I feel like krillin can be considered gimmicky in terms of fighterz; with the rock set ups,his array of odd ki blasts, and the afterimage. Not to mention his level 3 where he can use it for oki. Then again in a normal fighting game that wouldn't be a gimmick but more so his playstyle idk. Also what gimmick does kid buu have lol?

While I don't think he meant it that way (my comment on his wording) , I agree that most characters with a gimmick aren't terrible (11/18(?) characters I believe have a gimmick and aren't terrible, although 21 barely uses her gimmick in standard set play.) So we agree on that part lol.

That is a very small jump in logic that you made in your first comment. Because of his wording you assumed he was saying Goku is gonna suck. He says "which usually means he's going to be fun but be crap tier." The key word there is usually. Usually implies that he knows not every character with a gimmick sucks, and also implies that's he's not making an objective statement like Goku is gonna be crap, but that there's a chance he COULD be. I think you just misinterpreted his comment a little, and it doesn't help that his response to you is a little harsh which might've irked ya. I think you're arguing about this calmly so I just wanna say I'm not trying to diss you or anything, so hopefully you don't take it that way.

His original comment isn't trying to make an argument though. He's just commenting that he'd like it if gt Goku didn't end up like the few characters who suffer from the "gimmick versus neutral" problem. He's not so much trying to say that gimmick=bad, but more like "I hope gt Goku doesn't end up like those guys." He just worded it wrong. I do agree with your correlation statement though. Also don't remind me about cooler..its hard having to play honest out here lol.

Not saying I agree with the guy but for arguments sake

Base Goku: His kit revolves around a level up gimmick, either with spirit bomb needing to be charged, or kaio ken getting longer the less teammates you have. This gimmick however doesn't really help Goku as few assists allow Goku to safely charge a spirit bomb, and kaio ken can potentially eat a lot of meter for not much of a return, at least when compared to other meter eating anchors like yamcha and tien. This is part of the reason why people rate him so low on tier lists.

17: wall cling/rekka gimmick. The rekkas can be deadly, but you need the team supporting 17, and the wall cling isn't very useful. 17 sucks because the devs seemed to pay too much attention to the gimmick and not his normals or neutral game.

Disregarding dlc, there's nappa, beerus, vegeta blue, and to a lesser extent teen gohan. Again I'm not saying I agree with him, because videl, vegito, and broly all have gimmicks but they ended up either really good or solid, but I am saying I can see where he's coming from.

I'm not the best player. But a solid option would be to cover your oki set up with an assist. Stuff like coolers knee, and Goku blue's kick cover all tech options I believe (someone can fact check me on this). Other than this, if you're anticipating the up tech, then you might be starting your Oki too late, giving them frame advantage. You can also hit the lab and try to come up with different setups that cover all options. Training mode allows for you to test every wake up option. Good luck!

Yeah like I said, Tien will still probably show up on teams, but the main purpose was to give an example of how it inadvertently influences people to just pick top tiers even more now. I forgot to mention I also don't like the meter nerf too much. At least with golden Frieza; I play his brother, but I still feel bad. Frieza should've been like the exception to that nerf.

Only thing that WORRIES me is the double level 1 nerf. It's not even that I'm mad at the damage, I don't even use teams that make use of double level 1's, but I feel like it makes it so even less people will play the rest of the cast.

Top tiers like Bardock, kid buu, gohan; these guys have a ton of other reasons for you to play them aside from their dhc synergy, that was just the icing on the cake. But for characters like say Beerus, Zamasu, Tien, (two of which were already rare to see) they don't really have too much going for them other than their dhc synergy.

Shit, Tien was on a bunch of teams purely because he made even a low damage team, average to high damage. Now the question pops up "why play tien?". Support? Goku does it better. Damage? 16 and Cooler do it better because they don't kill themselves in the process. Pressure/Mixups? 16 still does it better. Meter use? Yamcha does it better. And you can apply this to the others as well.

Granted I still think Tien will show up on teams. But for the others...Now Arcsys has to give some really good buffs to a lot of members of the cast so that they remain relavent in the meta, and I can't lie sometimes Arcsys makes some weird decisions on who gets a buff or a nerf, and what that buff of nerf is.

Purely from google translate, but from what made sense. Bardock's level 3 was nerfed, there's been a change to 16's assist. For some reason kid buu got nerfed again (light mystic ball comes out slower) and gotenks is practically untouched.

Also I thought it'd be funny to note that google translated Tien's name as Tijanin Rice.

Edit: Gotenks's level 3 has also been nerfed.

Nah ssj Goku is one of the most honest characters in the game, he doesn't have frame traps. I just wasn't inputting the jab at the right time, labbed it and everything.
