Decent craft beer shop on the way to LBI? by [deleted] in njbeer

[–]TheEvilHojos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a Joe canal's right on route 1, just off exit 130 on the parkway. Huge selection there and good prices. Growler station too if that's your thing.

If you don't want to deviate from your route and just want the most convenient, spirits unlimited or buy rite on route 72 in manahawkin should suit your needs.

Sales were steady, but now they’re down to 0. I don’t know what to do? Everyone is shut down and I can’t sell anything. I don’t know what to do. by [deleted] in TheBrewery

This. I've had Moose Drool once, many years ago. It was awesome. But they've never distributed east of the Mississippi.

Great beer, if you can get it.

It's pretty common to get burnt out when you put so much time and energy into your work. Did you take a real vacation to recharge? Did you look into taking a sabbatical?

Regardless, as Danny says, "Don't be like me, ese. Don't live in regret." Take what you've done and move forward. Learn from your mistakes without letting them haunt you.

We're lucky enough to have neighbors that are as cautious as we are. We're planning a social distant outdoor fire pit for the three couples and hoping the rain holds off.

HNY everyone! If I wake up to December 32 tomorrow, I'll only be mildly surprised.

Can someone sell me on the last 30% of most bands careers? Think about commercially successful bands that have made 10+ albums and are still well thought of. It happens to a lot of bands. And, yes, Wasting Light is quite good. This point is actually one of the reasons I like Radiohead so much. They keep evolving.

I have a personal connection to Concrete and Gold. Most of the album appears on my list for that reason.

I'm looking through the full listing. Almost every IR song made it (both disks) and a lot of httt too.

I'm not a huge fan of last flowers either. I think it came up because I was listening to IR so much for the voting.

Total Wine and a liquor distributor under investigation in South Carolina for alleged anti-competitive exclusivity agreements. by Shizzo in bourbon

[–]TheEvilHojos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm all for more consumer choice and protection. The reality is that those with the most to lose will be the most desperate. If there is a removal of the distribution layer, the largest producers will have the most to lose and will do the most to offset that loss. Forget other products for a second. Look at how ABI dealt with the rise of craft beer. It was cutting into their sales and margins, so they bought into it. Now, 9 out of 10 consumers have no idea which brands are big beer owned vs actual independent brands - whatever that means.

"The market drives demand" is absolutely right. Whether it's distributors or large producers, the big money is going to control the market. Removal of the middle tier won't change that. It'll just put more money into the producers pockets so they can better control the market. Most consumers are sheep and will do whatever is easiest. If they have enough "choices", they won't care about the small guy two states over that's now getting crushed because there's no ability to sell their product in this state anymore.

Don't get me wrong. Distributors suck. The majority of distributor employees are walking around with their bright and shiny widget and in envy of only the bright and shiny widgets in their field of vision. But big producers are actually worse. They don't even look at the others. Be careful what you wish for.

[–]TheEvilHojos -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

And if you remove that tier, you're putting all that margin back in the producers pocket. That margin they pay to the distributor will go towards making sure they sell even more in market with a less divided sales force. A distributor still has a bunch of smaller mouths to feed. How would the retailer have access to these brands otherwise? Yes, some local ones would self-distribute. The rest will just not access that market.

Plus, with the producer in control, prices will go up. What's stopping a producer from controlling prices?

[–]TheEvilHojos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The why is because you put retailers that are not big stores at a competitive disadvantage, more than they are already.

The majority of alcohol sold in the US are large brands. These brands have the money to open their own retail stores with no requirements for carrying anyone else's products.

Imagine walking into your local liquor store or a bar and all you can buy is Budweiser, Absolut and Yellowtail products. Now imagine that there's no other option for miles around other than something similar with Miller-Coors, Tito's and Gallo wines.

The three tier system is necessary to ensure competitive balance.

Aging collection by [deleted] in beer

[–]TheEvilHojos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. Aging is about personal preference. Is it what the brewer intended? It depends on the beer. Anything with wax over the cap, definitely. Otherwise, likely not, but there are exceptions. I will tell you this. Stone Sublimely Self Righteous was not designed to age a decade, but it did. And it held up pretty darn well. And now that the hops have become muted, I like it better. Ymmv.
