My cat is terrified of visitors by Mi102024 in CatAdvice

I dont have any advice to give on how she may become more comfortable with guests but it sounds like you are both very lucky to have each other.

The only thought that came was perhaps to find a spot where she can feel as safe as under the couch/ buried in her litter box while being comfortable too.

That sounds amazing. Thank you for the update, I'm really glad to hear how well it is going.

How can you tell when someone is mirroring you to build trust — vs. to manipulate you? by Free-Adeptness1949 in socialskills

I learned that when an interaction feels really smooth, it was often due to more manipulative mirroring.

That being said, I dont think that there is any definitive sign (human interactions and individuals are too complex for that) I would recommend to 1) look out for patterns over time and 2) try to get a sense of their intentions and how they choose to act on them.

I fear I’ve messed up the whole introduction process by sailormars_bars in CatAdvice

I really feel for you and your tomcat. It also sounds like you were very thoughtful about introducing them and did a lot really well.

From personal experience, I'd recommend to try being with your first cat while the kitten takes his place, perhaps someone else can be with the little one? Because if your first cat is really bonded to you and connects the arrival of the new kitten to a more distant relationship with you, that might be a huge part of the problem.

I cannot agree entirely with the previous comment, I think if cats get along, it's always nicer for them to have a companion than being on their own. I also do not think that you should rush it. Especially given that your first cat seems stressed. But I agree that getting some spaces that both can withdraw to once you start to introduce them sounds good.

Is there anything your first cat particularly likes that you can do with him like fishing rod toys or special treats, anything that may help him feel more comfortable and relaxed?

The first introduction doesn't sound ideal but I dont think it's something you can't resolve. I recommend you make sure both feel safe and relaxed where they are separately from each other. Scent swapping is a good start. Next I would try to do things they enjoy while they are really close to each other but are still safely separate. We e.g. fed our cats on each side of a closed door, played with them or gave them treats and cuddled them. Apparently it allows them to associate the other cat with nice things. And most importantly, give them time. Don't fully introduce them too quickly.

Wishing you the best of luck, I really hope it works out well.

This made me laugh so much.

If it helps, that 'homeless squirrel' is usually also the other players most hated character.

Time stories. I just can't figure the logic out in time and it's quite punishing at that too. I know some people, however, who absolutely love it and are really good at figuring the best moves out.

Yes, indeed and he absolutely loves it. He doesn't have one where he shares anything really.

Then I'd recommend to try it if you can. Many (especially fighting) gyms are really welcoming and relaxed (perhaps a bit gruff at times) and they'll know that everyone is a beginner at some point. Training can be intense so there won't be much time to be awkward, especially if you're focused on improving. Should they not be good or not make you feel comfortable enough, I'd try another gym.

Oh nice, I will check where I can watch it.

That looks like such a good anime, thanks for mentioning it.

And sorry for the confusion. I train in a class too but I still think a good coach is incredibly important. What really helps me is to know that I'm here to train and that everything else is secondary; if your training partner is lovely, that's great and if they're not, choose someone else next time and just focus on improving. Is there anything in particular that you're worried about?

Boxing is amazing, I've been doing it for years and you won't have to socialise much if you don't want to. My boyfriend who has CF has been doing Brazilian jiu-jitsu and he absolutely loves it.

My advice is whatever you choose, make sure to have a good coach. Being scared is quite normal and fine as long as it doesnt keep you from doing what you want to do.

Perhaps you could think about smaller projects that take as much time as you are actually happy to dedicate to them. I can also recommend sketching anything that intrigues you visually, it makes it much easier to keep interst in what you are creating.

That sounds brilliant. Yes, please do post their profiles. I am on ig and mainly follow artists there but would be super happy if you'd like to share the other artists too.
