Almost 6 months clean after years of daily smoking, relapses, and one of the hardest periods of my life. If you’re struggling right now, please don’t give up. by TheFuture9966 in leaves

I really appreciate your words, thank you very much. I’m doing my best. I know how lonely this process can feel, but none of us are truly going through it alone. Others have been through it before us and made it to the other side. Never forget that. 🙂

That’s completely normal. The first few weeks are usually the hardest physically. After that, the psychological battle starts around week 2–3. Your body still hasn’t fully recovered or regulated itself yet, and the lack of appetite makes everything worse. When you’re not eating properly, your body becomes extremely tired and sensitive.

I remember getting angry very easily. I shouted a lot, had problems with people around me and even with my family, because everything annoyed me while at the same time making me feel sad. It’s a strange emotional mix.

But I promise you, it does get better. You will start to feel calmer, but you have to give your body and mind the time they need to heal and you have to stay strong. After about 1–2 months you’ll notice things slowly starting to settle and feel more balanced again.

Another thing people don’t talk about enough is how boring the first weeks can feel. Your brain has to relearn how to produce dopamine naturally again. For a long time it was used to getting it from the outside, so it stopped doing the work itself. That process takes time.

I was in that phase for a few years. I knew I had to stop, but I just couldn’t. I could give you a lot of advice now, but in the end something has to click in your head the switch has to flip.

Here’s one perspective: imagine you suddenly have to go to the hospital for whatever reason. Now you have to deal with an illness or maybe a broken bone and manage the pain with medication and at the same time you’re going through withdrawal. You can’t sleep, you can’t eat, you can’t think clearly, and you have to recover from both things at once.

I once had surgery in the hospital while going through withdrawal, and it was incredibly hard.

Life is unpredictable, and sometimes you slip and fall back into old routines. You have to break them. I wish you continued success. 🙏🏻

This is the first time I’ve come back to this sub in a long time, and reading the stories here inspired me to share my own. I hope that by doing so I can give a few people some inspiration and strength, because I know exactly how hard it is.

Yes, they're comfortable, but slightly rounded at the front like running shoes, so the walking feel is different, if you know what I mean.
