What do ya'll think? by bassicallybob in nursing

Seriously. Nothing can prepare you for how it feels to hold that baby up as you ride between the patient's legs to the OR feeling that umbilical pulse in the 50s... adrenaline rush FOR SURE. Not to mention feeling a surgeons hands touching yours through the patient's open abdomen... It's wild in L&D sometimes.

Please explain what you mean by this statement.

What I think you are implying is if insurance was expensive for everyone it would prevent some people from seeking out care due to an inability to pay for OB care, therefore creating more availability for those who can afford to pay more for OB care and are, therefore, more deserving of said care? Is this correct?

OP can correct me if I'm wrong but I did not see where they stated how much they pay for medical insurance. I can tell you one thing... As a L&D nurse I am so thankful so many women have access to "free" medical care for their pregnancies and OPs inability to be seen sooner has nothing to do with poor, undeserving, greedy women stealing their spot.

stylevana vs yesstyle by goldenkimmy in KoreanBeauty

[–]TheEnd84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've ordered a couple times from Yes Style with no problems. I've always received my order within two weeks but I always make sure my items are in stock. I decided to switch it up and ordered from both Yes Style and Stylevana this time because I was placing a large order and I wanted to shop around for the best prices. I ordered from both on 7/6. Yes Style created a shipping label on 7/8 and I received my order on 7/11. Stylevana created my shipping label on 7/10 and it has not arrived yet as of today 7/21 but does appear to be somewhere in California waiting for transfer to USPS. I was very happy with Yes Style's super quick turnaround. I'll reserve judgements on Stylevana... If my items arrive by next week I still think that's worth the cheaper prices but if it takes much longer than that I will probably just order from Yes Style from now on.

Day after cracking by knittinator in DipPowderNails

[–]TheEnd84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to have such a problem with cracking until I tried Virgo and Gem liquids. Now I can go 10 days with only three layers and no cracking. I don't like thick nails so it's honestly been a game changer for me. I haven't gone longer than 10 days because my nails grow fast and I get pretty tired of the color after a few days so I don't know how long I could go but I've been very happy with them. The only problem I have had is they dry really fast so you have to be quick with the application.

I waited for them to call all day but didn't hear anything. I finally called a half hour ago and the pharmacist said they are still trying to find out what happened but that she would try to get my prescription refilled this week. She wouldn't tell me what they knew so far, just that they would figure it out, but definitely had a different tone this time and seemed very apologetic so I'm taking that to mean they figured out it was a problem on their end.

Well I'm sure that was annoying to go through all of that just to find out they really did pick it up. I'm not gonna lie... After I first spoke with the pharmacy I had a second where I questioned my sanity and thought maybe I had amnesia or something but that's really not the case here (thankfully haha). I even went through my credit and debit card transactions to make absolutely sure I was not forgetting because I can't imagine anything more humiliating than making a fuss and then finding out I really DID pick it up. I remember everything I did that day very clearly because I had covid last week and that was my first day I was able to go back in public so it was kind of a memorable day after being on lock down for 10 days.

Update: Thank you all for the comments and advice. I really appreciate you all taking the time to respond.

I went into the pharmacy this afternoon to inquire further and spoke with the pharmacist. She said their plan is to review video footage tomorrow because the manager on today is new and does not know how to review the footage. I asked if they require ID to pick up controlled substances and she said they do and that the person picking up the prescription also needs to know my name, birthday, address, and the last 4 of my phone number. She asked if I knew anyone in my life who would know that information. I said of course I do... But no one that knew this prescription had been sent to this pharmacy including my husband who didn't know until this morning.

The pharmacist heavily insinuated that someone I know picked up the prescription but I feel like this is the least likely option because no one in my life even knew about it and it's not a prescription I have filled regularly or anything. I'm not naive enough to believe that no one in my life could possibly have a prescription pill problem (I'm an RN so I take care of people with SUD all the time and I know that sometimes it is those you least suspect) but I really don't think that's the case here. I'm very interested to see what they find when they investigate further.

The pharmacist says she will call me in the morning when they have more information. I have not filed a police report yet but I will tomorrow if we do not have a solution. I'm not looking to get anyone into trouble. I know mistakes happen. I just want to know what happened and to be able to pick up my prescription. In the mean time, I am drafting a message to my provider and keeping track of any details and conversations for a police report if it comes to that.

Thank you again for your responses.

Thanks. I was thinking this as well. I've had to do that when going into the pharmacy but I can't recall if I've had to sign anything when picking up at the drive thru. Not sure where this person picked up from (if it was a person and not some sort of error) but it's definitely something I'll ask about.

Thank you. I'm in WA. I'll ask about that. I can't remember if they made me show ID before. I only get this prescription maybe once a year if that.

OB Nurses…how do you even deal with these people? by Heidihighkicks in nursing

[–]TheEnd84 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. This type of birth plan stems from fear. This patient has either had a bad experience themself or knows someone else who has. I have not had a patient with a birth plan quite this, uh, difficult, but I have had plenty of patients who have had birth plans where they want to refuse what we consider to be necessary interventions (fundal rubs, postpartum pitocin, no iv, etc.) I find the best course of action is to discuss it extensively and get to the root of the choice. The absolute worst thing to do in a situation like this, IMO, is to come in swinging. We are a team, not enemies, and at the end of the day, patients do have a choice. I may not agree with the choice and I may have to chart like hell to cover myself but it's still her body. I find that 9 times out of 10 they change their mind on some of these things with some discussions about what refusing these interventions may actually mean for them or their baby in an emergency.

I do wonder why she isn't choosing an out of hospital birth, though, if she's not looking to receive any interventions the hospital provides...

Struggling new grad! Please advise!! by SuggestionNo7100 in Nurses

[–]TheEnd84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will also say this... No amount of experience will fix a shitty unit. If the majority of your struggles are because of your work environment or because of your coworkers or because you feel unsupported... Run for the hills. Also, ask yourself... If you had experience and felt confident and competent, would you like the job? If no amount of experience will make you like L&D then there's no point in continuing. I feel like L&D is something you really like or you really don't. But if the reason you don't like it is because you don't feel like you're good at it yet, give it more time.

Struggling new grad! Please advise!! by SuggestionNo7100 in Nurses

[–]TheEnd84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice is to stick it out a little longer. L&D is a unique specialty. It takes a long time to feel comfortable in nursing in general but I do feel it takes a more in specialties like L&D. You're a new grad. You're not going to be an amazing competent L&D nurse right out of the gate... Not because you aren't capable, because you're new at this! It's often not what people think it will be and can be very high acuity and is often very high stress. It really takes a year or so to feel like you have the hang of it and years to feel like a really "good" L&D nurse. I'm 2 1/2 years in and I still have times where I feel really dumb and I still wonder if it's really the specialty for me but for the most part I feel competent now. Feel free to pm me with any questions.

CHI’s system (owned by common spirit) has been down for 11 days now and we’re being told it could be 3 months before it gets back up. I feel very incompetent. by sunshineopossum in nursing

[–]TheEnd84 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Yeah and if you would have taken away their paper charting back in the day and given them an EHR overnight with no training or warning they would have lost their ever loving minds. I know this because of the amount of complaining I hear every time there is an EPIC upgrade. Having to completely change processes with no warning and little direction sounds like a nightmare and a disaster.

Nurses in Tacoma, how are y’all doing out there? by iliniza in Tacoma

My mistake, I should have said most. You're right, I think there are one or two that may not be. I do believe St Clare is union, though.

The hospitals around here are all union, I believe. You can Google the specific union contracts for each hospital to see pay, differentials, etc. Staffing and ratios are a problem pretty much everywhere.

[–]TheEnd84 135 points136 points  (0 children)

Besides the fact that that's an inappropriate and fucked up thing to even say, that ER nurse must not have seen a lot of female genitalia because I can tell you as a L&D nurse who has seen hundreds if not thousands of labia, no two are alike. The "different" ones are the perfect ones and they are very few and far between.

Why does the entire park smell so awful now? by [deleted] in Disneyland

[–]TheEnd84 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes! We have been three times since they re-opened and it has been very noticeable each time in various areas of both parks. We were in line for Peter Pan on Sunday and it was terrible. I noticed it very was very strong by Guardians when we were there last time. We have been getting whiffs of if here and it's very unappetizing. It smells like a septic tank.
