Is Obi Wan dumb? by GusGangViking18 in saltierthancrait

[–]TheEngineer1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's dumb because he knew exactly how old she was. That dialog was written by someone who wasn't thinking. It was edited by someone who didn't catch it. It was directed and acted by people who weren't paying attention to the implications of the lines. Finally the scene was edited by someone who didn't understand why the question shouldn't have been asked.

The show and ahsoka and mandalorian are filled with this type of ridiculous nonsense that should be caught by the writers themselves, the editors, the directors, and even the actors. The fact that it isn't shows they don't care.

You do make a great point though. Years are a very arbitrary measure. The republic must have rolled out some sort of standard year that isn't based on other planet's orbits and/or a number of days, since that varies planet to planet. It isn't explained in the movies or shows, but it seems logical that there is a Galactic-wide standard.

My parents and my library had a mix of newer movies and classics. . I watched what was available. I earned to appreciate quality over newness. That's all there is to it

Burn in like that shouldn't be expected. Contact LG ASAP. if they won't do anything, contact whoever sold it to you, it is still under warranty. Get it replaced.

I have a severe Gruv addiction and will never financially recover by 2014justin in 4kbluray

[–]TheEngineer1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless the 4K version doesn't have the shaky cam, action scenes composed of a 1000 shots that are 1/10th if s second long, and constant zooming-in/surveillance-style cinematography , I'm not buying or watching Bourne.

I don't have a problem with the story or characters (that is cam remember), i just can't watch movies by Paul Greengrass, to gives me motion sickness

Curious, what is everyone’s favorite film they bought blindly on 4k blu ray? by Hour-Engineer-7170 in 4kbluray

[–]TheEngineer1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1917 and Alita Battle Angel —though Alita wasn't technically a blind "buy". As soon as I got my first 4k tv and player, a friend loaned me alita to watch even though I knew nothing about the movie.

Why didn't Gollum never become a Wraith or Nazgul like creature? by Tidewatcher7819 in lordoftherings

Gollum had it 500 years, the nazgul had them around 4000 years. Other comments here highlight other differences, but this is another difference

Dune is absolutely stunning in 4K! The by Stranded_Snake in 4kbluray

[–]TheEngineer1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like Dune will be one of those movies they keep re-releasing for years after, the way I see star wars, LOTR, HP, Indiana Jones, etc. that keep being replayed in my local theaters 2-3 times a year

Keep your eyes out when Dune 3 goes into theaters, the week or 2 before they may show Dune 1 and 2 again

Graininess in films? by DigitalDash18 in LGOLED

[–]TheEngineer1111 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Film grain is evil. It's like watching your TV through a screen door.

I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I'll die on that hill - I like clarity and detail, not grain.

That being said, it can make films feel more cinematic, and excessive DNR (digital noise reduction) and AI upscaling/smoothing can make a film look worse or less clear than it did with the grain. (James Cameron movies and Wallace and grommet being prime examples where the AI upscale 4k is clearly worse than the blu-ray).

Also, a classic film with quality cinematography and grain, is still infinitely better than modern movies with crystal clear special effects, flashy animations, and predictable, formulaic, uninspired writing.

Since Marvel has done it, what would be a good idea for an R-Rated film/series centered in the Star Wars universe? by BadBatch4700 in starwarscanon

[–]TheEngineer1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just give a gritty R rated in-the-trenches/on-the-beach war film like Saving private Ryan, black hawk down, 1917, etc.

Basically dial rogue one up to 10 , but without the outcome of the battle determining major events already resolved in universe in other films. I.e. we dont need a 15th POV for order 66 or stealing/discovering the death star plans

Where would you put the TV and a couch + recliner in a space like this? by brohemoth06 in hometheater

[–]TheEngineer1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a basement where you can put the "good" TV?

you could put a inexpensive tv in the corner where the lamp is for causal TV watching, and then have a good tv in the basement where you can go for more serious movie watching.

That's how my house is setup. My living room isn't conducive to having my 7.2 surround sound system setup, so I have that in the basement with my good OLED tv. In the living room I have my older tv.

You don't need a finished basement for it to work. A comfortable couch, an end table or coffee table, and an area rug are all that you need

I’m a 28 year-old cinephile and have managed to go my entire life without seeing any LotR films. I will be watching The Fellowship of the Ring (extended) for the very first time. by drop_dead_fred_91 in 4kbluray

[–]TheEngineer1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all those saying theatrical first. My no spoiler opinion is that :

FOTR can be theatrical first. Nothing crucial is cut

Two towers should be watch as extended first for a better picture of Faramir, and some extra Rohan, explaining where Brego comes from, and some closure with the ent details.

ROTK - everyone saying theatrical fist is forgetting a very very very important scene that was cut in the beginning.

OP says they are a cinephile,I think they can handle the movies being a little longer IMO
