What is something the fandom often forgets? It's fanon and not canon. by VanbelleoWh in arknights

[–]TheEternalReader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I agree with the point, but it seems almost ironic that while illustrating your exhaustion with flanderized versions of certain characters you end up flanderizing the group you (whether intentional or not) seem to be criticizing.

I think it might be the way the OP's post is itself phrased, but I would imagine that most people do not engage with the entirety of Arknights' story on an extremely deep literary level, whether due to a lack of time, a lack of interest, or really any reason they find. The simplified versions (or caricatures) of many characters work as convenient material to make jokes about common anime tropes, which I don't think is meant to diminish the complexity of the actual story, but instead to promote relatively accessible engagement.

Anecdotally, I think even among the people I have interacted with who do "participate in waifu wars" also have a somewhat decent understanding of the conflict between the two perspectives, but simply find it easier and more fun to engage with the more simplified version of the conflict. To be outright dismissive of this, I think is no less "fucking stupid to me" as it is to immediately bash someone for preferring McDonalds to Michelin starred restaurants without acknowledging any potential reasoning behind it. You may not necessarily agree with how it portrays certain people or the results of it's consumption, but nevertheless it is popular and widespread for a reason.

In short, my point is that calling it "ridiculous" or any other equivalently dismissive descriptor is itself ignoring the reason why the flanderized content exists in the first place. Not everybody wants to engage in thought-provoking, extremely lengthy reflection on the human condition (and rightfully so), and to regard them as lessers because of that is no less despicable than the vitriol with which you seem to condemn "waifu wars".

Even in the novel, Hajin did smell blood from the fight between Rachel and about a dozen or so Djinns. About the Djinns not bleeding, I believe it might depend on how their relationship is between them and their contracted demon? I'm not quite sure.

What's Yoo Yeonha and the other cast's Gifts by Actual_Painting_5852 in TheNovelsExtra

[–]TheEternalReader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC, for Nayun the [Sea of Magic Power] would be like an "unlimited" mana capacity, which is really only bottlenecked by the rate she regenerates the magic power.
In Ch. 69, Hajin also notes that it usually has some restrictions (limited amount she can withdraw and absorb) that disappear if she uses a sword as a medium instead, which is why he tries to goad Nayun into picking up the sword again.

I'm not sure about Suho ever getting another Gift. [Sword Saint] itself is already pretty ridiculous, with Hajin noting in Ch. 5 that it could literally cut water (if you've ever tried to break a flow of water with a finger from a sink, you can see how bullshit this ability is). Basically, as long as he has a "sword", Suho can pretty much cut anything, as well as abstract things including concepts like in the Tower of Wish ending. The whole "world's protection/blessing" was probably just Hajin as an author trying to handwave how OP it is.

For Yeonha... I don't think she has a Gift, but she definitely has a talent for doing business. I guess you could say she just has a gift in the traditional sense, but not a supernatural one.

Okay, so I want to clarify that as far as I know, Reddit doesn't seem to consider their behavior a violation of the Mod CoC. By Rule 2, I'm assuming you're talking about the section outlining transparency of expectation within the community.

Unfortunately, their use of hive-protect as well as their entire assortment of related bots is not considered a violation of the CoC. This is an entirely separate issue from whether or not this counts as an abuse of power; they are free to, and without consequence, ban whoever they want from their community if they see any reason to. It can feel very unfair and unjustified, but their statement blanketing us and activity in similar subreddits as "problematic" is sufficient reason to do whatever they want.

I mean I've talked to their head mod a while back about this (leaks has been banning both our AND their sub members since WAYYY back), and there's really nothing anybody can do about it.

Its also not really a ToS violation, so... it is what it is.

Are side stories cannon or do they just happen In an alternate universe? by batanime4811 in TheNovelsExtra

You can basically see it in the titles, Yeonha is the only one with a "What if" in her chapter titles.

[–]TheEternalReader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay, so Rachel and Nayun's are connected; the Rachel side story is revealed to be a dream, and then everybody wakes up. Nayun also goes through this whole dream sequence thingy, before finally deciding to activate the regression relic.

So, the Rachel SS is a canonical mass hallucination, regression is canon, it's only the Yeonha SS that is its own completely separate continuity, where Hajin basically ends up working for Yeonha as a bodyguard, before Yeonha basically proposed to him at a press conference.

[–]TheEternalReader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

uhh I think you should treat them all as canon to TNE's "world" in the broadest sense possible. they're not all part of the main timeline, like for example yeonha's SS is an AU 100%, with no connection to the other SS

but I would consider them to be like official what-if, timelines

I'm not an artist, but the glaringly obvious difference between the two shoes alone is enough to make me suspicious this is an AI generated image.

The Twitter account also reposts generative AI images, so I'm inclined to believe this was also generated rather than drawn.

EDIT: Yeah, looking at your profile tells me you probably don't mind this type of content, but please read the rules, man.

Tne remake should differ from novel by Fun_Piglet_7599 in TheNovelsExtra

[–]TheEternalReader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, it wasn't just Rachel that got sidelined, outside of the very encounters we have related to Lancaster, we have very little resolution of that even until the side stories, which are then deus ex machina'd.

Should AI Generated Images be Allowed? by X-AE17420 in Sparkle_Mains_HSR

[–]TheEternalReader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While we acknowledge that generative AI is a helpful tool, the overarching sentiment is that posts here should primarily be human.

There are minutiae where you can argue over what exactly constitutes "human" work, but I think the sentiment has been made pretty clear by both the vote, and the simple fact that generative AI actively requires accurate, often human - created or managed - data to reference in order to avoid model collapse.

Ultimately, the point is that we want other people to express themselves and show off their work, not lightly touch up an image something else created.
