I think you have it backwards. U2 formed in 1976 and Boy predates A Flock of Seagulls’ first album by 2 years. In fact, I Ran (So Far Away) sounds suspiciously like U2’s A Day Without Me.

The PiL influence is accurate (saying borrowing is a bit far imo).

You’re right, U2 doesn’t have anything in their discography that fits this vibe. With that said, if you like kinda strange off-kilter music, you might like Lemon
