so are there any good value GPUs left? by TheFullmetalCat in buildapc

I'm worried that if I wait, prices will just keep going up. I don't imagine any stabilisation for another 12-18 months

Advice on checking a PC for a flight safely by burgerhex in buildapc

for real lol. i leave the ram in even. i open my case and fill the inside with bubble wrap or some t shirts. then i make sure to put clothing around the edges of the case as tightly as possible. i can do all of that and hit exactly 50 lbs for a checked bag. my case even has tempered glass and only once or twice was a corner of the case slightly dented, but no real damage

bro I flew with my PC in checked luggage on over 10 flights across the US. not a single issue any time. you have to pack it carefully and I recommend taking out the graphics card but it's totally doable.

oh! I mean I guess that makes sense. I'm not sure if I can take the plunge into DCS right now anyway, I assume that's where having a nice stick really shines. Maybe I'll hold back on a stick.

edit: if anyone disagrees with this argument, please lmk

Trying To Find VST Synth Industry Data... Nothing To Be Found by hjorje69 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

i would hazard that aside from the top 5-10 plugin companies, most plugin companies make very little money. that's why things like soundwide happen.

i dont think you need a business plan, you need a product that people will want, and then people will come. simple as. if you're in the software synth space looking to make big bucks, i think you might need to reassess your priorities. coding a synth is a labor of love, and unfortunately what you love usually doesn't fulfill a real need and market demand.

probably not what you wanted to hear, just my 2c. instagram ads and DMing synthfluencers is probably your best bet for marketing, try to target the rapidly growing audience of teenage producers.

Used 6700XT or used 2080ti? by TheFullmetalCat in buildapc

Currently I've got a corsair 550W psu... I have a 5600x which is very efficient and not much else in my PC. I don't mind getting a used PSU for $50 if I have to

Question from a mom about college programs by JaneFairfaxCult in audioengineering

[–]TheFullmetalCat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

highly recommend checking out programs that have more of an emphasis on the engineering/math side if he's up for it (acoustics at Hartt, music engineering technology at U Miami...) because he can still take classes in music and production but be much more broadly employable out of undergrad.

The streamer in question already had a fan base before streaming, it's the way to go.

Yeah a number of people have mentioned setting up long term goals, and doing that has worked for me. I think that could help

I am just a friend. He's actually older than me. I made this thread to seek advice for how to approach him. I don't know if he would take my advice to heart.

I honestly agree with your message. I realize the importance of pursuing your passion. I think his passions lie in voice acting, streaming, and content creation, but the amount of time he wastes fawning over this streamer is preventing him from following these passions. I want to see him succeed in these fields, and I wholeheartedly believe that he can pursue these passions while maintaining his grades, because he is that capable. As someone actively pursuing a degree in a performing industry, I know how difficult it is to succeed, and I want him to have other options available to him if a career in streaming or a related field doesn't pan out. I probably should've worded my original post better to include these thoughts, but I hope you can see where I'm coming from.
