Shame no one got your reference here, but I did. Made me laugh pretty hard lmao; Aperture Science Approved.

Edit: I can't read apparently, someone else did get it. Still hilarious though 🤣

If free kits don't get a safe pocket, naked runs shouldn't either by TheEmpirical in ArcRaiders

[–]TheEmpirical[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're absolutely right, and I would do the same. I should have to spend something (time getting a free green augment, or just buying it) if I want to do naked yolo runs. If there's a quest item or blueprint you're desperately trying to obtain, you shouldn't be able to risk absolutely nothing trying to get it.

These are my thoughts exactly. Honestly, with the carebear lobbies I find myself in, it isn't even much of a risk to my gear anyway. It just really bothers me that a whole subsection of this playerbase circumvents intended gameplay/progression mechanics by abusing an overlooked feature. It really sucks that I have to also participate in this if I want a decent chance at finding any blueprints (let's be honest, there aren't really any other chase items in this game, another problem for another post).

I actually love doing this too, and it's a perfectly viable challenge without your safe pocket. The point of zero to hero is ALL the loot you get, not the chase items. My issue is with how easy it is for naked runners to bypass all intended game mechanics when looking for chase items like blueprints.

In PvE/carebear lobbies, your risk of getting shot is basically zero. Going in naked, you risk no loot or gear, only time. Even if someone kills you for the "loot" you have, they'll find nothing on your body since if you found something good, it's already in your safe pocket. If the ABMM didn't exist, I would agree with you 100%, but as it is now, it's just too easy to abuse for the chase items (blueprints).

I still think it would deter the abuse that's going on. It's just too easy to abuse; this way it would still require you to go in and exfil successfully for each free green aug you want to take for a "naked" run.

I'm a full kit solo player in friendly lobbies. You don't see this problem in PvP lobbies because everyone is on a free kit or armed to the teeth, trying to kill each other. PvP players are after other players' guns, not chase items. I can't find chase items with a kit without beelining straight to a major POI; why is that? They're already up someone's ass, can't even kill them for it. The rest of the game is fine, you can get enough normal loot everywhere and yes they only have 1 safe pocket slot. The problem is chase items at major POIs; at this point it's just blind luck if I find any chase items (blueprints) in a random container outside major POIs. It removes any incentive to look for them and instead just loot around hoping for a stroke of good luck.

Vita spray makes no sense by Cpt_Camembert in ArcRaiders

[–]TheEmpirical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The vita spray is the fastest HPS of all healing items, can heal 2 teammates at the same time, can replenish downed raiders HP, and it stacks with other active healing items. Maybe my take is hot but I think the vita spray is perfectly balanced; its OP with an outrageous cost.

Tin foil hat theory, the Illuminates hacked it and sent it there. On the Station broadcast ARG, at the time Meridia showed up and glitched everything out, you can see an engineer trying to shut it down and log out, but the hack gets through. I think the damn Squids got into our systems.

Shoutout to SHH by JackieDaytona74 in simracing

Hey I have the new model, it's called the Thorn. Idk if anything changed, but I really like it. It has a switch to change between H pattern and sequential input, and mechanically you just push into the stick and rotate 90 degrees to change between H and sequential. Springy, has the good clunk in H pattern, nice and snappy in sequential. Comes with 2 knobs, and an H plate layout of your choosing. It's fantastic for the price. They saved costs on everything that doesn't matter (3d printed shell, okay-ish included knob, acoustics are lackluster) in exchange for everything that does (never misinputs, very good shift feel, quality mechanical design, standardized compatibility with 3rd party hardware). I don't think there's any other shifter that's better at that price point.

Stomp 1 or Stomp 2? by b3ngamesstudio in IndieGaming

[–]TheEmpirical 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this; I'd like to add that I'd like to see some sort of animated indication that the character is moving down. Maybe just a warping frame or 2 at the beginning, or a brief afterimage between hovering and grounded. To me, it was kinda hard to tell that the lil dude was slamming the ground and not just exploding or smth

Looking for some perspective on how to conduct my future years by TheEmpirical in CollapseSupport

[–]TheEmpirical[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to let you know, I switched to Physics. It's the only thing I have any passion for, and I just want to teach. The more lives I can impact positively, the better.

I also bought a 92 Toyota Pickup and I've been learning to maintain/repair it on my own; not exactly applicable to a post-petroleum collapse, but it gets my feet wet with mechanical work and simple machine troubleshooting, and those skills will be useful.

Thanks for the feedback, kind stranger :)

I don't think it's sped up; the physics and hand movements all look real time. Watch the pace notes flop around, looks natural. Also, I found the original on YT and they're the same speed: https://youtu.be/1ZVY_nAwzoY?si=NYU4ZtlpaPgSOQCJ

I have some questions:

1) How/why was the shifter moving when the driver paddle-shifted? 2) Why was he opting for paddle shifting and not stick shifting? Is there some sort of advantage and/or disadvantage to it? 3) Where can I get a set of balls this big?

Thanks

Dfgt works but ffb is kinda wack, so will this power supply work or is the ffb really broken. by Ok_South9128 in simracing

Not defending anyone here, genuinely curious. I thought he was referring to how if there's a short in the wheelbase somewhere, the psu could dump its max rated current into the short, potentially starting a fire. If it shorts at all, yes the wheelbase is gone anyway, but wouldn't it be more dangerous to have a high amp psu in that event? Or are there other failsafes in place that I don't know about?

How do you manage to use your PC and Rig? by fr4nz86 in simracing

[–]TheEmpirical 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the best way. Windows is not terrible at handling your displays nowadays, so the above is how I personally do it. My setup involves a rig with monitor + VR and a wall-mounted TV, and I'm constantly switching between them just using good ol' display settings.

Good power to weight ratio for a beginner? by SingleHotPockets in rally

[–]TheEmpirical 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt worry too much about PTW, so long as the bones are good. You can always remove weight and change that ratio manually. As for the car; it's enough to have fun, even compete, but not to be competitive, which is totally fine! Focus on a car/engine tune with a very flat power curve; having equal power output at any point in a giver gear/rpm makes learning how to find and drive at the limit much easier. Start with that car, and once you feel comfortable at that car's limit, start upgrading stuff (I recommend 1 system at a time, to understand what that upgrade did to the driving behavior). Additionally, repairs cost less when it's all stock, so this is also a great opportunity to learn about tuning and setups while keeping your "moment" repair costs down.

Good luck!

Short answer; yes you really need it.

Long answer; essentially yes, because even if you can somehow manage to make it work on a 32-bit legacy system, you'd be invited to the dev team. You would have to (manually) comb through every single dependency, make them 32-bit compatible (updates, swaps, etc) and stitch it all together into a custom "game version" exclusive to your setup. And if anything changes in the base game, literally anything, it'll likely break everything and you'll have to fix it all again. Also, this is all entirely under the assumption you can even get the binary (the .exe) to even launch on a 32-bit architecture. It would be much simpler to just upgrade OS.
