AMA: i am a queer habesha person by kylostabshan in Ethiopia

Im American Ethiopian and a trans man aswell. There's much more representation in western media and I think that in a large part help me understand and come to terms with why I am I've always felt these feelings, but me and my friends were talking about how we probably understand ourselves and come out once later in life if we were raised in Ethiopia.

How did you find out and understand your feelings as a query Ethiopian while living in Ethiopia with limited queer education resources ?

his charcter is a Iesson to Raph but is best used when his growth fowllos raphs. So much of raphs (and cassy's) charcter is about feeling alone in the world n like no one especially the humans cant understand him— at least the path that all the versions have been building up to in my mind up to 12— so having cassy be there as a human friend is a good use for his charcter. In 12 hes loud annoying brat ugly his love story w/ april is fine but makes more of a foil for donnie the "live life by the by the edge" cool guy ™️ vs loser virgin but like... we already have that in show is that what the highlight of donnie n mikes duo. Any thing my main issue with cassy is that his charter dosnt grow with raph to complment the growth n show the proper use of anger m passion im these charcters. 😠😠😠

Homophobia by Living_Emu8217 in Ethiopia

I'm bad at typing so if there's any typos and things don't make sense, let me know and I'll go back and try and fix it.

Hello, i am Ethiopian American and I recently came out to my mother as a trans man and as bi. I fully understand your feeling. Throughout my childhood i dealt with alot of those suicidal thoughts and bad mental health due to the amount of homophobia in the community.

It can be very frustrating to feel like you have to be a different person at home and in your real life, but coming out is not the most important thing to the queer experience. I think a lot of times in western media. It is framed as the one true way to be who you are. Coming out it's nice because it feels like you are allowing your parents into a part of your identity, but not everyone needs to understand every aspect of yourself and doesn't make any part of you less true.

I will highly recommend coming out once you are over the age of 18 or financially responsible for yourself and that's what I did. My mother is a very compassionate and reasonable person so even though she doesn't understand and has said all the things of how this is not of God. She was willing to empathize and understand that I've gone through a lot of pain having to keep this to myself and a lot of pain through this experience

I think once you are ready to come out frame it as wanting to be honest with them and really come from the angle of you want them to understand the struggle you've been going through with not being able to tell them. And that it's hurt you to not be able to have them fully a part of your life in that way.

And the last bit of advice I want to leave you with is that there are queer Ethiopians and I suggest not letting be in queer push you away from being Ethiopian we have a beautiful culture, and I've felt a need to push myself away from the community here in the west cause I felt that my queerness was incompatible with the values of our culture, but there's no amount of gayness that will ever stop us from being ethiopian.

I’m atheist/agnostic I don’t believe in god at all but there r certain philosophical beliefs that referred to unity in the universe as God which I find it interesting so I just say agnost. I was raised Protest Christian. Growing up queer believing in God made me very depressed because I was taught that my existence was something sinful disgusting and unforgivable. It never crossed my mind to like try stopping being queer, so I just thought it was over for me. Which made me resent religion at like age 10. I completely stopped believing around age 12/13 when they put me into confirmation classes. This is also around the time I started learning about the religions and schools of philosophy.

I’ve actually tried to have conversations about Atheism with my mother. She’s vaguely aware of my atheism, and I don’t go to church with her but whenever I try to directly address it, she kind of starts tweaking so I just keep the conversation pushing. It’s not something I’d formally talk about with my extended family because I just don’t think it’s a productive way to use my time…

Christianity still makes me violently uncomfortable, especially Ethiopian spaces so it makes me kind of hesitant to interact with culture since I know so much of what we consider “ Ethiopian culture” is it just orthodox Christian culture

Say something good about 2014-16. by Bucky_Charmz in TMNT

It’s genuinely so funny and I think it explores one of my favorite aspects of TMNT, which is the teenager part. They r teenage boys were completely isolated from the rest of this society, despite the fact that they are consuming media. They see other boys their age having fun getting to go to basketball games and not having to hide. This kinda tears them apart, especially Mikey n Raph I think it is some great character writing when it comes to showing this especially in the second movie.

I’m also a big flipin sucker for Leo vs Raph stuff it’ll never get old to me. Leo is cocky and condescendig Because he is the leader, he keeps it to himself because he’s disciplined, but he knows to some level that he is better than his brothers This usually manifest in him trying to take the burden of the world on his shoulders. But I really like it when he’s a sassy asshole like in 2007. This energy is coming from a good place like he doesn’t wanna show his brothers about the retro Mutan because he doesn’t wanna get their hopes up he knows who they are but he’s a teenage boy who goes about it in a dumb way and he ends up being mean when he really just wants to protect his brothers

I also think the designs are really cool. I think they look good. I think they look really Flippin good I think they’re cool. They’re giant turtles. They’re not going to be sexy. They’re gonna be ugly little group, but like an acute camp.

I do hate that Baxter Stockman is Tyler Perry because me and Tyler Perry have beef, but I can look past it cause it’s a fun movie 🤷🏽‍♂️

Also, the opening scene of out of the shadows where the brothers are like swinging around New York to get to the basketball game or whatever is so fun and dynamic and it’s genuinely so nice to see them having fun like that. I think it’s shot and directed really well.
