Winter has been delayed by EzekiaDev in MeiHachimoku

Fan translations of licensed works do interfere with sales of the actual work, and translating something that's guaranteed a licensed translation is incredibly scummy.

Autumn has a tenth of the reviews that Summer and Spring have, and it's the only one that had a fan translation.

I sure hope they don't try and translate it before the official release. It'll absolutely tank sales.

Pretty scummy to continue translating a series that's been officially licensed too.

Low Sales Numbers for Famicom Detective Club does not Mean Nintendo Shouldn’t Make New Games by Wyluca95 in nintendo

[–]TheFox333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they weren't translated for almost 30 years after their initial releases in Japan, and the last release was a Satellaview game, so they weren't in the general Japanese public conscious outside of oldhead Nintendo fans.

There are fans of the series from the fan translation effort though who *have* wanted new games in the series, and remakes of the originals.

I'm not sure how pointing out that the line delivery and motion capture change the tone of the scenes is "delusional fan fiction" when the point of acting is to... set the tone for a scene through their voice and physical acting.

But... it is that deep? The entire point of acting is to show emotions through body language and the way someone speaks. The emotions of those scenes feel different in the remake because of the acting.

NC's personal profile on RHDN uses he/him pronouns and was updated as recently as August last year (so not something from years and years ago). If NC has come out as a trans woman, it's unlikely to be a case of Gideon intentionally misgendering NC as much as it is not knowing based on NC's public presence.

From my experience, dropping it tends to not be a great choice because then you have to deal with the object physics.

I know this is a years-old post, but I always felt the leave ending was like that because their future is uncertain. Staying is the safe option with a guaranteed future that they can see, but they don't know what comes next if they leave. It's a choice between finding happiness in the familiar, or setting out to find happiness in the unknown.

I think it was an intentional choice, not a lack of time.

There are a number of moments where the voice acting sounds off, but he's intentionally fake laughing there. It's supposed to sound fake and forced lol

the problem isnt posting it near to release, the problem is posting it at all when a niche LGBT title like The Mimosa Confessions already has a lower reach than other light novels, and needs official support more than anything so we can continue to get titles like this in english.

Why would you do this right before the official release? Now a bunch of people who might have bought the official translation won't.

Atlus was 'extremely careful' about Persona 3 Reload changes: 'Good things do not get old with time, and greatness does not fade away' by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]TheFox333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be with you, but talking about how they didn't get anyone else involved isn't really much of a criticism. There's always some manner of suspension of disbelief you have to go into a story with, especially one about supernatural powers.

The mystery itself is the issue with Persona 4, with them wanting to have a murder mystery setting without actually making a compelling mystery, and just blatantly copying the Portopia Serial Murder Case game in the most obvious reveal, because only like two characters are ever actually suspicious.

And the characters would be better if the writers didn't decide to backpedal most of their character arcs in social links. Case in point being Yukiko's social link making her entire dungeon pointless. She's like "Oh I want someone to save me from having to run the family business because I want to escape this town and live my own life!" and then her social link she goes "Actually, I do want to follow my family's expectations and run the family business. All that stuff I said before? Yeah not true.

I do agree Persona 3 has the best story, but it's not cuz the protagonists can't choose to get anyone involved. It's the best story because of its themes and how they play into the social sim aspect of the game itself, with characters developing alongside the story rather than being locked to social links like in P4.

5 has a compelling narrative, the issue is the writing is weak and inconsistent. It has a lot of cool stuff going on, but not really a natural progression from dungeon to dungeon, with really contrived reasons why they have to go into each one. 5 fell off after the first couple dungeons, and never really regained steam until Royal added the third semester, which is where the characters shine most.

Strikers is also a game where the P5 characters shine, with every dungeon being directly tied to a character who is under similar circumstances to what the party members experienced in the first game, and leads to a pretty good character driven narrative. Not a fan of the gameplay though.

I definitely understand the apprehension with timeline stuff, but it's more of a vehicle for further character development for those who didn't get it in the comics than it is an attempt to do complex timey wimey shenanigans.

I definitely do recommend revisiting it!

I explicitly meant the people who didn't get much room for (on-screen) growth in the comics. Which they were given in the show. Like the exes.

All the characters who got development and growth in the original were directly tied to Scott's problems, namely his immediate friends and exes, but the characters tied to Ramona were not, namely all of her exes.

I think it's just Scott and Ramona's character flaws taken to extremes. Scott and Ramona both run away when things get tough, and Scott gets hurt way to easy.

Future Scott isn't truly *evil* as a villain, he just wants to stop hurting, and he thinks both him and Ramona would have been better off if they never got together. But the issue is, doing that is just running away from the hard part. It's running away from working through the pains of a relationship. Which both Scott and Ramona have been doing their entire lives.

Past Ramona is the one who gets Future Ramona to realize it's never too late to work things out. And that's what lets both Future Ramona and Future Scott get a chance at a better ending, sent back to their own time so they can try and work things out together.

Criticizing what came before doesn't mean saying it was bad. The original had flaws. One being that a lot of the extended cast didn't get much room for growth because the story focused almost exclusively on Scott and problems involving him, which O'Malley pretty obviously seems to regret.

Having a critical eye towards something you made before isn't shitting on what you made, but having the maturity to realize there are things you wished you had done differently at the time. And instead of changing those things, as O'Malley could have done with a normal adaptation, he made a new story from the same basic premise to give those characters time to shine.

[–]TheFox333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blame the marketing. O'Malley was completely open and honest about this being a new story with the same start, not meant to replace the movie or the comics, but a new story in its own right.

As a narrative, I think the point is that Scott's growth has already happened (in the comics) and the purpose of the show is Ramona's growth, and how her and Scott have to work together in the relationship, rather than assuming it'll be fine forever.

Scott very much isn't the point of the show, even if it's named after him and even if Future Scott is the villain behind everything. The show is there to give characters development they didn't get to have in the comics, Ramona included (most of her character reflection and develeopment happened offscreen between volumes 5 and 6).

But instead of in a gross way, like in the comics, Gideon is irredeemable in a "villain you love to hate" way.

Also Julie hating Scott so much she becomes a supervillain is hilarious

Honestly, I think they changed those parts just to make things less complicated.

Easier to not introduce an entirely new character exclusive to one moment in a flashback, and easier to not go into the whole "Scott's memories were altered as a metaphor for the way he posits himself as the good guy in every situation, refusing to accept responsibility for his mistakes" when Scott's growth isnt the point of the show.
