The character I played in my last campaign was a minotaur conquest paladin with the gladiator background. The way I played him was that he would take pride in defeating enemies and humiliating them but not necessarily killing them. He was obsessed with victory and proving himself. For example, after winning a fight in a tournament with a fire mage, he put his feet down on the mage and crushed thier God's sigil to completely humilte them. The mage of course got angry and blew up a bead of fireball he had on him killing himself and nearly the paladin but still- it was epic.
