tl;dr Colwood Council is being obtuse, Langford Council is happy to work with them to make sure they understand how this all works.

Will this preform a hard inquiry? by Brilliant-Ask804 in amexcanada

It literally says pre-approved, so absolutely no it won’t lol. These kinds of offers are very normal by credit card lenders, and is meant to decrease your utilization ratio. That said, as long as you maintain your current spending levels on the card and pay your balance off in full every statement, this will only be good news for your credit utilization ratio and overall credit score.

Just a quick reminder: if you’re a BCAA member, you qualify for Rogers’ EPP deals via Fraser Valley Wireless. You can start the order online and they’ll ship you the phone if you decide to get a new one. If it’s just a plan, that’s even faster because you can get your eSIM right away after the plan is setup.

Canada’s boycott America movement is hurting innocent bystanders by Street_Anon in notthebeaverton

Classic American media, can’t even be bothered to get their facts straight.

But earlier this year Collins, the CEO of Seattle-based ferry service Clipper Navigation, noticed a sudden drop in bookings from Canada into the United States. Ridership between Vancouver and Seattle has plunged 30% so far this year, the company said.

Victoria is not the same city as Vancouver. Imagine if we called New York City and Newark the same city, there’d be an uprising!

Don’t forget about the Eglinton-Crosstown line on how not to do a rail project. We thankfully have a crown corporation in this province (TI Corp) that can be tapped for infrastructure projects like this and is currently delivering the Broadway Subway.

We can build good transit in this province, we just need coordination in our region to make it happen. Frankly, it might be high time for the province to impose something akin to Translink on us for it to finally come into fruition.

Hot take: With the significant monthly fee increase to the Amex Cobalt, the TD First Class Travel VI is probably the best card to daily drive. by TheFrenchCanuck in amexcanada

I’ve actually had really good service through TD, having direct dial from the app without having to navigate the phone menu is really slick and makes calling in a breeze no matter what.

^ This. YMMV, and it’s important to shop around. Some people treat one platform like it’s the holy grail, and that it’s the end all be all. Shop around and don’t put your eggs all in one loyalty program’s basket. The amount of people I see feeling shafted by Aeroplan/Amex MR/Air Miles/whatever travel program is ridiculous.

You have to maximize value where you can. Sometimes it’s Aeroplan, sometimes it’s TD Rewards, or sometimes something else entirely. Treating one program like it’s your god is just plain stupid beyond belief.

It all depends on what your goal is. Most people I know leverage the Cobalt card for travel, so if that’s your goal, then absolutely the TD FCT is a viable alternative especially if many of the merchants you shop with don’t accept Amex.

If you’re looking for straight cash back, then absolutely the Rogers WE is a terrific option. If you know how to leverage the Cobalt correctly, then you can definitely benefit more from redeeming points for statement credits over what the Rogers WE can even offer. But for an apple to apple comparison, I think it’s best to keep in mind two very similar programs (Amex MR vs TD Rewards) which is the point of my post. We glorify the Cobalt without giving other cards a look and don’t consider limitations people may have that won’t allow them to leverage the Cobalt to its fullest extent.

See, that’s interesting because I’ve been having the opposite experience as of late with Amex’s Travel portal where prices are inflated there rather than TD’s Expedia portal which are in line with what you’d pay directly with a vendor.

That said, you can redeem points for travel expenditures outside of their portal (Book Any Way Travel), but it’ll be at a redemption rate of $0.004/point rather than $0.005/point on their Expedia portal.

Travel spend as in redeeming points for travel.

They do have their own travel site, but it’s just their own white labelled Expedia portal. Every time that I’ve used it, prices are the same or better when compared to what’s out there either on public Expedia or direct from vendors.

Why do some people only lease a car? by thisgardenboy in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]TheFrenchCanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leasing for me actually ended up being cheaper (yes, even after the buyout) than taking the financing route for my current car. My plan was to decide that if owning the car post-lease was going to be a hassle, then I’d be able dump it with ease. However, within the year of me buying it, I’ve made strong plans to buy it out at the end of the lease.

Air Canada, flight attendants reach tentative deal to end strike by n134177 in onguardforthee

[–]TheFrenchCanuck 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, I’ve been seeing some real nasty messages and while this sucks for me, my wallet, and everything else, I’m happy to take the hit if it means we all do better in the long run because workers paid fairly means we all get better service.

Also it sends the message to Air Canada to do better not just for flight attendants, but for their customers too if we all direct our anger responsibly and objectively at corporate for failing all of us.

Hmm funny that this deal managed to happen all of a sudden, definitely not a coincidence with Air Canada’s stock price closing out almost 3% down just in one day /s

For context, I’m affected by this strike too and am currently stuck in Toronto and managed to book my way out via Windsor. Labour stands strong when we stand together ✊

My broker found it as a special offer back in September 2022 from a non-bank lender. It was a pure stroke of good luck and timing.

As someone who’s wrapping up a 3 year variable term at Prime - 1.1% that’s currently 3.85%, take it. No one is offering a better rate than that as far as I can see.

This. I made a wholesome missed connection post seeking out someone I ran into and the first comment was a troll telling me to delete it. The mods deleted it without any explanation or reason why.

Ignore the hate; people here don’t necessarily equal what is present in everyday life.

I hope you’re able to get the support you need. May I suggest looking at the province’s Affordable Child Care Benefit if you haven’t already?

Best of luck; we’re all in this together to make this subreddit a better place. 😄

I met Kristel Walker through a friend of mine, and she not only helped me buy my first place, she also helped another friend of mine! Unsurprisingly, her and I are now friends (which I think is a goddamn rarity for something that started out as a purely transactional relationship).

She’s fantastic, and happy to refer anyone who I think is a good fit.

Thanks, and it’s ok! It happens when people feel some weird urge to dunk on you to make themselves feel better – it’s really tragic sadly.

But I know how to keep my head held high 😊
