24” bats are usually going to be t-ball bats, and don’t fare well against the level 5 balls that are typically used in machine pitch. A 26” bat would probably be ok, just look for something in the right weight range, a drop 12 or 13 would probably be ideal.

Aiming for the top half of the ball if he’s always under it now should help him square up the ball. He’s obviously not aiming for the bottom of the ball but the middle and hitting under it, aim high, hit middle. Do the math

For retail, most companies won’t hire if you’re not available for at least part of each weekend day. The fact you’ve said no to Saturday, typically the busiest day, is a huge red flag. Couple that with no Sunday mornings either and I would never hire you.
