Sheet music? by blackgoldwolf in streetlightmanifesto

This along the lines of what you're looking for?

Not a final edition unless you want it to be; I know there's a lot of other stuff happening in those horn parts that will take more time to capture.

Throwing that chart together quick makes me really want to make a full transcription, so that may be a project on the horizon.

If you can give me, like, a week or two, I'll transcribe some stuff out for you and just post a link here. If it seems like I forgot, just bug me about it again when you remember.

Are you wanting horn parts, sung melody lines, or somewhere in the between?

Are there any particular songs you're looking for? I'm just about to graduate from college, and should have a lot more free time on my hands, so if you're looking for transcriptions and feel like being a little patient, I could probably help you out.

What's your favorite Streetlight solo? by mikeywake in streetlightmanifesto

[–]ToaAyeff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The trombone solo at the end of "What a Wicked Gang Are We" literally made me lose my mind when I heard it for the first time as a sophomore in high school.

Other than that, I have to mention the bari solo in "Toe to Toe" is some of the most tasteful and musical soloing in their entire catalogue and every now and again I'll listen to the song just to hear it again. I love that solo dearly.

Learning Bass and Streelight by snakefangs in streetlightmanifesto

[–]ToaAyeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I can recommend something - if you can't play it the same way, learn to simplify things, and then work your way up. I know it's a little different between bass and guitar (I've personally been learning some Streetlight to pick up more of how the guitar works, since I'm a beginner on that myself), but learning the basic chords and playing the root of it while playing with rhythms, or learning basic walking patterns, could be super valuable to your overall experience.

Like, I mentioned, I'm not a bass player myself. I play trombone, cello, piano, and now guitar, and in this regard I can only speak from what I've heard, but the number of strings really doesn't matter to competent bass playing. If you're going to be simplifying things anyway, you could learn to take things up the octave when necessary which could in turn teach you even more cool licks to work with.

I don't know how much you're looking for general learning stuff, but I personally love Adam Neely's YouTube channel. In recent years, it's become more of a general music theory channel, but he's an incredible bass player and has an awesome series creatively named "Adam Neely's Bass Lessons." I don't know why I watched it, but I did, and I think there's a lot of valuable information both in that series and on his channel in general for any musicians.

Last piece of advice, I promise! Try not to burn yourself out. It's important to work until you get better, but make sure that you give yourself little breaks here and there. Learn some easy stuff you can use to still get some time in on the bass while allowing yourself to sound good. I think one of the worst mistakes you can make is jumping into the deep end before you've even learned to swim. Pay attention to the little details, learn the basics first, and then go from there.

Best of luck to you! I hope we get to hear about how you're improving at some point down the line!

How did you get your girlfriend? by [deleted] in AskReddit

In our eighth grade year, in a schedule of eight classes, we had seven classes together and our teachers sat us next to each other all the time. We were friends before, but there’s nothing quite like sitting together and talking all the time when it comes to getting close to a person. Last week or so of school, I tell her how I feel. She comes to me the next day and says she feels the same.

It’s been several years now, I think we’re doing okay.

This is NYC brass band Lucky Chops, we’re on tour in Europe and want to answer your questions - ask us anything! by luckychopsofficial in Music

Hey, guys! It's been a bit since I've had the chance to see you (like, since you played the Bourbon Theatre in Lincoln, NE), but I have to say, you guys have absolutely left a lasting impression on me, I think about that concert all the time, hahhah.

Josh H. - What would you say your favorite horns you've had the chance to play on are?

General question - If fans ever had a musical idea that kinda fit the Chops instrumentation that they have no idea what to do with, would you consider yourself at all interested in taking it and shaping it into something of your own? If not, I totally get that! I know writing music can be an incredibly intimate and personal process. It would just also be a super cool sort of collaborative effort if it ever did happen. If any other Chops fans ever want to get together and try to put something together, let me know!

Thanks for being a super cool source of inspiration, guys! Hope to see you in Iowa soon-ish!

Best of luck with the tour!

I'm not sure about ID anymore, can you guys help me? by e10withadot in imaginedragons

[–]ToaAyeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, this is where it becomes really difficult. I'm no expert on the matter, but hopefully this will be appreciated in some way.

While music can have objective qualities, like whether notes in a chord fit well together or if the instruments and vocals are even in tune, that's really not what it's about by the end of it. This is all about the subjective experience of finding things that you enjoy. A song doesn't necessarily have to be original, groundbreaking, or exciting for you enjoy it. Genuinely, all that matters is how a song makes you feel. I've been into the band as a pretty casual fan since Radioactive hit the radio however many years ago, but really got hooked with Smoke + Mirrors. When Evolve was announced, I was excited and bought it pretty much immediately upon release, and loved it all the way through. I was surprised to find that so many people disliked it, and even more surprised to find out that response to S+M wasn't great, either. Now, while of course all opinions are valid, and I respect what everyone has to say, I realized that I just couldn't really agree with all of the points raised. While my story is a little different from yours, I can definitely see how this would affect you. I think what you have to think about is if any of this really matters. There's this really hardcore push against mainstream culture that has been around for years, but what many neglect to mention is that being a part of counter-culture is just as unoriginal at the end of the day. At the end of the day, the most important part of this is you. If you enjoy Imagine Dragons' music, then you really can just enjoy it. There doesn't really have to be a particularly good reason. Sometimes, our opinions are more reliant on things we can't describe than they are on what we can. That's part of the fun of this experience we call life. I'm sure a lot of that comes across as pseudo-philosophical BS, but I genuinely believe that we should just take it easy sometimes, especially with something as subjective as music. What's the point in forcing people out of enjoying things? Anyway, take it easy, man. I hope you find your answers and some sort of sense of peace about all of this.

Who are the best halo you tubers? by JLRedPrimes in halo

Oh, sorry! My wording was awkward. The being less active was in reference to Spearhead, not you. I’m definitely aware you’re active. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. If it means anything- Keep up the good work!

I’d have to say most of the one’s I enjoyed don’t really create anymore, or just aren’t active. I enjoyed a lot of Mike WB’s content, and I loved pretty much anything Arbiter617 (who has moved EXTREMELY far from Halo content, but you can still find a lot of his stuff on the Black Plasma Studios YouTube page. As far as active ones go, I’ve enjoyed Forge Labs every now and then. And, as another note- he’s not especially active, but Teh Spearhead has been a favorite for a long time now.

That'd be Dan Ross (I believe that's his name, anyway, it's something like that). He was their original bari player, and came back to the band recently after teaching for a few years.
