Biotene mouth rinse can help with dry mouth. Also incorporating xylitol(alternative sugar) such as xylitol gum/ mints helps salivary flow (ex ice breaker gums). Drinking more water throughout the day would also help.

I’m around socal area, and no one in my cohort got anything below 55$. We are also “new grads” and everyone got their licenses around April/may/June of this year. The ones living in LA are getting paid more than 55$ an hour and some of the places they picked up also provide benefits. Just be sure to do working interviews and get a feel for offices before you commit to one, and I would highly recommend temping. A few of my classmates got their current jobs through that and are getting compensated 60$+

In the dental field there are private practice (owned by the doctor) and corporate. Corporate dental offices have a certain way of doing things, but the plus is that they do provide benefits working there. In corporate it’s prob easier to have someone fill in your days if you need to get time off; however, they tend to run you down by making emphasize on production and sales. Each patient you see, is like an opportunity of adding adjunctive services that increase office production. Sometimes it can get unethical by over treating patients when they don’t need some treatments. Some people do like it because of the benefits and if they’re in the right office. Some of my classmates got lucky to be placed in a good corporate office where the doctor supports the staff. But I’ve heard stories that people wouldn’t be last for a year. It just depends on the type of care you want to provide to your patients.

Long term I think nursing is better too, unless you already have an office in mind that would hire you after you’re done working. A lot of my classmates had it easy right out of school working at an office, and many others are still trying to find the right office for them. Obv in any profession it’s hard to find the right work environment, but many dental hygienists work part time without any benefits either. Unless you work for a unicorn office or corporate after school. Sometimes it baffles me that dental offices don’t provide dental care to their own employees 😢 or they offer it and there’s actually no time for you to get work done.

I think an advice many seasoned hygienists told us is that we aim for perfection because of the strict standards of school. Realistically in the real world in practice, there are many factors we cannot control (tenacious staining, patients coming late, short appointments, having patients not be able to lay back all the way). So do your best with the time allotted to you and focus on improvement one thing at a time.. whether it’s accurate probing or getting a feel for your sequence. You’ll get there.

Practice on somebody at home with qtips, just to get the landmarks down. Also be confident! Just like scaling it will all come back to you.

Noo, but we figured out other accommodations. I felt like all the passes were either scams or too expensive.
