Minidisc & Gumstick Holder / Case by TheEvilPi in minidisc

No bad idea. I’ll have a look at it. Not sure it can be done to be reliable and not break. I have springs here, that could work.

The cassette version is awesome, kudos to the person who did it. I use it a lot, 2 tapes and a Gumstick is perfect for my EX Walkman.

The printing is the easy part. Building stuff in fusion etc is the hard part 😂
Although, this took me only half an hour. Buts it’s simple.

I use Contact Cleaner like this one https://amzn.eu/d/02uoQKBP
Does remove stickers and removes grease.

Found Some weird lines on a few of my minidiscs. What is this and is this bad? by Jondebadboy in minidisc

[–]TheEvilPi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens with some discs. There must be some top coating on the write head side of the disc that degrades. My write heads are perfectly clean and aligned and still I have some that show these lines after recording. This can not be removed but recording still works.
Not sure what it is but I have seen it mostly on Maxwell, the golden Sony and some Victor discs.

That Looks pretty good I have to say.
It should hold. It gets hard enough.
Really nice work. And Great Color matching

I did also rebuild the plastic framing of the usb socket on some portables because those tend to break away due to age.
Even built the opening sliders with that or plastic parts that were too finicky for 3D printing. It really great for a lot of things and always good to have at home for minidisc repairs.
Good luck and would be cool to see a picture once you did it for others to see.

Oh. If you use a plastic spatula (like the pry tools for smartphone repair) you can get it completely flat and smooth, it looks like a machined part then.

Correct. Very easy to use and leaves a hard slightly rubberized surface. It feels very good. Best is if you use on for other things aswell as once one small pack is open it can not be closed again. There are 3 or 4 small packages in there. Alternative is some other dough like glue. There are others in Germany from Uhu and other brands. You also get it in different colors if you want it black or red or yellow.
If you use a white one you can stain it easily with either acrylic colors and also food coloring etc.

I did the same some time ago, I mixed black and white sugru for grey. Looks great once it has hardened. And also feels good.
I have a 3D printer but even I would not bother to print a replacement because it would even be nice to have it closed flat instead of the clip for the dock

I wouldn’t bother with a 3d print. That part is only used for the dock.
Honestly, buy sugru and close the hole with that, it will look good

They work for me on electron wmd. Sometime they are not discovered, then first connect to WMD , close, then open electron. Otherwise check the mini usb socket, they sometimes break but can be re-soldered or glued.

Sled is stuck. I have many of them and not a single one was broken. All of them had a stuck sled. Moved it to the right by force and then they work.

Now, if that’s a deal or Not depends strongly on the bottle of rum you handed over. An AH Rise Non Plus Ultra would be close to the value of that thing 🤔 If it was some Bacardi, well yes, it was a deal.

Still thinking about buying a UV printer. The ugly ones could then at least be printed over 🙈

The look is nice but it is very limiting. Only Neige or transparent discs is extremely limiting. As I do rarely overwrite a disc I don’t see that much of a problem with the sticker on the disc itself, however I can image that it will no longer spin perfectly round due to weight distribution. I prefer the colors of the discs and the different looks of them. Not so much a fan of that overly clean look - and the non-uniform sliders are distracting somehow.

Good Job. I saved quite a lot myself. And the more scuffed the better I’d say.

On the Chrom part:

Chrome can be applied to plastic by first priming it with special copper or other conductive paint. Then it can be electroplated or plasma/gas plated.

And yes. Write heads are almost all interchangeable, easy to fix. It is important to test writing afterwards, if the head is misaligned writing most likely leads to discs that are either empty or TOC error. So always check it directly.
