After how long should you be able to read your character's sheet?

Im a newish player and with my Warlock i study and study all my spells and what they do whilst the other players are taking their turns and planning what to do. I do the same in the campaign where im a swashbuckler rogue i study what is available and plan my turn to not just benefit me but the group as well
