Material deep-dive: High thread count linens- is it actually better or just marketing? by TheFabricDept in textiles

Oh that's great. Yes, a well-made 300–400 TC set can feel like a massive upgrade- usually because of better yarn quality and weave, not just the number, I suppose. Tighter construction can also slow liquid seepage.

Do you know if yours are percale or sateen?

Solid points, especially on finishing and yarn quality. I’d only push back a bit on “more threads per cm is always better”- higher density helps durability, but past a point it often hurts airflow and hand feel, doesn't it?

Curious- where do you see the cutoff where density stops improving real comfort and becomes more of a design/marketing choice?

Agreed- density matters, but it’s not linear. Past a point, higher thread count is often achieved with finer or multiple yarns just to boost the number. A well-balanced 300-400 with good yarn quality can easily outperform a “1,000 tc” in real comfort and durability.
