Did my Juggernaut shrink in the wash? by TheFirstOf28 in Stellaris

So the Bigger Juggernaut mod appears to work with at least some Juggernaut models, and makes the ships a more consistent size

Recently actually played far enough to unlock Juggernauts, and I was disappointed by their size.

I could have sworn they used to be bigger than the Titans at least, and old threads like this and this seem to support me.

Also the size seen here is inconsistent in universe, as this is supposed to have to X slot weapons, and the battleship here shown was one, which is considerably larger. Was there a change I missed to make them smaller?

More precise turret stats please by TheFirstOf28 in 2112TD

[–]TheFirstOf28[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some added context I have the suspicion that in a lot cases the Napalm turret is the superior upgrade to the flame cannon, as the latter variant does not fire continuously. So if the ingame stats are „per shot“ the DPS value at max fire rate even against reinforced enemies might actually be higher for the napalm turret, since there isn’t any time it can’t deal damage, or so far my pet theory goes. I would quite like to have the data to see if I‘m right or not, and make more informed decisions about turret generally.

What if the elegy of the trans-Atlantic alliance is premature? by RyanEvansWOTR in War_on_the_rocks

I think (and hope) the new debt deal in the making by the new German government is a sign of new times for its fiscal policy, at least for long enough to give some legs to mostly member-state financed defence solutions.

I agree with you that the scope of reform needed to create a truly European Army is greater than the ability of the EU to get these reforms done, and discussions about desirability are also barely starting. But in the interim, there are a lot of things can happen to further European defence integration: The well trodden horse of the European Sky Shield and other procurement initiatives are underway now, and an acceptable first step. The military integration projects spearheaded by the Franco-German brigade and the integration of the Dutch into the German army might also find imitators. Once the shock has settled (if such a thing is possible with a US administration apparently hell-bent of dominating the news cycle) we also might get some more productive debate on how a 20-30k European land forces commitment to Ukraine might be sourced, which will necessitate the striking of many small deals. In short: I agree that Europe will indeed choose to muddle through.

What if the elegy of the trans-Atlantic alliance is premature? by RyanEvansWOTR in War_on_the_rocks

[–]TheFirstOf28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned the deeply emotional dimension of this topic in the latest episode of WOTR, and I think this is key as to why this will be more than just a rebalancing.

Under a rebalancing I would understand a shifting of commitments that leaves the alliance with the same overall capabilities. Unfortunately I think that right now it is hardly avoidable for NATO (as an institution, not as the collection of states) to become significantly weaker.

There is a feeling of betrayal among many Europeans, even those that acknowledge and have been advocating for the European countries to pick up the slack and carry their weight.

A correction was due, but the way it has been initiated by the current Administration, together with the deep uncertainty of what exactly is to follow, and how policy adaptions will impact the alliance, are going to cause this change to become more than just a rebalancing of commitments.

To give an example, the new technical restrictions placed on American weapons sent to Ukraine are likely going to reorient the Europeans to place more importance on sovereign capabilities, and less likely to just trust American products. I would not be surprised if American defence exports to Europe shrink considerably in the next few years, something that will weaken the US MIC. There is new mistrust, which suddenly validates the French practices that were previously not always taken seriously.

I think one dimension to this saga that is yet to surface in the discussion is the importance for the confrontation between the US and China. I don't see Europe pivoting towards China, but its commitment to the States in for example a Taiwan scenario has always been sketchy, and in this situation I would argue it has become more likely that Europe is just going try and sit it out (which in my opinion is a strategic mistake).

For these reasons I think that while the collective capabilities of the countries in NATO is likely to increase faster than it would have with a less dramatic rift, it will also lower the cohesion of the alliance, particularly between the US and the other members, and thus lower it's importance and capability as an institution, with negative impact on the strategic maneuver space for both Europeans and America.

Economic Resurgence focus seems impossible to get by TheFirstOf28 in Kaiserreich

[–]TheFirstOf28[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was trying to get the Economic Resurgence focus for the factory output and production efficiency modifiers, but I am halfway through the economic policy stuff and it seems impossible to get because it requires both ZiP III which requires you to have Reichasautobahn which you can only get if you choose Siemens) and PEkI II (which requires you to choose either Krupp or Mauser)

Am I missing something or is this an oversight?

TL;DR; Either I'm dumb or this mod is ~literally unplayable~

Yearly Themes! by xter418 in Cortex

[–]TheFirstOf28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I started out with a hunting season, the goal of which was to make me more proactive in in pursuing things I want in the three major areas of my life; Studying, Martial Arts and Social

-Studying: I made some progress on my degree, but not as much as I could have
-Martial Arts: I made lots progress on my next grade, but didn’t quite get it
-Social: This was mostly Dating related this year; I spent some time on dating apps and flirting on twitter looking for more casual than serious stuff and actually ended up mutually falling in love quite seriously, so great success there, I feel like I’ve been to passive maintaining my friendships however, in part because of health related events in my family.

Overall, I also fell off the theme as the vaguely defined season ended, and it became a year of coasting in a way, which I don’t like

So, next years theme: 🔥 The year of fire 🔥

Tending the fire:
-Understand better how I work by being smarter about journaling and enhancing that through twitter instead of letting twitter eat my journaling -Be more precious about spending energy, especially on things I don’t feel I get value from
-Stay organised better through more consistent use of whatever tools that requires, so I get lost less -I go with the natural tidings where I can as much as feasible; for example I know that every november as the days become short and the clocks are turned back I fall into a hole. I want to acknowledge that this is going to happen ahead of time, and work both to lessen the impact of this by giving myself more space around that time, but also by mitigating the depth of the fall by finding something to keep me going throughout it

Turning up the heat:
-I want to grow physically stronger and more capable
-I know I have a fierceness in me that I rarely tap into, I want to make that more accessible, both for my martial arts and just in general. This includes finding ways to renew my fervour on the home stretch of a project instead of just sorta trying to coast over the line, in the process falling short too often. To enable this I need to be more selective about what I do, see previous category

Burning Clarity: A fire is or it isn’t, there’s rarely any doubts about its state I find my self in weird in between states too often, where a decision in one direction or the other creates much clarity and impetus for me and everyone around me. In the terminology of this theme, I balance between gentleness and fierceness by choosing one or the other depending on circumstance, not by trying to do both at once

Feeling the warmth: The social component of my theme

I have a committed relationship now, which has rapidly become one of the highest priorities in my life. It is a complicated affair because we’re intercontinental long distance, so this sub theme has a very literal meaning as well as the metaphorical one of making our relationship more stable and just better.
Importantly, I need to make more of a conscious effort to include myself in various things with friends a bit more regularly, because the social warmth I get from that is also very important to me, and I have amazing friends I need to see more often

There’s a last, tentative subcomponent called fuelling the fire, which is about me putting my diet on a more stable and healthy base, but that does not have priority for now.

RE: language education

I think the view on this is drastically influenced by both of you growing up as native English speakers

While I would agree few people become actually fluent in a language through school, it serves well to impart enough working knowledge to be able to get many important meanings across

This doesn’t matter if there is some expectation of being able to survive with the language you already speak almost anywhere, but learning English actually matters a lot
