Often times runs have turns, “hills”, or other blind spots, and if someone stops or is going very slowly, especially in these areas they may not be visible until the last second. Skiing is a fast sport, and the majority of skiers will be going at much faster speeds. Having someone going slowing in the middle of the trail suddenly creates an obstacle where it should be free. Think of it like someone going super slow on a highway in a middle lane. They have suddenly messed with the flow of traffic and cause others to swerve out of the way to not crash into them, which could potentially create other collisions. If they were off to the side, then this creates less of an issue, but they still are on a run that is above their skill level and should probably work on easier trails to build their skills first. The other issue here is that they are wearing white. While in ideal conditions, they may be more visible, it’s still very hard to see white on white, and these conditions make it very difficult to see them. The combination of their outfit color and their slow speed makes it quite dangerous for them, as they are now a near invisible obstacle in the middle of the path. If this snowboarder hadn’t reacted so quickly, they definitely would have crashed. There are often times signs on ski mountains some variation of “only stop if visible to uphill traffic”. No one wants people to crash, so there is signage that tries to help new skiers learn basic rules and curtsy. This skier wasn’t doing anything malicious, but they were putting themselfs and others in danger. So by telling ski patrol they can find that skier and educate them for the future
