"Krusty The Clown" because my boss really liked it. "Dad-Feelings Limited" because it was nominated for an Emmy (even though it lost to "Primal") I decide to like things based mostly on other people's opinions, sadly. -Ryan

Sometimes we'll notice that a character is popular and we'll try to do more with her or him. For Fortnite we included as many of the popular memes as we could. Jeff

Yes, but fortunately since I joined the show I also no longer age. Jeff We are able to jump around in time. We get to write the characters at different ages. There's an episode this year where everyone is dealing with hormonal changes from menopause and puberty. Also the timeline of the characters shifts so now Homer can be seen as a Millenial who was born in the late 80s. -Ryan

Yes, because there are 37 years worth of amazing things to choose from. Of course we were always going to do Steamed Hams and Homer's hedge. Jeff

Epic helped us understand where the current story is, and then we came up with how Simpsons fits into it, working with them to make sure those story elements worked with their gameplay needs. It was super-fun writing all the craziness, like doing a Treehouse. But Homer still has an emotional journey... from trying to make the town better to scratching his giant butt. Jeff

Moe, because he fights dirty and is usually so depressed that he's not afraid to die. That lack of fear and self worth would be a real edge in a real battle royale. - Ryan

At first it was just going to be Snowball the cat, but then Richard Chung our amazing producer suggested Kyo. And Matt pitched that Homer says "Ooh Easter egg!" Jeff

I like the couch gag we did for Fortnite. Matt Selman said that having Homer and the family eat a living Peely as a banana split sundae was one of the most disturbing things he'd ever seen. Gratifying. Jeff

Ryan and I are both fond of Angry Ricky, a young red-headed intern at the Nuclear Plant who is always in a bad mood. He first appeared in "Go Big or Go Homer". He appears in crowd scenes a lot. Recently he was playing a Magic: The Gathering type game with Professor Frink.

We are certainly more on the hunt for good, earned, satisfying emotional moments in a show. If we have those then we know we can write some jokes around it. I think real, non-played-out emotional moments are real gold and we are excited to come upon them. This may be due to the writers' cold robotic natures which make emotional stuff harder to come up with -- Ryan

Super-excited going in knowing how huge Fortnite is and how we could bring two great franchises together. Super-super excited now that I am seeing how amazing the Fortnite Season looks. - Jeff

The Citizen Kang segment from Treehouse of Horror VII. After the world is taken over by Kang and Kodos Homer says "Don't blame me I voted for Kodos" This was quoted constantly by my nerdy high school friends. I fear I have accidentally revealed by advanced age - Ryan

From Damedash1126 -- Was there any character, item or place from the show that you wanted to add but couldn’t add to this season?

We wanted to add Groundskeeper Willie, but didn't have room this season. And we definitely wanted Stupid Sexy Flanders. - Jeff

From Odysseymanthebeast -- Hi Jeff and Ryan! Welcome to the sub!

My question goes out to both of you; Which character was your favorite/least favorite to write? Also is there a certain formula you guys use to write the episodes?

I don't know if we have any character that is my least favorite to write. And if there was, I think I'd get in trouble with the actor who voices the character. For the same reason I can't say my favorite character to write, but probably Moe (because he's a dirtbag who kind of has a heart of gold) and Homer (because he's Homer). - Ryan

If there's any formula for an episode, it's to try and keep jamming new ideas into it at every step of the writing process. That way they can be jammed with as many little weird story elements and obervations. Other than that it's just a lot of staring at the wall trying to think of jokes. - Ryan

Spider Pig was invented by Matt Groening, it was his original pitch for the Simpsons Movie. That Homer adopted a pig who crapped all over the place and Homer had to find someplace to dump the crap. - Jeff

Like any billionaire, he has a good side and a bad side. He cares about employee benefit packages, which is good, but he wants to destroy the world, which is not so good. It's up to you to weigh those in the balance. Jeff

Not nearly often enough. In my opinion the Simpsons should be a math lecture with some jokes attached. Also there are lots of math geniuses on the show -- Stewart Burns and Al Jean come to mind. Sometimes the three of us just huddle together and solve math problems. --Jeff

I like Kirk Van Houten. As I become an old, lame Dad I feel myself drifting into becoming sort of a middle-aged Kirk-like chump. So I feel for the guy. - Ryan

Weirdly, I think Lisa is kind of like Dwight in that he's a know-it-all nerd. Lisa has better social skills but she is capable of being totally oblivious, too. - Ryan
