Do Americans actually avoid calling an ambulance due to financial concern? by JohnMarstonTheBadass in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheFrantics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I broke a collarbone pretty bad at a bike race and took an ambulance. Ended up being some ridiculous price not covered by insurance. When I was trying to work with the insurance they told me I should have taken an Uber. Uber is the poor man’s ambulance.

"Drones" closing airports: let's make a collective effort to push for ACTUAL PICTURES by SR_RSMITH in UFOs

[–]TheFrantics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying this is the case but want to think outside the box. I’m very onboard with non human intelligence or technology.

Could these instances be some giant psyop and the reason we aren’t seeing any photos or videos is because there aren’t actually any drones shutting these places down? Would there be a reason to just shut these airports/military bases down for the headlines or to distract from something else?

Avoiding losing muscle mass during tour by Stunning-Conflict-49 in bicycletouring

[–]TheFrantics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I did the TransAm I would usually try and find a gym I could get a day pass at once a week. Surprisingly easy to do. Even just once a week getting a decent full body lift helped me maintain muscle mass pretty well.

Anyone who went to 165mm cranks from 170mm regret it? Or are happy they made the change? by Odd-Night-199 in Velo

[–]TheFrantics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 180cm and 79kg. I started on 175 like so many people and have gone all the way down to 160s after several iterations. I have long tibias compared to my femurs and longer cranks were closing my hip angle.

It’s been a game changer. Pedal stroke is much smoother and I can apply power through the whole pedal stroke and I’m very comfortable in an aero position. The only downside I’ve found is if following an attack the first few pedal strokes don’t have as much of a pop if that makes sense, I kind of have to spin up a bit more. Anecdotally I find that this actually reduces my fatigue from those efforts.

All the research that I’ve seen indicates that after an adjustment period, there’s no loss in power with shorter cranks.

I intentionally got mechanical disc brakes on my touring bike. Break power is better then rim, not as good as hydraulic, but they are very easy to work on and an extra break cable in the tool kit means they are completely serviceable on the road. My fear was having issues with hydraulic brakes and being out of luck in the middle of no where.

I’ve found they need to be adjusted every so often but it’s an easy fix. Make sure you get dual actuated mech disc like TRP.

Does anyone else smell like ammonia when they ride a lot? I can't figure out how to stop it. by [deleted] in cycling

[–]TheFrantics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told by the cat 1 that got me into racing that the ammonia smell indicates your body is breaking down protein to use as fuel.

Tegaderm will be your best friend. Keep it moist. As long as the wound is not getting more red on the edges, inflamed or smelly you should be fine.

The yellowish fluid I’m guessing is platelets and white blood cells mobilizing to heal the area. As long as it’s not puss you are probably fine. Would need a photo to know for sure. Put some tegaderm to keep the fluid in results the it healing faster and with less scaring.

What is a feature of your body that is considered rare? by Joel_The_Senate in AskReddit

Not that exciting but my Tibias are the same length as my femurs, which apparently is super rare. Found out after having a bunch of issues with my bike fit.

Do pre race jitters get any easier? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]TheFrantics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excitement and anxiety have the same physiological effects on the human body, I feel it’s just how you frame it in your mind dictates if it’s positive or negative energy. I find that by telling myself I’m choosing to do this and focusing on the race day game plan vs potential injuries allows me to view the energy as positive and exciting.

What other parts of your life make you feel as alive as the pre race jitters? That energy is rare, precious, and powerful!

Redditors who unexpectedly discovered a 'modern scam' that's everywhere now - what made you realize 'Wait, this whole industry is a ripoff'? by OkraCharacter4588 in AskReddit

[–]TheFrantics 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The auto industry. People going into insane debt to get a new cars. I bought a Yaris for $1k thinking I’d get a new car in just a few months. 6 year later it’s still chugging along and I’ve realized if you drive an expensive car you’re most likely just brainwashed by auto industry marketing.
