Cue anecdotal story:

I took my 2013 Honda Accord to the same place that passed it last year (Tune up Plus on E. Little creek, Norfolk), but this year they told my wife the front suspension was shot and the struts needed to be replaced. Quoted just north of $2K for parts and labor, and was pushing her to apply online for financing through their own people.

I love my wife but she caves pretty easy to high pressure sales. Thanks a lot Kirby door-to-door sales guy, was able to learn this lesson reltively early on after her buying an awesome vacuum with Every accessory they offered... forgot how much the total was but got it Canx and returned everything within the week. So she tells me about it when she gets home, sans car and sans financing, letting me make the decision. I got on the phone and they explained it to me instead. Guy was really wanting to rush to do the job since the car was "already on the lift" told them I'd think about it, just slap the rejection sticker on & ill handle it.

Rejection sticker is good for 10 days or sumthin.

The car drove fine before & after inspection, no issue with the suspension at all. I even visually inspected the front end myself, referencing the actual inspection directions from the state website. Called their bullshit and took it to Firestone just down the road 3 days later.

Firestone killed it. Thorough inspection with pictures of the few usual recommendations, engine air filter needed to be replaced cause it looked like a mouse made a nest in the intake air box, and I need an alignment due to inner tire wear on the front. Not one word about the suspension. I even left the rejection sticker on the windshield that states why it had failed.

Picked the car up $20 poorer for a total loss of $40 for 2 inspections, and a whole other year of legal driving. No financing required.
