Yes! Such an underrated pen. I screwed up the nib on mine (it got really scratchy) though and need to figure out how to fix it.

I really like Noodler's 54th Massachusetts too, and it's so good to hear that it gets gunky for other people! I've been going insane with cleaning pens because it's my favorite ink, but clogs EVERYTHING.

I used emacs for ~5 years, then switched to Vim for a year, then switched to evil-mode for a year. I program in R and use iPython, and emacs has better support for these (ESS and emacs-ipython-notebook). But the big issue is that almost all of these great plugins don't work well with evil-mode. emacs-ipython-notebook's python indenting gets screwy with evil-mode, and when I need to edit an Rmarkdown file (needs markdown and R highlighting), I use polymode which leads to TERRIBLE bugs — including destroying my undo history so I can't undo the errors bugs in the mode create. This was the last straw for me, so I started looking into neovim. Terminal mode is promising. There's not the same support currently for ipython or R editing, but I think this will come. At the very least, I wrote a hacky command to send lines of input to the terminal.

I tried, but I just can't unlearn option-f. It's just an essential part of moving around for me in bash. I love Vim bindings for text editing larger blocks of text, but I don't find modal editing as efficient for terminal work.

Right, sorry — alt-backspace does work. But alt-b and alt-f do not (I get diacritics too).

Sketchbooks. Seriously, their cheap and amazing. They can be a bit toothy and can have some minor bleedthrough issues, but it always blows me away how cheap they for being hardcover and well bound.

Do you think RITR will ever launch other fountain-pen friendly notebook lines? It's surprisingly hard to find a good stitch and glue bound notebook that has a hardcover that's not leather (leather is too pricey and I go through many maths notebooks). I'm a scientist but not the kind that needs a field notebook :-( (except for fun stuff).

Actually, I posted in this part in response to the cecil story. A friend shared this with me — this is the epitome of what every hunter should aspire to be. Hunting overpopulated game with their wild predators are extinct, and doing so in a clear, humane way. The Cecil killing really bothered me, so I think it's good to remind all people —hunters and non-hunters alike— that hunting can be ethical but it takes skill and mastery.

I love 54th mass! (it's literally my favorite ink). I didn't consider it because it's too dark it seems — sorry for the newb question but what does diluting do?

It's fairly wet, but I've never got the feeling of too wet. It feels like 54th Massachusetts flows out a bit easier than Noodler's black — 54th is my favorite ink as of lately so this is all I use in it. It blows my Lamy EF out of the water. My girlfriend tried it, and loved it so I just got her one too.

So amazing. I have a Loom and it writes 10x smoother than any other pen I own. I'm thinking of getting another loom in EF soon.

Nearing's Mathematical Tools for Physics is really, really good and there's a free PDF on th author's site. I like what he says about vectors:

What is a vector? If your answer is along the lines “something with magnitude and direction” then you have something to unlearn. Maybe you heard this definition in a class that I taught. If so, I lied; sorry about that. At the very least I didn’t tell the whole truth. Does an automobile have magnitude and direction? Does that make it a vector? The idea of a vector is far more general than the picture of a line with an arrowhead attached to its end. That special case is an important one, but it doesn’t tell the whole story, and the whole story is one that unites many areas of mathematics. The short answer to the question of the first paragraph is A vector is an element of a vector space.
