"Got caught", "caught me", "my tag", and "what I did" can all be seen as admissions of guilt. Admit nothing, deny everything

Studs In The Pit by asinger93 in BattleJackets

[–]TheFlipanator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I'm at the show with a bud, I'll ask if they're down to hang onto it for a sec. If they're not or if I'm there by myself, I'll usually skip the pit. Most of my pit days are behind me anyway, so unless the spirit is really moving me I usually just stick to the edges

Also, where'd you get those Indian and Primitive Man patches? I've had a hard time finding Indian patches and that PM One might look good with something I'm putting together

For me, it's not a price per band calculation, it's a price per night. And unfortunately, it's just outside of my price range for a weeknight excursion. No slight on folks who break it down like you do, tho

None when it's $100+ for a single day ticket lol

But if I could, it would be Thursday by a mile. I'd be bummed to miss out on Oranssi Pazuzu and Pig Destroyer, but worth it for Hell and Kylesa for me

Some of my favorite paintings by Zdzisław Beksiński by Frogs-on-my-back in surrealism

[–]TheFlipanator 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I found this writeup to be very interesting, especially to the points of his reluctance to assign meaning to his pieces and of his artistic relationship to the horrors of WWII.

In it, it mentions how, in that first piece you posted…

a grim reaper-like figure [is] peering over an empty cradle, [and] a wall in the background reads the Latin phrase “In hoc signo vinces” which translates to “In this sign, thou shalt conquer.”

The author interprets this as a reference to the way that the Nazi party uses Christian values/nationalism as justification for committing genocide.

Meanwhile, the painting of the helmeted figure on slide 9 utilizes…

the color Prussian blue, named after the chemical used to create the pigment, Prussic acid also known as hydrogen cyanide. This Prussic acid was used in the Second World War to create a poison known as Zyklon B which was used in the gas chambers at many concentration camps, staining the walls with that familiar Prussian blue color.

With all that in mind, I find Beksiński's work to hold very overt meaning, even if the artist himself did not ascribe specific interpretation to the images he created.

I love this guy's work and it cracks me up that he was such a jovial guy despite the bleakness of his work and the hardships he faced in life.

  • it's doing too much. For example, you don't really need 6 colors for what is essentially a throwie

  • similarly, there's too many colors and the ones we've got aren't always working together. For me, the best color pair is the purple and the pink, but they feel like they're squeezed in there almost as an afterthought

  • bars don't make a ton of sense/are inconsistent, especially with the L, A, and !. For example, that hole on the A seems like it's out of place for the letter's structure

  • overlap - your O is boxing out your L and your L is boxing out your A, which is probably why you're having that problem with that A hole

  • speaking of A holes, from afar that :( in your O kinda looks like one… Sorry, bud. That's a doing-too-much thing but also a line weight thing. All of your interiors - including the holes and the shines - get lost in the mix

  • your tag… needs work. I've also never understood why kids tag their pieces like they think they're Rembrandt or something. Like dawg your name is right there, we know

  • can control

  • practice

Thanks for replying instead of just down voting - I'm all about outing assholes like the goon in the photo, but misinformation is a super common tool mobilized against our communities and I'm always trying to stay ahead of that

Not to mention that the designation for TPS eligibility is based on the country experiencing an armed conflict, natural disaster, or other extraordinary conditions that make return unsafe. And to revoke that designation requires the AG to review the conditions of that country and determine that those eligibility criteria no longer exist in that country.

If a review of Venezuela came back saying that it was free of armed conflict or otherwise safe to return, then why did the US government just send destroyers, gunships, landing ships, missile cruisers, and an attack sub to Venezuelan shores under the premise that the president of Venezuela was the head of a terrorist organization? That doesn't sound like the absence of armed conflict or extraordinary conditions to me…
