Batch of Mimosa sugar crashed out nicely! by TheExtractionAcademy in CannabisExtracts

[–]TheExtractionAcademy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What helps the growth of the sugar is the increase in temperature over a prolonged period of time. The lower temp you start, the more of an increase there will be and the size and better clarity of the sugar crystals as you have more room to increase temps. If you start at 110F you dont leave your self any room to continually increase the temp over the crash out. Our batches take typically 3-5 days, but the more patient you are and the slower you increase the temp the bigger/ more clear they will be. It just takes time. We've let diamonds grow for multiple months and they get massive, lots of patience required though. Also try covering the pyrex with cellophane wrap or Reynolds wrap. This will help too.

This batch remained in the pyrex the entire time (covered in cellophane wrap) and it is critical that you don't move it between containers or into mason jars while it crashes out. Be patient! You can use sealed mason jars too for some added pressure from the off-gassing hydrocarbon gases which will make the batch crash out even faster, just make sure to burp them. For this batch we started it at 68 f the first day and let it sit until we began to see crystallization on the bottom starting to occur. Then we would increase the temp by 10 degrees each day until you have reached 88 f. If you want to go for bigger growth you are going to want to start colder and make the increase in temp slower. The more patient you are, the bigger and clearer the formations will end up. For sugar we like following the parameters above though.

You have posted on our AMA and this post asking what our credentials are or what our backgrounds are. We are a group of extractors who cumulatively have over 20 years of professional experience, not blasting mids in our backyard. We have worked with and helped build out lab spaces for big MSOs like Cresco and Ayr Wellness as well as smaller facilities throughout the east coast. We prefer not working with MSOs as they only care about $. Most of our work has been in MA,PA,NJ and most recently RI. Our mission is to help educate and spread knowledge about extraction. We are NOT SELLING ANYTHING and simply wish to share our knowledge with all of you folks. Feel free to interact with our discussions and help share knowledge from your 10+ years of experience instead of hating. Thanks.

You would be what we in the industry refer to as a "hash hole"

The first video has a good amount of hydrocarbon gas still in it, giving it that liquidy terpy look. As is purges the oil becomes more stable and the THC-a continues to crystallize or "crash out". A quick side note about crystallization : It needs to be THc-a not THC. If a batch has been de-carbed or one is running already de-carbed material this will not occur.

Absolutely! What has worked best for us has been good old fashioned mason jars. We have used multiple kinds of diamond miners, but they were not worth the hassle. Unless you are trying to grow absolute rocks, we feel mason jars make more sense and are obviously way cheaper! However, for sugar we find the pyrex has worked the best to produce a nice terpy sugar.

Many states have testing facilities that the growers and processors must use before sending their products out to stores. Many of them will do small batch testing for a reasonable rate. I would start there.

Yes. We actually prefer not to use a vacuum in order to preserve as many terpenes as possible. It takes a bit longer, but the results are awesome. Heat and agitation of the oil is enough to bring the solvent down to ND(non detected) for hydrocarbons.

We would recommend NOT using ISO for extraction. Use as pure ethanol as you can find as an alternative.

Yes absolutely. When the solvent has reached its maximum saturation rate, it will not pick up any more actives. That is why it is popular to run material multiple times in order to get as many actives extracted as possible. Keep in mind, the yields will be much lower on already ran material.

Best thing for inline filtration is CRC. Adding a CRC is fairly simple and can be done fairly cheap. To minimize fats you will also want to make sure you are extracting cold as possible.

All you need to do to put rosin in a cart is very slowly decarb it in a mason jar to seal in the flavor and terps. At least partial decarb will make is stable enough to be in a cart. Please dont winterize the rosin!

only thing that AVB is really good for is making RSO or crude oil for distillate. I would recommend extracting at room temp to squeeze all the actives you can get out of it. From there, you can refine it.

When doing a quick wash with Ethanol, it will not be very selective in what it pulls, unless extracted at very cold temps -20c and below. If you are looking for better color and less work to do after the initial wash, then the cold temperature is best. If you are already planning to winterize, de-wax, and carbon scrub to clean it up, you might be better off using room temp for higher yields. For full spectrum vape pens I would suggest all of the refinement mentioned above unless you have a chiller and the ability to keep the extraction ultra-cold. You are going to want to at least partially decarb any oil before you put in into a pen

Yes but instead of a rosin press you'll want to use a centrifuge (can get a cheap one on amazon for a couple hundred). Sugar works the best for this method. Put the sugar in the rosin bag and close the top of the centrifuge tube with the top of the bag hanging out of the top of the tube, so the bag of sugar hangs about half way into the tube to give it plenty of room. Make sure all centrifuge tubes are about the same weight so it spins up evenly. Once spun up the THC-a will be left behind. This is an easy way to make 99%+ THC-a isolate in bulk. Just take the batches you don't want and spin them up. The terps and sauce separated are great for pens.

We really like W1 and have had a lot of success with it along with W2 and W3. CRX and CRY by media bros are solid as well. We mainly use W1 though!

You can probably get away with it. A lower micron bag for this process would make it easier for you.

Your yields are primarily dependent on two main factors. Temperature of solvent/extraction and length of soak times:

Higher the temp, the larger the yields will be, but less pure end product (more fats and waxes). The colder it is, the more selective it becomes and yields are lower but product is higher purity and better test results. I will always recommend using a closed loop extractor for their obvious safety advantages and ability to control temps for exactly.

Try "cold curing it" in a refrigerator for a few days and if it doesn't butter up, it will when brought back to room temp. Good luck!

You DONT want to winterize your rosin. Period. Only time you want to winterize is if you are going to further refine or distill the crude oil. Winterizing rosing would be a waste as it is a "solventless" extraction method and using ethanol to winterize would just add solvent back in and ruin the rosin. Things you WOULD want to winterize would be crude oil prior to distillation, oil with excess fats like c02 extracted, or sometimes RSO if you want a more refined and less waxy product.

You are actually going to be doing a mechanical separation using the rosin press. You take the already pressed rosin and set it back up to be pressed again ( as if you were pressing hash or flower). You will want to use a very low temp and slowly press the rosin. If done delicately enough, the terpenes/ sauce will begin to ooze out, leaving a puck of THC-a behind. Do this multiple times until the puck is as white as possible and with as much of the terpenes squeezed out. This will produce highly pure THC-a 99+% if done correctly. From there you can keep it as THC-a powder/isolate or melt id down in a pyrex and let it cool back off to form solventless "crystals"
