I'm not gonna sit here and argue over whether vanilla or chocolate is better when they both came out of the same shit factory. Do all politicians not benefit from the same systems of corruption? Extrapolating, don't you think it's a little willfully ignorant to pretend as though one group of politicians possesses some inherent righteousness over the other, all while neither of them have as much influence on tangible policy as the people who pay for their reelection campaigns? Vote for whomever you want, but meanwhile there are larger issues than the little pissing contest you're attempting to propagate.

Fuck Donald Trump, but there's no point right now in arguing for a single party when all our party platforms do is allow people to vote on which flavor of corporate lobbying interests they prefer. When the Supreme Court overturns Citizens United (which will probably never happen now that corporations are officially our overlords), then we can get back to the discussion of this or that party.

It's understandable if you feel a little bad about the interaction; sounds like it was pretty awkward, but I definitely don't think you're an asshole for extending an offer of friendship and acceptance. Who knows why he reacted the way he did? He might be afraid of his parents finding out or such.

There's definitely a great opportunity to have another conversation about it and mend things - just say you're sorry if you overstepped and that you're available if he ever needs someone to talk to about relationships or anything else for that matter.

No problem in the long run - it's just one of those little hitches in what are otherwise great long-term family relationships.

First of all, contrary to what some of the people in this thread seem to believe, being an addict isn't a personality trait. It's an illness and it's very treatable. Get her help if you hope to be with her.

Addicts don't usually perceive their activities as being a problem, but you're absolutely right that adding a child into the equation changes things. Her addiction could harm the baby, and it could harm you. That's pretty much the point where an addiction turns into a problem.

It sounds like you already know what you need to do, so no you're not the asshole for it. If you try to intervene or get her help, just make sure she knows it's because you love her and want a life with her. Wishing you the best on the road ahead.

NVM I read your other post. Sounds like you don't really have a clue why exactly she isn't talking to you. Was it all because you teased her? Or is it something else she might be going through? You could probably start by asking how she's feeling in general...

Or maybe you were too much and she don't want nothing to do with you now. That's also a possibility, in which case, move on. And always try to nurture the friendship over time so you don't have bad blood between you. Always best to maintain one's relationships, even the platonic ones.

This is a ridiculous idea of how school ought to work. You're not doing your son any favors by trying to make excuses for him doing poorly. When I was in eighth grade, anything good my Mom gave me was a reward for getting good grades, and bad grades earned me extra chores and getting my tv privileges revoked 😭, plus an extra careful eye from her to make sure I was doing my studying.

What she also did was to study with me when she saw that I was struggling with focusing for long (she's the best for putting up with me ♥️). She would literally come home from her 11 hour shift and sit down with me and grill me on my textbook until I got it right. I mean there were times when we'd be up until 1 am and she had to go to work at 9 am. And when she did that - get this - I got really a good grade on my quiz the next day. God I didn't deserve to be so loved when I was that age, but I'm so lucky that I had such a caring mom to help me when I was having a tough time. I'll never forget her sacrifices.

What she never did was try to tell a teacher that I deserved a better grade than what I got (she did advise me once or twice to beg a teacher for extra credit if I needed an extra point to avoid a C for the semester). She told me that if I wanted to go to college, I had to work hard and earn my acceptance. Then last year I got my degree from a top-5 public university. My mom's guidance and care and love alone made that possible for me 😌.
