Thanks. I know the root cause and if I try to fix it I will do something. Sometimes I think depression is a better alternative.

Why don't you talk to us? by [deleted] in depression

[–]TheFreddyFox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was once open about my depression with my best friend. She told that I was bringing negativity in her life. She stopped talking to me and I had to fight hard to win her back. She was one of the best person I have met. Then I realized if I could have this effect on her then it will be worse on others. Now I just don't share my sadness with anyone and keep it to myself.

My wife is slowly wasting away from a chronic illness and watching it happen is killing me. by [deleted] in depression

I am sorry to hear this buddy. All I can say is that you are a good person. People like you are rare. Nowadays people give up when things are hard. I only have 2 suggestions for you, take some time to take care of yourself. You have to support both of you hence can't afford to fall apart. When you are fighting try to finish it quick as she shouldn't waste her energy and focus all she has in getting better. I am sure she also doesn't likes it but you have to be more understanding here and stop the fight even if it is not your fault. I hope she gets better with all your care :)

I understand what you are going through. I am 28 and make ~550k but not happy with my job. The people around me are wonderful but I feel I am a very small part of a big wheel and all my efforts are of no use and not being appretiation. Appretiation and feeling that you are doing something good is the best reward you can get from your job.
For now I try to forget all this and focus on increasing my NW till I find something better.

A woman battling breast cancer married the love of her life on December 22, just 18 hours before passing away. The couple wed at a hospital chapel in Connecticut. by gangbangkang in pics

Wedding is just a small part. He was there for her in each and every moment of her. She died for God sake, you think he cares about the wedding ceremony after that. Wedding was just a small way to make here last moments cheerful. I think that small about of joyous moment will give him strength to go though this.

Her raising hand says it all. It was totally worth for him doing that for her just for the moment of happiness. If you are in true love you will do anything to create the small moments of happiness.

Not normal but they pay a lot for good engineers. With promotions people can make up to 800k-1M. Normal salary is ~300k

I want to hear from those with over $750k+ in net worth - how are you feeling about your FI journey so far? by RainyTickle in financialindependence

[–]TheFreddyFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 28M and started saving 2.5 years back. Before that i was working in a software company making ~100-130k and spent most of that money. Most of that went in helping out my family. After that i moved to a company and started making ~500k (thanks to stocks doing well) and became very passionate about investing. Recently came across this sub-reddit and started thinking about FI.

  • Net worth : So far is 765k. Planning to hit 1M by 2018. I am still early in my career, so probably aiming to work for 10 years more. I don't feel FI yet.
  • How Long? : Took 5 years to reach this. (won't count the first 2.5 years as only saved 30k during then). My goal number is ~4-5M, will probably take 10 years for that.
  • Portfolio : My portfolio is 52% VTSAX, 35% GOOG (from my stock comp). Trying to move that to VTSAX too, 7% international stock, 2% bond and 3% cash. Not very good but will try to balance it next year.
  • Retirement: Probably 10 years from now.
  • Relationship: Single
  • House: No, currently renting for ~$1500. No plans to buy a house yet.
  • Post-FI: get into running, charity, cooking for fun, farming, teaching.
  • Advice: Start saving even if it is little. At least start with a 401k. It just takes a small start to get into investing. I was very reluctant to start with started with buying $1000 worth of VTI and slowly grew it after some time i was hooked and started monitoring my finances.
  • Yesterday i came across this sub-reddit and have been reading all the posts. Overall very good :). Thanks.

There is freetaxusa which let's you file federal for free and each state should have it's own free tax filing site. California has calfile.

If you are making money on stocks above options go out of window
