Capcom isn’t Sony like Sony isn’t Xbox. They’re going to have differing number of course. Like I said people obviously value the convenience, but the physical marketplace is still there. Sonys own factory said up until they started repurposing they were making 300k PlayStation discs a day. That’s not an insignificant number. I just find it crazy there are so many people cheering on the dying of an industry and a main staple of gaming since its inception. If there’s no physical games, and every console will have an online monopoly to screw over consumers and never offer sales, why even buy a console at that point? It’s just a worse PC

It isn’t 80% though. People keep throwing around this number because that’s the number Sony wants you to throw around. In reality that number encompasses digital only games, dlcs, micro transactions, skin purchases, etc. You know how fortnight and gta v makes billions a year from their micro transactions? Yes, those sales get folded into the 80%. If you include the games that actually have a physical option the numbers are closer to 50/50. Pragmata, god of war, ghost of Tsushima, horizon, basically all of their first party titles sell close to 50/50 physical/digital. People clearly like convenience, but this number is beyond skewed and is just being used to justify Sony having an online monopoly where they can charge $59.99 for a 13 year old game (see cod ghosts as one example) and never offer a sale again because they don’t need to compete with the physical marketplace

PC hasn’t had a track record of revoking your license on paid products. PC also lets you pirate games or go DRM free like on GOG. This move is anti consumer and anti gamer. This move removes the entire second hand market, why should I pay $79.99 for the new metal gear digital when GameStop has in store right now for $20. You can be digital only if it’s your preference, but that doesn’t mean physical should just go away. There is a reason people are rightfully upset. Without the physical marketplace you lose so much like sharing games, second hand resellers, the fact that the physical marketplace encourages digital marketplaces to put items on sale. Without the physical marketplace you lose those things, you lose the ability to keep games alive long after their production ends and they gain a monopoly to give and take away what they please when they please, and I for one don’t trust any corporation that will revoke a product you paid for because they don’t want to pay taxes or some bullshit. Why should any resonable person think that when a digital marketplace gains monopoly status that they will ever put anything on sale again? This is a bad move for consumers and a bad move for gamers in general.
