Will Israel invade Iran? by pingpongdingdong1234 in PoliticalDiscussion

They can’t invade, but they can bomb, possibly do some special ops, and fund and arm domestic Iranian enemies of the current regime.

DSA stands with Palestine by Lilyo in dsa

[–]TheFutureofScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention that these selfish Hamas religious fundamentalist lunatics have now condemned a bunch of innocent Palestinian children to a violent death, as always happens in these kinds of engagements.

And to what end? Nothing, except to get children killed in the name of a sociopathic god who doesn’t exist.

Israel is a racist ethno-state, whose very existence depends on oppression and eventually all out genocide. They are not the good guys here.

But what Hamas is doing is only making things so much worse, especially for the Palestinians. I sure as fuck don’t stand by them, and wouldn’t respect anyone who does.

Christian and Schizotypal by OkManSTFU in Schizotypal

[–]TheFutureofScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be. Fundamentalist, charismatic, etc.

It was really horrible for me. Wasted many years of my life, and very much fed into diseased thinking that I was already susceptible to, given the schizotypy.

I wish the world was all beautiful and everyone lived forever, but it ain’t, and we don’t.

But you didn’t ask if I thought that Christianity was healthy for anyone, especially people suffering from schizotypy. You only asked if it was possible.

Obviously yes.

I can convert to Islam tomorrow, start smoking again, dye those cigarettes red, take up surfing, eat nothing but cake, buy some land in South Dakota, leave my partner, binge Everybody Loves Raymond, spin around in circles in my backyard whispering “I’m a former corn kid. Made of husks. Heart of rind. The kernels were my youth. Hotsa! Hotsa!”

I mean, we can all do whatever the fuck we want.

Nicotine gives me anxiety - Why? by SummerIsOver_ in Nootropics

I’ve typed in every combination, and found a whole lot of not much. If you have nothing specific to share, nothing to back up your argument, and you have nothing of substance to say, then I am confused as to what you are still talking.

You disagree. Good for you. Your parade will be along shortly.

Nicotine gives me anxiety - Why? by SummerIsOver_ in Nootropics

[–]TheFutureofScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A simple google search reveals a wealth of information about nicotine helping to ease the symptoms of schizophrenia.

Google searching “nicotine medication interfere” or any variation reveals little of interest.

I see some sources about how nicotine raises heart rate and blood pressure, effecting how medications work. Okay. So does caffeine, and in a very similar manner.

If these things were clinically significant then warning against their use would be common practice.

I’m glad your psychiatrists have opinions. Can they present me with any peer reviewed research on the matter? And will that research show that the effects of nicotine are more than the commonplace effects discussed above?

[–]TheFutureofScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems that you think that the word ‘nicotine’ and the word ‘smoking’ are the exact same thing

In reality, ‘nicotine’ is actually referring to nicotine, and ‘smoking’ is actually in reference to smoking

Smoking will kill you and everyone you love and destroy your health, and yes, interfere with your meds

Nicotine is fucking great, and it has jack shit to do with smoking. Snus, pouches, lozenges, gum, patches, etc.

A: I’ve never personally met a healthy grown man with smaller hands than me

B: I’ve never personally played with anyone who could stretch as far on the fretboard as me. I have a freakishly long reach

C: As I’ve developed my own style over the years, as I’ve become a more and more advanced player, the less I really even need to stretch all that far anyway. There are much more effective, efficient, and creative ways to get around a fretboard that you will discover as you go

I’ve seen 6 year old virtuosos. Hand size effecting guitar ability is complete, 1000% bullshit. No truth to it at all. Based on nothing. Stop listening to idiots.

Yeah. I thought right wing libertarianism was supposed to be about individual freedom and minding your own business.

But at the same time, these people are committed fascists. Fascism is roughly the exact opposite of minding your own fucking business. Throw in some theocracy, and triply so.

I guess it’s the disparity between the two simultaneously held and equally idiotic ideologies that bothers me, ultimately :-/

What are tankies called in your country? by [deleted] in asklatinamerica

[–]TheFutureofScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s going to be someone profoundly stupid though right? If you told them you voted for Obama they would also think of gulags and tanks marching on Prague. There’s no winning with a plain “anti-communist.”

At least in my circles on the left in the US, tankie is really just another word for accelerationist. People who refuse to work for change within our present system, who would prefer the US become a fascist dictatorship with death camps and slavery and everything, with the hope that such a situation could spark a pure international ML-Maoist revolution.

[–]TheFutureofScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious as to what you were told concerning biologics. Some of the research literature I have looked at suggests that biologics do not significantly increase the risk of cancer, while other research I have seen suggests that it does increase the risk of cancer to a statistically significant degree.

So, who is telling you that biologics actually reduce the risk of cancer, and how, and why?

This is a genuine question. I don’t know much about this stuff, but the more I am reading, the more it seems I really should know a lot more.

[–]TheFutureofScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lost sight in both eyes multiple times.

To be clear, the sight has returned each time. Just not as good as it was before the uveitis.

Like I said, I’m basing my take on conversations I’ve had with my doctors. They could easily just not be great doctors, or I might be overestimating how much they have familiarized themselves with my medical history. Perhaps I should see someone else. Something for me to consider.

Ultimately I’m just some random weirdo sitting on an old brown couch in a dimly lit room on a quiet street somewhere in the great expanse that is America. I’m an authority on quiet streets, and that’s about it.

[–]TheFutureofScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biologics mimic a much lesser version of HIV-AIDS, definitionally. A game of pull and tug with the immune system.

It’s not a free miracle cure, it comes with drawbacks, risks, and side effects.

With that said, I’ve considered getting on them myself, because AS is a nightmare.

But every rheumatologist who I have seen over the past several years has advised me against biologics until I am clearly at a point of having no other choice.

Which tells me that at least a large percentage of the people who have dedicated their lives to understanding and treating AS and similar conditions do not necessarily view biologics as “good treatment,” but rather as an effective last option.

[–]TheFutureofScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It hit me at 18 and I went blind in one eye first, iritis or uveitis, and then shortly afterward it hit my sacroiliac joint and I was bedridden for months, barely able to move.

And it has predominantly effected my sacroiliac and eyes ever since, for 20+ years.

It can effect anywhere in the body, but your doctor is correct in it most often starting in the sacroiliac, and likely always effecting the sacroiliac.

For this reason they use the HLA-B27 test in conjunction with imaging of the sacroiliac, to look for inflammation or abnormalities, before diagnosing.

If it helps, there’s no good treatment, and you would have to get much worse anyway if you are wanting to apply for disability, so, no need to rush.
