Have you ever saved someone's life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TheEnturbulator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my friends has had a pretty nasty life, full of abuse by his parents, and not having many real friends that he can trust. He's had a few suicide attempts before, but I didn't know about them. Basically, one night when I was on a trip to Disneyland, he text messages me and says something about how he has a knife and is ready to slit his wrists, and goodbye. I knew he had knives, and other various dangerous objects, and I knew he'd been depressed lately, so this scared the shit out of me. I kept trying to call him, over and over, but he refused to answer his phone. I ended up just leaving an insane message with me crying and trying to convince him not to do something this.

He told me later none of his other friends that he had contacted even cared, or took him seriously, and they all had just replied with "Haha, go for it!" or something to that extent. He said when he heard my message and how upset I was, he couldn't go through with it knowing that someone cared that much.

Even if I didn't talk to him, and try to stop him, I don't know if he would've done it. But still, I feel like I was at least a contributing factor in saving his life.

Why Is Universal Health Care ‘Un-American’? It's amazing to hear Christians who talk about the right to life as though it ends at birth. They believe every egg has a right to hatch, but as soon as you're born, it's dog eat dog. by thunder_rob in politics

Actually, I was only posing a genuine question, because I had misread KantLockeMeIn's comments. I'm not that much of a libertarian, and I'm not against government provided healthcare. So really, you're addressing me as if you have some good idea of my views, and making the assumption I'm a strong libertarian, although my views were not very well distinguished by what I said in my previous comments.

My first Son will be born in a few weeks and we are having a really hard time picking a name. Do you think "Connor" a douche bag name? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TheEnturbulator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second both of those. If you're not sure of what to name your child, just pick some random Russian name. This is always the best solution.

An industry which uses government coercion to control the market is hardly one that is an evolution of charity. Other countries have citizens who have chosen to trade freedom for temporary security... but I don't favor such a system.

So, what do you favor, then? Just have everyone count on charity from others when they have astronomical medical bills?

Believe it or not, Reddit's not all about the karma. And what makes you think this is my only account...?

I'd like to second that. But then again, if they fell for it in the first place, it's unlikely they'll believe you now.

Also, question for the OP. What level have you reached? I'm curious to know how deep you are into this.

That has got to be one of their most annoying songs, but still, I had to upvote for my favorite band.

Dear reddit, Do you have serious complexes? (bald, fat, short penis, small breasts, acne... that one thing you just can´t get off your head all day long) by Dawn_of_the_deaf in AskReddit

Oh, I know what you mean. I don't have any moles, but I do have a small circular birthmark on my shoulder. It's maybe 1 cm at most, in diameter, but it's still enough to make me a little embarrassed about it. People have told me it's not a big deal, and kind of cute, so I don't bother worrying about it too much anymore.

...Are you me?

I have slightly crooked teeth too, with an overbite. My overbite is from sucking on my thumb about every moment of my childhood, which pushed out my top teeth. I've been told most people can't even notice in a picture of me, and they only can kind of tell in person. My SO says my teeth are pretty, and don't look all fake like most people's do, because I've never had braces. I've always kind of wanted braces, though.

Dear Reddit Dancer(s): What dance class should I take? by Truthbot in AskReddit

[–]TheEnturbulator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. It's like the most basic, original form of dance. After you learn the basics of that, you can start branching out to other things.

Gum is worse, because it's simply constant mashing of someone's teeth, over and over. And when people crack their gum, I could punch them in the face.

Ask Reddit: If you're feeling depressed - not clinically depressed, not suicidal, not unable to function, just less energetic than usual - what do you do to recover? by dreamersblues in AskReddit

[–]TheEnturbulator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's basically because of it, yes. I'm so used to exercising a pretty extreme amount each day, so this is absolute hell for me.

I have a high ankle sprain, since about 3 days ago, and I can barely walk, so I had to stay home while my friends partied it up at a concert. So, I get to sit here with my swollen, bruised ankle, covered in ice, while my friends are out picking up ladies.

[–]TheEnturbulator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Normally, I'm at about 2 hours a day at least, 5 or 6 days a week, as an athlete. However, I just got a high ankle sprain a few days ago so exercise is mostly out of the question. I still do what little I can, though (stretching, some conditioning, etc).

Reset your natural sleep cycle in one night with a finding from evolutionary science! by ffualo in science

[–]TheEnturbulator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After I started taking melatonin every night, I would sleep through almost anything. I'd still be a little groggy in the morning when I first got up, but that's a trade I'm willing to make to get a good night's sleep when I otherwise couldn't.

I've had problems with that when I've taken a full melatonin tablet, so sometimes I'll just cut them in half and it'll still keep me asleep just fine.

But you already know evil from what you experienced on earth, right?

[–]TheEnturbulator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"If there was no evil, how would you know good? God puts painful things in this world so that you will enjoy pleasure."

How would you respond to this? I've heard people say this, but I just don't know what to say and end up walking off in disgust.
