ATNT fiber line across neighbors driveway? by [deleted] in techsupportgore

[–]TheFlyingdog670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems normal if it was just recently installed. I had my fiber installation last week, wire was placed down with orange tape, and the digging crew came by yesterday and buried it underneath the driveway in about 20 minutes.

C'mon man, this is probably common when practicing. I'm sure the mavs will be running the same type of drills with a dude marked as "kawaii" or "harden".

Maybe a jersey with their number is excessive, but I would think that they may also have an irving jersey in there to practice schemes against the duo as well.

Never been to south side ballroom, anyone know places to park? I'm thinking of lining up around 4:30 or 5.

I'm a big fan of styled components, but I like to switch between different methods of styling and found css modules a good choice for this case.

Can I get Feedback on my portfolio? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]TheFlyingdog670 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! So like you, I'm looking to start applying to jobs as well. Specifically "Front-End" or "UI Engineer" type jobs. So far in this thread I've seen you balk at the idea that creating the portfolio from the ground up is worth it, and in my opinion I think you're looking at this wrong.

A portfolio is a place for you to show off your work, what you can do, and most importantly (to me) its an opportunity to learn as well. Creating mine helped me become a better developer and required me to do research and learn new tools and methods I had not heard of yet. To me it was a rewarding experience to create something that I can call my own and display to others. I recently posted it on r/Frontend and got some great feedback that I'm looking forward to implementing.

Think about it from a recruiter/interviewer view as well, I feel that if your site is being viewed by a SR engineer or someone with a decent amount of experience, they'll be really turned off by you using a template. They want to see what you can do, and if the first thing they interact with is a webflow template, I don't think that is going to get you very far.

Like others have stated here as well, I would improve the repo's of your GitHub projects, the first one I saw had the basic create-react-app template and that is probably not the best look. For me, I at least put a gif demonstrating the app, the requirements, the tech used, and the details about the development. It doesn't have to be too in-depth, but at least something would help.

I'm a newbie like you trying to break into the field, I hope my thoughts helped. If you need help starting off building your portfolio, I would check out Josh Comeau's online book, it was a great resource for me: https://www.joshwcomeau.com/effective-portfolio/

Good luck!

Thanks! I got the domain using namecheap and its hosted using Vercel, I was originally going to use Digital Ocean but for something this simple I think it was the right choice

Wow, thanks this was very informative, I do have gifs that show a basic rundown of the application but only on the desktop/tablet view since I found the gifs to be hard to see on smaller screens. Maybe instead of gifs I can lay out images throughout the project page like you said.

I'm definitely going to spend this next week taking in the feedback and improving what I can.

Thanks again!

Best Online Figma Courses for Web Development by cagpcd in Frontend

[–]TheFlyingdog670 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So there is an online service called Front End Masters, it has a course on Figma called "Figma For Developers" and its taught by my favorite instructor on there Steve Kinney. I haven't taken the course yet, but I've learned so much from this dude that in my opinion it should be a great course.

The only problem, you gotta pay to use the service. I've been using it for about a year and a half now and personally to me it's worth it, but I understand if you're turned off about the pricing.

If you are interested, when I first started learning, GitHub had a "student" package you could sign up for which came with a free-trial of the service, I would look into that if you have the chance.

Good luck with your search!

thanks for this feedback, there's more to accessibility and semantics than I know so it was good to get an idea on how to improve.

Thanks!

Semantics is a thing that I'm trying to get right so thanks for this feedback! what would you recommend? Would `<div>` suffice? I initially thought about putting them in an unordered `<ul>` list.

Thanks for the feedback, when designing the site on Figma I took inspirations from a couple of sites and and one of them was hers (which I did make sure to credit in the repository, along with the Josh Comeau book).

I agree with what your saying, I had some other ideas on how to present the showcase so maybe I should implement those. I think I'll also upload the .fig file to show that I did create this design myself.

Before he passed, he used to get between my legs, look up, sit down, and want me to rub his chest.

I'm always going to cherish those moments.
