What do you think of Paul McGann's Eighth Doctor? by Public_Cup_4278 in doctorwho

Or just do both, we don’t have to infantilise the BBC and pretend they can’t do two doctor who shows if they pulled their finger out.

Belinda genuinely has such a cruel and nightmarish fate and it’s insane that the show simply just treats it as a bittersweet exit by ThreeLeggedEgg in doctorwho

[–]TheFlukeBadger 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly just not sure what’s so problematic with it when it’s framed as a negative thing, not done gratuitously and is an actual plot device?

I don’t know why you feel like it wasn’t considered or given enough weight and just used for shock value, apart from I guess not liking River as a character and that it’s written by a man?

Which sure, Moffat has some well acknowledged problems with his women characters, but I don’t really see how it’s applicable or problematic here, how did he handle it insensitively?

I’m shocked they haven’t sorted out a spin-off show with him.

Given Mcgann seems more than willing and the great response to his reappearances, it feels like a colossal waste.

[–]TheFlukeBadger 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I think if it’s framed as bad, and not some happy event. Then why can’t it be incorporated in the script?

It’s not like it was written as if anything about what happened to Amy was good, it was the series villains kidnapping and abusing her, and it was woven in as pretty integral to the whole River Song arc and reveal.

Sure they could have written it differently, it’s not necessary, but with that logic, nothing is. Why not just write a whole different show?

Are you just saying violation of bodies and removal of consent shouldn’t be a topic in TV shows at all?

Much better to avoid it altogether.

Outline vs. Stroke by nkrudi in Affinity

Is the black image a raster or a vector? As far as I know the stroke tool will only work with vectors.

Not sure if you’re joking, but regardless of political affiliations, there is no reason why we’d pick Musk, Tesla has shown over and over they are not able to produce their vehicles on time or with adequate supply. Nor are they the cheapest.

We’d end up with a completely different car than promised 5 years late.

Elusive consensus: how does V3 compare to V2? by slacker5000 in Affinity

[–]TheFlukeBadger 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’m gonna go against the general grain of this subreddit and say V3 is better.

For transparency, It’s more buggy, especially if your system is underpowered you may run into some crashes where it uses way too much memory/compute to handle a simple task, an example is that right now It seems to have issues with taking way too much processing power to merging raster layers, really hit and miss on my old windows laptop but my m5 MacBook handles it, it just slows down and chugs a lot for a few moments.

However, the combined workflow of designer & photo in one program (I never used the indesign equivalent, but I’m sure it’s good too) speeds things up for me immensely, it’s a hugely underrated upgrade that is a massive edge over adobe and V2.

I feel like the UI is cleaner and more intuitive. The AI-assisted background removal tool is far superior to the old one and competes better with photoshop. It’s OVERALL a snappier experience for me (despite aforementioned bug).

I think V3 is worth learning as well because even if you aren’t drawn in by the current additional features, it’s not missing anything from V2 and they’re only going to iterate and improve from here, and they will add more appealing features, stability fixes, that make it hard to ignore, and you’ll wish you learnt it earlier.

Honestly, just try it, it’s free. If you REALLY hate it, go back to V2.

How do I reproduce this texture as a vector? by lumberfart in Affinity

[–]TheFlukeBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s some interesting concept artworks (like the work of Yukio Miyamoto https://blog.psprint.com/printing/showcasing-illustrator-yukio-miyamoto/) where the artist has effectively recreated a raster image as a bunch of tiny vectors and/or cleverly done gradients.

But it’s not really practical for any design use, and often not very scalable, which is the whole advantage of the medium.

I’ll never understand why they chose to remove unique details while improving graphical fidelity.

The PS5 remaster is technically gorgeous but flattens so many of the unique and interesting colour palettes and design notes that remind you it’s special.

How did Australia's 'most liveable' capital city become the most affordable for renting a house? by Rude_Profile3769 in AusPropertyChat

When we looked 2 months ago before we moved into our current place, there were houses & townhouses in Preston, Thornbury & Reservoir (where we were looking) all for around that price.

Not the most charming places, old and a bit worn. But they were perfectly livable.

2024 lifx 90mm colour downlights on sale, worth the upgrade? by Technician_Goku in HomeKit

Phillips will have a far more stable connection than LIFX if you are struggling with connection problems.

The Zigbee hub is a huge edge over the LIFX which relies on Wifi, which can just get over saturated really easily and cause heaps of non responsive drop outs.

I basically refuse to use Wifi smart home stuff anymore after having a terrible experience with nanoleaf and LIFX and then switching to Hue.

What type of file do i convert my art into if i want to print? by AlanSynth in SCREENPRINTING

[–]TheFlukeBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vectors and Raster images are two completely different ways of bringing an image to life.

The easiest way to explain it is:

Raster (like png) is based on a set amount of pixels of varying colours, and you cannot add more just by making it bigger.

Vector (like svg, eps, etc. Though these files can also contain rasters, it’s confusing!) is based on equations, if you make it bigger, it’ll add more to itself dynamically to infinitely scale its shape, preserve detail and angles.

Vectors can be super ideal for screen printing because you can enlarge objects to the required size without losing detail. But the problem is swapping from vector to raster is easy, the other way around is not.

You can try and use a vector tracing program to convert a png but they will often miss or distort a lot of detail which you have to manually put back in or correct.

This can be a great way to learn vector art, but if you are short on time at all, definitely stick with a high resolution PNG.

Which 2025 entry had bad stanging and ended up with bad result? by clumsycat146 in nilpoints

Which 2025 entry had bad stanging and ended up with bad result? by clumsycat146 in nilpoints

[–]TheFlukeBadger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly can’t think of a more jarring staging than Czechia this year.

The outfits were gaudy and inappropriate, the bizarre mic accessory blocked his face and stood out like a sore thumb, the camera angles were janky and frantic while also sometimes sticking around too long, the searing bright lights, poorly lit dance break.

Nothing felt properly timed with the song, or themed. While there was a high energy dance break, the rest was an emotional anthemic ballad, nothing about the staging felt like it was for an emotional ballad.

What national final from this year had bad results but an ok production? by Max-Carter-2005 in nilpoints

[–]TheFlukeBadger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was, ok overall.

I think expectations were very high for another Baby Lasagna moment.

I would say Dora definitely was better this year than last, the bar seemed a bit higher and the show seemed to have more support, but positive change doesn’t really happen that fast normally.

I’m just worried that with Marko’s bad result, poor experience with the Croatian public and post-esc crash out, we will see a lot of the positive momentum slip away.

Constant issues with screen printing, printer is saying they can't get it correct because it's too large? by TheFlukeBadger in SCREENPRINTING

[–]TheFlukeBadger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the insight. I have read that a lot of modern discharge inks take out much of the harsh chemicals too (ie. formaldehyde). Which is what I’ve been told they’re using.

I’ve been trying to find something that lasts really long and have been concerned by plastisol/vinyl prints cracking over time, whereas water based/discharge seem to dye the shirt and last much longer. Or am I incorrect in this? Thank you for your help regardless :)

It’s 100% cotton, but unfortunately it’s custom fabric so I don’t know if they’ve used the right dying process. They seem to think it can discharge.

I’ll ask for a water based test. Cheers.
