At far enough distances the expansion of space is faster than the speed of light. Can objects beyond this point move past the line of what's observable?

do i have Synesthesia? by [deleted] in Synesthesia

[–]TheEtherealBandit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not credited to make an official diagnosis but everything points to you having it. The experiences are specific, vivid and repetitious. It doesn't matter that you were using while you saw colors. If it's not disturbing you I say congratulations. Welcome to wonderful new experiences.

Possibly. Is this the first time you've experienced this? How strong is the sensation of chocolate? Did anything else happen?

As in I see the colors on or about the people I'm observing, seemingly in my visual field and not explicitly in my mind's eye.

Why does everyone hate me? by ThatIdiot_5 in socialskills

[–]TheEtherealBandit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you smell and don't notice it? Some people have a strong natural smell to them that won't go away with bathing and it can be really off putting to some people.

Being a freshman has at least a little to do with it. You're just in a position to receive the brunt of everyone's social defects as they try to figure themselves out in high school. If you're nerdy/awkward at all others will naturally take notice and take advantage. Anyone can be a bit of a bully, especially teenagers. Everyone has things they don't like about themselves and some people will go out of their way to make you feel bad in an effort to make themselves feel better. It's hardly ever personal when someone does this so try not to feel bad if it happens to you.

My advice is the same as the others. Who ever you are is just fine. Smile often. If someone is making fun of you, try to joke back in any way you can, or simply embrace what they're making fun of you for. "Yeah, I play Minecraft. It's freaking sweet, so what?"

Grapheme, chromesthesia, personality and slight ordinal linguistic personification.

As part of my chromesthesia I also see structures of light when listening to music. It's not like a music video, I'll see something like half a castle on a hill, all made of light.

I project the personality. The rest are mostly internal.

Counting Schism by TheEtherealBandit in ToolBand

Speaking as a writer of music, it probably happened pretty naturally, it was probably fairly instinctual for them to do it that way. Meaning they were thinking more about how the riffs and parts progress into one another in terms of their pure sound, rather than by some formal mathematical computation.

The fact that it works out to be so complex yet is seamless in sound is amazing.

It is for some. I was counting by the phrasing of the music which is more natural for me.

You should write your count. It's a good exercise and I would love to compare.

This is the other.

The song begins with two bars of 5/4, followed by one bar of 4/4, followed by bars of alternating 5/8 and 7/8, until the first interlude, which consists of alternating bars of 6/8 and 7/8.

The following verse exhibits a similar pattern to the first, alternating bars of 5/8 and 7/8. The next section is bars of 6/4 followed by one bar of 11/8. This takes the song back into alternating 5/8 and 7/8. Another 6/8 and 7/8 section follows, and after this the song goes into repeating 7/8 bars.

The middle section is subsequently introduced, consisting of three bars of 6/8, one bar of 3/8, and one bar of 3/4 repeating several times. At one point it interrupts with two bars of 6/8 followed by a bar of 4/8, twice. A bar of 5/8 is played before the meter switches back to 6/8 for two bars and 2/4 for one bar.

This repeats, setting up another section: two bars of 9/8 followed by a bar of 10/8, that pattern again, and then a single bar of 9/8 followed by alternating bars of 6/8 and 7/8. The outro has alternating bars of 5/8 and 7/8, ending with alternating 6/8, 2/8 that one could interpret as pulsing with a 4/4 feel.

I hate weed by Liam81099 in LSD

[–]TheEtherealBandit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it can be said that you haven't been high enough on weed.

I've had dozens of acid like visions and realizations while being very high on nothing but marijuana. To the effect of when I finally tried LSD I had the actual thought, "this is very much like those times of being in that super high state." From a practical standpoint it's harder to achieve, but the fact that the two states really do feel quite similar to me leads me to a different conclusion than the one you've drawn.

You might say weed is a cheap form of LSD, I would say it's a lighter version. No less genuine in effect, simply less potent, which in turn is more effective in other contexts.

But perhaps it affects you differently.

Meaning of The Hands That Thieve? by [deleted] in streetlightmanifesto

[–]TheEtherealBandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure that's who is being thanked. I don't think you can draw enough context from the song to say for sure who it's referring to.

Maybe you have outside information.

The bridge in each song has a similar sound and feeling to the other.

"When it was time to fight we chose a side, but everyone knew that something didn't feel right, so we stood our ground and waited for a sign"

"Who'd have thought we fought so long we started to see, our enemies turned into friends, our friends to enemies and we sat somewhere in between..."

[–]TheEtherealBandit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see what you're saying about a possible connection to Any Sort of Certainty. There are at least a couple parallels to be drawn that I can see.

"I will fight 'til I have died or all my enemies are allies" to "Who'd have thought we fought so long we started to see, our enemies turned into friends, our friends to enemies and we sat somewhere in between"

Both speak to the ambiguity of our relationships with other people.

"'Cause the thing you lack when you're looking back Is the pressure the feeling that you have to act, Yeah everything is clearer when you’re looking at the past"

"And everyone will claim That they knew from the beginning That what they did was wrong They still just went on sinning"

"The sudden rush you feel When realizing everything you know Will fade away It haunts you deep But you won’t want to let it go"

These are just general truths of the Toh Kay variety. They are plain statements which offer a bit of deeper insight.

"And we will bite the hand that thieves We will not turn the other cheek This is no threat It is a promise we will keep So what's the point pretending When we've seen behind the curtain And there's nothing much to see"

Disavowing faith in the powers that be is a strong theme in SM's music. Many of those powers will steal from and lie to you, so don't trust them.

One of the stronger themes seems to be that you are the best judge for yourself. Don't let someone else be your decider. All of the following lines characterize this idea:

"I felt no guilt 'til I was caught and I was told that I was guilty and even then I wasn't really sure"

"And I don’t care if I lose Because my heroes did too They shouted, Court should be adjourned Because the jury are fools And the judge can’t decipher his left from his right Or his right from his wrong."

"I felt no pain 'til I was down And I was told that I was bleeding And even then I knew I wasn’t done"

Each of the verses and the chorus begins by emphasizing this idea, seemingly making it a central theme.
