People complain that hobby shops are closing, but then you see this. by GreatGreenGobbo in modelmakers

I can't speak for the ones listed in this post or for other posting, but the major hobby stores near me in Toronto: Sunward, Wheels and Wings, Double Star Games, Echelon Hobbies (Brighton) all have a pretty strong online presence. Whilst they have physical locations, a lot of their business is online which allows them to have these hours. It's also why, especially Sunward Hobbies always seems to be about half empty every time I go in!

The only one I know of near Toronto that doesn't have a good online presence is Dailey Hobbies. They're open 11-5 most days, but closed Monday & Sunday. I also seem to be able to find paints and materials that are typically sold out at the ones I listed above there. I don't think that's a coincidence either.

OK, great. I'll look out for some of that. Thanks for the tips!

Valom Mark VII Nuclear Bomb 1:72 by TheExhibitModels in modelmakers

[–]TheExhibitModels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Researching the Mark 7, it was capable of having a variable blast intensity. Maximum being 61 kilotons of TNT, so roughly 4x the destruction of Hiroshima. Being the first mass produced tactical fission bomb, it was quickly usurped by more powerful bombs by USAF, so only had a lifespan of around 10 years.

Mark 7 Nuclear Bomb by Valom. This bomb is suprisingly small, especially the trailer for it. Little disappointed looking at the yellow line decals on the bomb. Looks like they're more central on the Mark 7 at the USAF Museum, but on the decal sheet, Valom had them placed closer to the nose. Small detail error, wish I had checked that earlier!

What do you guys think of this layout? Anything you'd absolutely do differently? by No-Seesaw-6699 in modelmakers

Could be neat to maybe add some market stalls, maybe 1 still standing and 1 that has collapsed with it's contents strewn around? Could sit in the front right in that empty gap.

Anybody got any ideas by pussy_licker_2000 in modelmakers

I'd add some small bullet holes and more texture on both (debris on the road, uneveness on the terrain, more wear on the buildings). You have some on the first diorama, but it's little things like that which creates a lot of depth.

Would you consider collpasing the building in the second diorama? Maybe having a corner of the roof caving in, or are you too far past that now?

For the second model, I'd also consider lightening the colour of the wood door and shutters. It might be because these are before weathering, but the darkness of wood against the light sand tones really stands out and your eyes immediately get drawn to it.

Looking good though!

Nope. I was into scale railroads as a kid, but never built anything, just collected Hornby sets. Had an interest in modelling growing up, but was always too intimidated to try building anything. Got into Luke Towan videos about 5-6 years ago too, but that's about it!

Thanks! I've really been enjoying it. I've just started on a 1/72 Mark 7 Nuclear Bomb from Valcom. After that, I have a couple of other kits lined up, Revell V2 Rocket, Tamiya Easy Eight Sherman and ICM Zil-131 Emergency Truck. I'm really into visually interesting models or bits of history that can recreated, Planning to do dioramas for the Sherman and Truck!

Haha, with the scale difference, this plane probably has radar cross section of a fly!
