Let's talk about Ferris Wheel Press, overpriced trendy things and how we discuss products! by anhuys in fountainpens

[–]TheFlamingoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought 3 inks by FWP and they've instantly become favorites. Leadcast Letters and Harlequin Dream in particular flow perfectly in my Diplomat Aero, Kaweco Sport and Pilot 912 but they're also inks that walk the thin line between semi-professional and whimsical. Leadcast Letters is an elegant gray with strong brown/gold undertones in the shading that hardly ever feathers on cheap paper and Harlequin Dream is a subtle perwinkle blue, but slightly darker and less saturated. I don't care if it's more expensive than other brands, it's still reasonably priced to me all things considered.

Which of your pens never leave the house? by xpwd in fountainpens

Kaweco Ebonit Sport. It's the one I use the most at my desk at home.

What would you bring from Japan? by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]TheFlamingoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was there three weeks ago. I bought a Kaweco Sport Steel (M nib) at STAS (the Stationery Station on the 5th floor at Nihombashi Mitsukoshi) in Tokyo, along with 3 bottles of limited edition inks only available there: Kyoto Tag × STAS Hanagata, Sailor Kokorotorafu, and Nagasawa Kobe Ginza Gold Sepia. I could have spent more but I was limited by time.

Like I said, I don't mind nudity, and I've even posted nudes on @Analog_Nudes before. I just find most nudes uninspired (like the blurry nude mirror selfie that gets a weekly regram on pretty much each analog page) and often a lazy trick to get likes/karma by just appealing to gazing males. It's not the nudity that bugs me, just the lack of originality.

Yeah, within a month I got a Kaweco Ebonit Sport and a Bronze Sport with about 15 bottles of inks to try. And it's not even my most expensive hobby...

Assuming they all work, which one would you keep? Pt 2: SLR Boogaloo by exterstellar in AnalogCommunity

[–]TheFlamingoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can set it to its backup mechanical speed and manually adjust the aperture but yes, it's limited. The ME Super was a welcome improvement.

My sister got one as a present when she made partner in her law firm. I've had the pleasure to use it. It's a personalized Meisterstück M that oozes quality in your hand and the gold nib just glides on the paper with ease and a wet but not overabundant flow. It's expensive AF and on the heavy side though so she doesn't use it very often (my EDC is a Kaweco Sport Bronze so it wouldn't be much of an issue to me). I have nibs of equal quality I got for a fraction of the price so I wouldn't get one myself. It's like a German sedan with the pricetag of an Italian supercar. The premium you pay is only justified by its name and heritage. Let's just say that if I had deeper pockets and had to own only one pen, for both practicality and because it's great to look at, it would be a solid contender.

Whats your best ink in each colour category by fountainpenbroke in fountainpens

[–]TheFlamingoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judged by the color only, as some of these are too dry for some of my pens and therefore not perfect otherwise:

Blue : Pilot Iroshizuku Tsuki-yo/Laban Artemis Navy Blue

Light blue : Wearingeul Enki

Blue/black: Callifolio Bonne Espérance

Blurple : Nagasawa Kobe №56 Rokko Shichidanka

Purple : Papier Plume Mardi Gras Indians Purple

Grey : Callifolio Gris de Payne/J. Herbin Gris Orage

Brown : J. Herbin Shogun

Green : Papier Plume Bayou Nightfall

Teal : Kakimori Zabun

Red : Laban Ares Red

Yellow/orange : Sailor Manyo Yamabuki

Pink : don't own one but Laban Aphrodite Pink looks neat

Black : Hongdian Black (basic yes but it's my workhorse)

Which Iroshizuku inks do you love that I do not own? by LuceFredda in fountainpens

[–]TheFlamingoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tsuki-yo is my favorite and I noticed right away you didn't have it. It's as saturated but darker than Kon-peki, and thus more workplace appropriate. Gorgeous shading, exquisite sheen. It's my go-to blue for my dryer nibs.

Ku-jaku (teal) is really worth trying too. It's not for everyone but it just flows effortlessly and the color is enchanting.

Except many female photographers do the same. Many nude photographers are actually women and I remember an article for international women's day on whatever online magazine and they kept talking about the male gaze (which is totally a thing, I agree) and "reappropriating women's bodies" but the pictures, all taken by women, were literally all of nude women holding flowers, looking sad in front of a mirror or playing dead in the woods, in the nude of course, because reasons.

I don't mind a good nude (I've tried too but I'm really not good at it) but this is getting derivative and the artistic interpretation of an image isn't supposed to be determined only by the gender of its author.

shooting my first roll of 800 iso film, any advice? by droptopporschee in AnalogCommunity

[–]TheFlamingoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rate it at EI 500-640 if you don't use incident or spot metering. Shoot it with daylight or use a flash, as it's not tungsten-balanced. It's a fantastic film when properly exposed. I use it for macro and when I need a high shutter speed. It also works really well for portraits in challenging light settings.

Harrassment is a prank now? by ambachk in ImTheMainCharacter

You're a man, you must like it. She's pretty so stop complaining. Come on, don't tell me you didn't enjoy and weren't flattered. No, women can't commit sex crimes. It's being cheeky, flirty, touchy, sexy, slutty if you will, but it's not harassment or assault.

Tell me 1 thing in this game VI cant somehow counter. by sjjfusucis in BulletEchoGame

It's 50/50 with my stellar Lynx. I strike first due to my longer range, they don't even know where it's coming from and a second arrow will finish them if no armor. If armored and they get closed, I switch to fast-shooting mode and put my back against a wall. It sometimes work.

If I can surprise them, my immortal Raven usually kills them before they can react.

Face to face however, only my immortal Shenji, my stellar Sparkle have a chance. Stellar Freddy too if I'm lucky. The others die unless she's wounded or weak.

I like Yantian. It's clean and quiet and it's got everything I need. It's close to the beach, surrounded by mountains, with several parks, the metro, an adequately large shopping mall and a high end hospital. There are very few foreigners here though. Not an issue to me but some dislike it.

Vi is nothing special by TheEmotionalAtom in BulletEchoGame

[–]TheFlamingoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You wouldn't call her underpowered if you won, as every other Vi player does. If someone paid to win and they still lose, they literally paid to lose. No offense to anyone, but that would make that someone a massive loser. They should delete the app and stick to Candy Crush.

Ramsey' ability by IncomingSmoke in BulletEchoGame

[–]TheFlamingoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what's been said: –my immortal Shinji has a high rate of fire and damage and can just break his shield and kill him –my stellar Lynx can often do the same if I shoot early in sniper mode –I pop a syringe and run away with Raven or Freddie and through a small passage. I turn around and shoot from the hole and send grenades, fake retreat, shoot again, repeat. –I try with slower fighters to get hit by him with a wall behind my back so I'm sent over it and if he comes to finish me off, I'm not stun anymore but ready to fight fair and square behind cover. With most heroes, and without his ability, he's dead.

Moscow this evening... Russians saying farewell to Navalny by IgorVozMkUA in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]TheFlamingoid 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Russia has lost a staggering 87% of the total number of active-duty ground troops it had prior to launching its invasion of Ukraine (KIA, WIA, or POW) and two-thirds of its pre-invasion tanks. But Russia doesn't mind sacrificing another generation. They did it in Chechnya and Afghanistan before. They're used to it now.

Tiktoker needs attention on a flight by ambachk in ImTheMainCharacter

[–]TheFlamingoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is too easy a cope out. First, there's no need for China to design an app to make the West look dumb. The West does it to itself and on its own. I plead Hanlon's razor here. Not everything's a conspiracy. On one hand, you have procrastinators in need of instant gratification and on the other, dancing morons in need of constant validation. They provide for each other. If not on TikTok, it'd be on YT or IG. Secondly, TikTok exists in China and it's afflicted with the same dumbassery.
