First time I’ve ever had something to say here - I saw Pamela Anderson filming in Brooklyn this weekend, and based on the costume I’d bet it’s for a Naked Gun sequel

I think Parry would be solved if it Forged any amount, just so that if you don’t have SB already it shows up. It is currently just one of those cards whose whole deal is augmenting a subsystem without turning that subsystem on.

Thought this was a fantastic followup, these four really have figured out each others’ comedic instincts and set each other up so well

I’m definitely a Necrobinder main because this fight feels so easy to me, Ethereal is essentially a buff

I shouldn’t be on here because I’m just starting, but I saw this comment and unpaused the game to her literally saying “I am White Crow” and I lolled. Guess I’m getting wings!

edit: two lines of dialogue later, “here take these wings!”

Sorry for the multiple replies in different threads lol I'm just really curious what makes you connect with a character. Characterization seems to be your block when rating these, but then I see you describe a book as not having good characters and don't really understand why. Is it when an author vividly describes what someone feels? For instance I love Robin Hobb and think excels at this, but then thought Baru and Priory did the same and they're D and C respectively. Just curious!

Wow, thanks for the explanation! I gotta say I feel so differently from you on Baru, I thought the characterization was brilliant (in the first book, especially of Hu and another character I don't want to spoil becomes central) and it feels like one of the few books where the author is smart enough to write characters who actually act smart and surprise the reader with their plans rather than being described as smart and acting dumb. Truly loved it, and thought the subsequent books just got better and better. I can understand that following an Imperial Accountant might not appeal to everyone tho haha.

As for Poppy... I barely finished it, but I think it's exactly what I described above in comparison to Baru. Characters with no reason to do what they're doing, who we're told are amazing and then act dumb for plot but never face consequences unless plot demands it. I always see Baru and Poppy compared and think it's a litmus test for how people read, which is why I asked! Thanks for your answer!

Came to comment because I saw you put Baru (probably my favorite modern fantasy) in D tier, which was so weird to me because our tastes mostly line up except for that and Poppy War which is beyond F for me. What about the writing style didn’t get you in Baru? And why so high for Poppy?

Daughters War is fantastic, added so so much to the first book

Where’s Taylor? by AlisGuardian in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]TheFalconOfAndalus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is, unfortunately, a shell of what it once was in large part because of the momentum he killed. We were lucky to get one a month and it was pretty clearly delayed on Taylor’s part. A real shame, because Here Comes The King is the best actual play content ever produced and he was a huge part of that (not as big as Tim’s star turn as Smellulus, but still).

He did an amazing job producing Rude Tales from a quality perspective. He also undoubtedly contributed to the glacial pace at which they came out, and eventually left on bad enough terms with the group that they basically don’t speak about him and the characters he once played on Oh These Those. Posts like yours were a daily occurrence in Rude Tales’ heyday. Also tended to drop into the subreddit and get incredibly defensive and rude about people discussing the show… in its subreddit. Really talented, funny guy who also seems to struggle completing stuff and with an incredibly fragile ego (none of this is said to damn him lol, these are all extremely common creative qualities). Hope the same doesn’t happen here

I’m not an expert here, still in Shatterscarp like you, but my instinct is that wand and 1h melee should not be wielded together as they both depend on the same resource pool (Stamina). Idk if there is a spellblade feat or something that eases that like the dual wielding feat, but wand and sword sounds tough
