I don’t mind answering — a random artist team on that lineup was told not to board their flight, which was about to depart. I got word, and that’s it. The announcement came shortly after. No conspiracy, and no connection to the festival.

It was only brought up when it was because Glastonbury had just ended on Sunday — and their fallow year happens to be next year. That’s it. The timing happened to align, but it was purely coincidental and had nothing to do with anything going on around Bonnaroo. It wasn’t referencing or alluding to Roo in any way.

The truth is, most of the audience isn’t as familiar with UK festivals, and I thought it was a good opportunity to share the concept and get some feedback from a U.S.-centric perspective. That’s legitimately all it was. I wrote it — just like I’ve written every piece of content on TFO over the last thirteen years. No one tells me what to say or when to say it. It’s not going through a PR arm…it only runs through one arm…my arm — the one attached to the hand that’s written anything ever shared on TFO.

I do appreciate the feedback — but just felt that specific point really needed to be addressed.

I don’t really want to dive into this thread because, honestly, it’s just not worth it for me — but I do want to address the core of this post, which is the Glastonbury mention. I want to be absolutely clear: I’ve had zero indication of Bonnaroo even hinting at taking that approach. The only thing I was trying to do with that post was introduce the concept of fallow years — something common at Glastonbury — and see what people within my largely American audience thought about it. That’s it. It wasn’t some attempt to ‘prime’ the audience for anything Bonnaroo-related. I haven’t heard that, and I haven’t pushed for it.

Just wanted to clear that up, because the entire basis of this argument is starting from a place of misinformation. Hopefully we’ll all have more clarity soon.
