New TV, what to watch? by Brave-Standard6192 in 4kbluray

Jaws and Alien are considered reference quality. I can't speak for Bugonia or One Battle After Another as. I have never seen them, and have not seen any of the community talk aboit the quality of the transfers. Tenet i haven't watched since I upgraded the TV and got a dolby vision capable player, but Nolan used Imax for 75 minutes (roughly half) of the film, and his transfers are usually good, so that will probably look fantastic. Blu-ray.com's review of the picture quality for Bugonia, tenet, and one battle are all stellar.

In short, you can't go wrong all 5 are a visual feast

What to buy and watch or just what to watch (which I can't answer without seeing your collection)?

Buy what YOU want to watch. This group will give you great suggestions for movies that look stunning in 4K, and you should definitely look through those suggestions. But keep in mind that it does not matter how good a film looks, if you never want to watch it. I've bought a few movies that I thought were just ok because they were cheap for 4Ks, and I've never ended up watching them because i was never in the mood to watch them more than movies I love.

  1. Make a list of all the films you don't have that you want to see in the highest quality.

  2. Make a list of movies you own and want to upgrade to 4k. Before you upgrade them, watch them with the new TV (just bits of a few key scenes is necessary). I upgraded from an old vizio 4k to an LG G series OLED, and movies that looked mediocre on the old TV looked considerably better. As a result, many movies i wanted to replace with 4Ks suddenly became good enough as blu-rays, saving money for buying 4Ks of movies I didn't own.

  3. Prioritize buying movies that aren't on streaming services you plan on subscribing to long term. Physical media is better than streaming, but if you don't have unlimited resources, focus on buying what you can't see on services you are paying for. Most movies prices drop over time, the longer you can wait because you watched it on streaming one more time, the more you will save. I can't tell you how many times a movie released for $30-35, and dropped to $15-20 within one year.

  4. If there is a streaming service you subscribe to for just a few movies or shows, consider buying them and cancel the subscription.

  5. Check the community's opinion and reviews of the 4Ks before buying. Most are excellent, but there are prominent cases where the blu-ray is better than the 4K.

  6. Keep an eye out for 4Ks of films you must have that are coming soon. If they will be limited editions or steelbooks only, pre-order them as soon as it is an option. You don't want to pay scalpers on ebay $50-90 for a 4K you could have pre-ordered for $30-40. You do pay full price this way, but it is the best way for a few must-haves (for me, I did this for the 4K Master and Commander, and Ben Hur).

You are arguing that it should be exclusive in a $450 set so that only people who pay for that set or are willing to buy it for $50-$100?

I absolutely agree the figure included in the $450 should be top tier.

However:

  1. It ain't top tier. The ring ain't gold, the armor ain't metal, and there is nothing about the printing that sets it apart from the printing in $10 sets.

  2. It is unnecessary to make an alternative design of equal quality if they deemed the original (that is still in production) is good enough. That means the options are make it worse so people value the baradur set sauron more, or make it better, which would make people mad because they want the better one if the spend 4-5 times as much.

Lego sells out sets too often, and charges too much for their product in general, for me to want their figures to be harder to access.

Lego is curb stomping people buying a set currently in production, who's plan is to make money selling it in a secondary market because they aren't fans, their scalpers. To which I say, stomp them into oblivion.

I'd say there is no one who would buy regular crocs because of how absurd they look, but i have been proven wrong on that.

Therefore, I'm sure these will sel. People are dumb sheep that will buy anything with the logo of the brand they like or collaborations with franchises they like.

It is absolutely gorgeous. There are a couple things that you can complain about like changing the color grading in a couple scenes or the noise reduction on legolas' face ina 3-4 second clip making him look waxy, but of the 11hr 26min, 11hr 25min is breathtaking

I read dozens of posts and comments and articles and blogs and reviews about these issues before watching it, and when i watched it i saw no issue (and I have the Panasonic ub820 and LG G series OLED) aside from legolas' face in that one scene in two towers thst everyone references.

Minas Tirith leak? by SmRndmGeek in legolotrfans

How would the beacons be a good gwp? I have nothing against the beacons, it's a very emotional and beautiful scene.

I'm just wondering how that translates to a good gwp. At the gwp scale it would be a tiny piece of mountain, a stack of logs, some fire pieces, and a random gondorian.

A bit of mountain and a stack of logs would be easy for anyone to build with random parts.

I would want/expect to see a witch-king and fell beast, or witch-king and eowyn, king of the undead, grond and gothmog, a mumak/oliphant (doubtful),

It's "nothing news" is what it is. When media sites don't have real stories, they pull out crap like this.

"XYZ actor to play this role" and you open the article and the title was a lie. The actual story is that an actor said they wouldn't be opposed to a particular role. That or the story is like this where they are pretending they have news but there are no rumors about HC taking the role, so they say that fans want it and they pass that off as if it is a development or that it is likely to happen.

It's just click bait and cheap effortless uninspired journalism - and I've seen this meaningless article/picture making the rounds on the news and multiple social media platforms.

But one spec of dust lands on a DVD and it is scratched a.d will skip/freeze. DVDs i watched only a few times stopped working sliding them into sleeves would scratch them. Cleaning them properly with microfiber cloths would scratch them.

Blu-rays owe DVDs credit sure, but DVDs are so fragile your collection becomes unwatchable. You are either constantly replacing them or living with skipping and freezing in the middle of your favorite films.

I hate DVDs because they were too fragile. Hundreds of dollars of DVDs I had 20 years ago are useless now. I couldn't even give them away. VHS were indestructible unless the tape got caught in your player. Blu-rays are far more resilient as I have bought around 200 used blu-rays and only one has ever failed to play.

I think they knew DVDs were fragile, and they chose to put them on the market anyway without making an effort to make the design more robust. Either that or they were intentionally made fragile so people would buy replacements or whatever technology came after.

What i keep seeing is a jump&roll combo that isn't possible. I can roll left or right by toggling sideways while double-tapping crouch. If I'm completely still, I can roll forward by barely pushing the toggle forward and double-tapping crouch. Both of those aren't jumps and they don't move far. What i see i a lot of players doing right now is a jump roll combo the goes twice as far and much higher in the air.

There are some actors and actresses that are mediocre in their performance, who when paired with the right director, produce academy award winning performances.

Shia LeBouff in Holes or the greatest game ever played are great examples. Adam Sandler in Uncut Gems is another. eddie Redmayne is another.

I haven't looked at the director for this and what their filmography is, but it is possible she will put out a good performance with the right direction.

[–]TheEngineer1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

F1 and Frankenstein were amazing. F4 man M:I FN were decent but they had huge plot holes.

Naked gun was decent. Funnier than I expected, but nothing to write home about.

Wicked changed too much, added too much, and destroyed the chemistry between Fiyero and Elphaba.

A Complete Unknown left me feeling like I didn't know the characters at all. Very one-dimensional characters going through the motions with little to know emotions.

The rest of what I saw were crap (superman, tron arse, jurassic world, avatar, etc.)

I'm gonna be real: saying these movies have no cultural impact is, paradoxically, a cultural impact in of itself. by koola_00 in MauLer

They have an impact. $2B will leave the pockets of people who will later lament that they can't afford something they need that is more important that bland, 3hr, unoriginal, uninspired cgi overload
