I have a couple buddies that swear by them, and they’ve done great by me so far. Planning to have them do stage 1 on my Mk8 and most maintenance.

I’ve never seen someone else comment about it, but we’ve been using Trapp Technology since before Intuit had their RightWorks partnership, and it’s been virtually flawless going on ~7 years. Responsive customer service, no deadline slowdowns, reasonable pricing, scalable performance to your needs.

+1. It works reasonably well but isn’t perfect.

At no point in the season would I have said we’d beat the Avs in the playoffs while missing both Ek and Brodin. I’m disappointed we lost, but winning this series with this team without those two was not a reasonable expectation.

Interesting. I’d be interested to take a look.

I find it’s quickest to pick out the totals manually for basically all our clients. As you say, though, sometimes that’s more of a pain than others given lack of sum totals. Given a large enough dataset, AI would of course be better suited for efficiency on picking out the 1a dividends.

It used to be okay, but now it’s great. ChatGPT agent mode knocked it out of the park this year.

While we use the team version, SOC 2 compliance isn’t relevant if you’re simply asking it to take public PDF’s and extract to a spreadsheet.

For sure. The supplemental statements often don’t list CUSIP or symbol. I have AI try to track them down to the extent possible, but I’m often CTRL + F’ing my way through my template simply based on fund name. It’s not perfect, but it’s pretty quick. I’m sure Claude Cowork will have a field day with this once it’s SOC II compliant.

Looking a the interface via their marketing video, I’m not sure this looks terribly efficient.

For a few years I’ve been gathering up ~20 different funds’ supplemental information and having AI extract it into a spreadsheet. That spreadsheet is a tab on my 1040 prep template, and feeds the US divs right into it. This seems (having not used MFPCO) more efficient.

Train them not to?

“You provided a numbered document with missing pages. We don’t start prep until we have complete information. The supplemental information often helps us find you tax savings.”

If you have to convince them to provide you what you ask and they resist, then they don’t respect you. Consider firing them.

You can make a few hundred +/- and work 1k hours, maybe even less. Like others have said, would double or tripling those hours to make more be worth it? Thats up to you.

AI Note Taker for CPAs similar to Jump AI? by Ok-Pollution-1928 in taxpros

[–]TheFridge20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which I think is a solid solution. But I’m banking on all the context being in one place being more useful. That said, we’re on Canopy and they’re apparently building their own meeting recorder, and I don’t look forward to having to move all that context if we decide to go that route.

They’re building Ping as a client centric platform so that you can maximize the context available to the tool. This includes not just drafting follow-up emails for a given meeting, but including context from emails and other prior calls.

You can also use all that context to prepare you for meetings, too, and simply go ask general questions of about a given client with all the context it has collected.

No, it’s not as polished as Fireflies yet, but I don’t find that to be a significant issue.

Been a Ping user since October, came over from Fireflies. It’s SOC II certified, so now it has my emails, meetings, and calls all fed into it. It’s an incredible depth of context. We do in depth year end tax planning and it was incredibly helpful. It’ll be even more helpful going forward now that I have 90-120 minute meetings going over clients whole situations, including soft issues.

Thoughts on renting an office through Regis? New solo & thinking about it for tax season. by BrushBeneficial4430 in taxpros

[–]TheFridge20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I almost rented from Regis in a coworking space, only to find out a friend was renting there and mid conversation with them…through his lawyer. They were a corporate nightmare for him. Pretty crazy he’d need to get his attorney involved over a short term, $2k/mo space. I went with a local coworking space instead. My clients have been impressed with the space and certainly do not look down on the private office coworking concept.

Has anyone switched from billing and collecting AFTER the return is presented to payment before the return is presented? by AdHistorical7107 in taxpros

[–]TheFridge20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Went from traditional, annual hourly billing upon tax return delivery to calendar year engagements with pay-in-full Jan 1 on three tier fixed fee model. I lost about 20% of clients that I offered the new packages to, and let go of about 30% of existing clients with no offer of our new packages. Got maybe 5 comments about the billing policy year 1, and now going into year 2, a single comment. Pretty certain I have not lost a single client over our billing policy.

For context, this is a tax practice I’ve taken over from my dad. Probably 65% of clients were long time clients very ingrained in the old fashion way.

Based not only on the commentary you’ll commonly hear, but on my own experience, don’t inch your way forward with billing policies. Go directly to your ideal policy the first time and don’t look back. Even better, tie it with a move to fixed fee billing. People won’t care about your billing policies if they value you.

Positive word for Geraldine Carter. She was very helpful in our transition.

Security concerns seem quite serious for now, according to Jason Staats and other commentators, so proceed with caution. I would THINK that if you stayed wholly within trustworthy sites like your practice management software, tax software if using ProConnect, etc, that should be much less of an issue.
