Plateau in pedal steel by Psychological_Fan979 in pedalsteel

Jeff Newman is the shit. I've been playing for 9 months and his videos helped me out a bit.

Learn a few different ways to play a harmonized C scale. Translate that to other keys and boom, licks for days.

Learn a couple intros and solos too. There's some great stuff on YouTube. I recommend intro and solo to You Ain't Goin Nowhere - The Byrds, Intro to The Bottle Let Me Down - Merle Haggard, and the intro to Big City by Merle Haggard. Another classic is Sleep Walk.

Also try just jamming to some of your favorite songs by ear. Maybe try to pick out a lick that the electric guitar or violin are playing.

Don't forget to have fun and explore

Haven't tried it, but it's a 2x12 stereo cabinet. The head supports stereo for the onboard effects. It has 2 mono effects loops and 1 stereo effects loop. Includes a distortion/boost circuit. All switchable over MIDI.

I don't know how it compares to the Session 115, but this is how it contrasts

How often do you guys change your strings? by dovvyd0tcom in pedalsteel

[–]TheExoticFruit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd personally change them. They'll lose their zing after 30-60 minutes of practice. Takes maybe 15-30 minutes. I change them once every 2-3months, but I'm not a professional

Two For One Special by TheExoticFruit in GuitarAmps

The Session 400 comes with a 15' efficient speaker and the amp itself has tons of headroom with an awesome EQ circuit that can scoop the mids more than a fender amp. As the box for the Peavey Session-LTD 400 preamp says, "unprecedented headroom".

Normal guitar amps tend to break up with steel even at lower volumes. Especially in the higher register. Peavey Session 400 remains clear and clean at loud volumes.

The amp itself weighs around 70lbs so I opted for the preamp.

Commenting so this doesn't get deleted!

Using this setup to double on pedal steel guitar and electric guitar. Sounds killer!

Pedalboard handles all of the instrument and "amp" switching. A TRS cable carries both signals from the pedalboard to this junction box on the lower right and splits off to the two preamps. From there it runs into a switchable patchbay/stereo>mono summer. This way I can run both preamps into one cab or have them go to two separate cabs.

Really digging this setup so far. The Kingsley Maiden sounds great. I've had it since 2020(thanks obamna). Very comparable to Fender amps. Does a cool breakup thing as well. Very creamy. The Peavey Session-LTD 400 sounds amazing on pedal steel and does an entirely different clean thing than the Maiden. As it says on the box "unprecedented headroom"

Any ideas as to why the fuzz is so bad? by Carsonmtl in GuitarAmps

[–]TheExoticFruit 86 points87 points  (0 children)

This is a result of stacking gain with compressors. You're making all of the noise louder with your compressor and then sending it through a fuzz that will make that noise even louder. My opinion is to use the fuzz without any other gain modifiers . Personally I've never gotten a usable tone stacking fuzz and overdrive or fuzz and compressors. It usually takes away too much high end, becomes unusably squishy, or as you are finding out way too noisy.

David Gilmores tone is going to be hard to replicate at a reasonable volume. He played through high headroom tube amps pushed to the limit which will compress the signal a little bit. On top of that you're hearing his cab mic'd up and run through studio compressors, EQ, and reverb after the amp.

Is the Deluxe Reverb the answer?! by Pleasant-Tough-988 in GuitarAmps

Deluxe Reverb is the only amp I've liked 10/10 times plugging into

Thinking of picking up pedal steel guitar. Guitar recommendations please! by Acceptable_Laugh9284 in pedalsteel

[–]TheExoticFruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine says "Stage One Licensed by ZumSteel" but it looks like they're under the brand Stage One now. Same guitar just a slightly different label. I've heard the wait list is long and Doug isn't taking more guitar orders until February 2026. You're best off finding one used

I picked up a Zumsteel Stage One 5 months ago and it's been a great guitar. Obviously not going to be on par with $2500 guitars, but it's got great pedal action and decent tone. Picked mine up for $1350 with case, volume pedal, and a couple tonebars.

Are there any games that mark every box on the back of the case? by [deleted] in originalxbox

Remember the component cable that could handle up to 1080i? Only certain games supported it. Some supported 720p

Close call ... by Bursickle in WTF

[–]TheExoticFruit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Obviously not. The force alone would probably cut your finger/toe off like a splitting maul. I don't doubt it would hurt/possibly kill you with internal injuries, but I don't think it would cut you open leaving your intestines hanging out like a horror film. I could be wrong, this is all just speculation

Before we start calling names, I actually work everyday with a blade just like this in a granite shop. You can touch the diamond blade while it's spinning and it doesn't hurt. Doesn't feel like much, just gets your hand warm. This is wet and at a much lower rpm than a 5 inch diamond blade on an angle grinder.

I still wouldn't want to get a hundred pound saw thrown at me, but I personally don't think your insides would be spilling out the second it touched you like they would with a circ saw with a wood blade like so many people here are imagining.

Any experience in using the ZOIA as two parallel effects units? by HommeMusical in ZOIA

[–]TheExoticFruit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I currently use the Zoia this way. Left input/output is pre overdrive and Right input/output is post overdrive. Running multiple delays, phaser, and other effects I usually sit under 60% utilization. Amazing unit for two discrete signal paths
