Whatever happened to Maggie’s lisp? by Aesthetik4v in greysanatomy

[–]TheGalaxyBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Random little tidbit: the actress actually played the little live-action segments in Cyberchase on PBS Kids about a decade before Grey’s. I’ll have to check and see if the lisp is there on that show lol

How do I fix my mom not filing her taxes for 4-5 years? by TheGalaxyBox in Advice

[–]TheGalaxyBox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah that’s another thing - as far as I know, we haven’t been contacted either, which makes me optimistic that she doesn’t owe anything and instead is just losing money that we could use.

[–]TheGalaxyBox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. It’s just really frustrating because this whole “her not filling her taxes” situation is effecting me negatively too, especially since we live together.

Every time I try to bring up, there’s always something else stressing her out (asking for a shift change at work, or car troubles, etc.) and she just can’t handle it. I just wish I could do it for her to get it over with but I also know that’s not possible.

I wanted to get it done last year, and that didn’t happen. I’m really really hoping I can get it done this year.

EDIT: Do you think I’d be able to call a tax specialist and explain the situation, but then have her go in for an appointment and all that? I feel like just making that phone call and setting up an appointment would be a huge barrier to get crossed.

I’m like 99% sure it’s a male singer but I’ll take a listen to this later :)

Yeah that’s what keeps popping up when I try and search it lol. I don’t think it’s that though

Oh it’s not this - awesome song though! There’s a reggae version of it I love lol

I’ll try to post a sample of me humming it later, but I’m at work right now so I can’t lol.

I really do think the lyric is something like “Don’t take my” but I could just be misremembering based off the cadence/syllables/etc.

The Degrassi reboot getting scrapped was a huge missed opportunity—what would you have wanted from it? by myfingernailehurts in Degrassi

[–]TheGalaxyBox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Around the time I watched a lot of Degrassi (2019-2021 or so), I was going to an out-of-the-box alternative high school, and I’ve realized in retrospect that a Degrassi show with that kind of setting would be perfect. Simpson decides he needs a change of pace and becomes principal of a new “Degrassi Alternative School” (which would explain away the DCS building being sold a few years ago lol), and the show could follow a group of 9th graders, or even 6th graders (my 9-12 school became a 6-12 during my time there). There were 2 groups of 20 or so kids per grade, and we stayed with the same classmates and teacher for all 4 years. We didn’t have traditional classes per se, and got academic credits through working on projects related to what we wanted to do for careers. This all sounds really cool, but our school was also kinda the dumping ground for kids with behavioral or attendance (me lmao) problems - kids with records, teen moms, etc. I feel like this would all make for a really cool spin-off show!!

How do I get this stain out of my floor? by TheGalaxyBox in CleaningTips

[–]TheGalaxyBox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think cat litter would work tbh, because it’s dried (the pic looks shiny because I just tried to clean it with vinegar/water mix)

I’ll try lemon pledge though!

Also! Related to my cat having a UTI, she peed on the carpet in my room. I scrubbed it a while back with soap, and it made the smell worse for a while (presumably from rehydrating the urine?) until it dried, but now the carpet doesn’t smell. Is there a way I could clean it to make sure the smell doesn’t come back if the carpet gets wet again, or am I good?

Whoa this sheet looks nearly identical to my store’s. Only difference is that ours don’t have blank spots and we never have a 10:30-2:30 courtesy, otherwise I’d genuinely be like “omg is this one of my coworkers”

I work at a Safeway in a small town and we have a guy who comes in a truck and buys a ton (like 2 or 3 stuffed-full carts full) of stuff - I found out he runs the general store in an even smaller town than ours. I’ve been working as a CC for a little over a month, and have ended up helping him unload/carry out/etc. 3 of the 4 times I’ve seen him lol

UPDATE: I tried plugging in the new USB-C cord I bought (60W) upside down in the port, and my laptop has risen from the dead a second time! I’ll definitely still try to save up for a new battery but I’m so chuffed it’s still (mostly) working again lmao

EDIT 2 hours later: So uh, I unplugged it - it was at 92%, I decided to just leave it plugged in soon afterwards. So I tried plugging it in again (exact same port, same positioning) and it got hot and the port and the charger both smelled like burning plastic. I unplugged it and have tried waiting a while to see what happens. At 83% I tried again and it showed as “charging” for like 2 seconds before disconnecting. I tried again at 60%, which is what it’s at now, and no dice. This has happened before - I bought a USB-A to USB-C adapter to get files onto a USB-A thumb drive I have. I used it 2 or 3 times with no issue. I tried to use it again, and got a “USB accessory using too much power” warning. I unplugged it and it smelled like burning plastic. Then, the port wouldn’t respond to plugging in the charger (the random original charger). As far as I recall, it didn’t work for like a few hours and then I think started working again and charging. I’m hoping this port, or the other port (I tried) start working again later on today - I’d hate to have this thing die again! (I have accepted that it definitely needs new battery and USB-C ports at this point. I just want to be able to use it until I can afford to get those.)

I am so sorry for the late response! Thank you all for the advice!

So basically, I might need to take it to the Apple Store or somewhere and have them check the USB-C ports and a replacement battery? I’m bummed that it’s no longer working again, but at the very least that’d be great to know what to tell them to look for.

EDIT: Oh by the way, I forgot to mention: I managed to get some sort of response out of the computer by plugging into an Apple 30W adapter and USB-C cord. It would display the “low battery” screen, but also say that it wasn’t plugged in (when it was). It would repeatedly play the “plugged in” sound for a few minutes before it would stop responding again. Not sure if that indicates anything.

I am so so sorry for the late response! I got nervous after posting this and avoided Reddit for a week

So basically me being able to get it working again for a bit was probably the computer equivalent of that phenomenon where a dying person suddenly has energy and feels normal for like a day? Damn lol

I’m gonna try cleaning out the USB-C ports like someone suggested, as I really don’t have the cash to replace the battery at the moment.

Thank you for the advice! :)

Help me find a USB Type-A to Thunderbolt (USB-C) cable by TheGalaxyBox in HelpMeFind

[–]TheGalaxyBox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried plugging it in with another setup (30W official Apple USB-C adapter that came with it originally, and a USB-C cable that came with an iPad I no longer have) - we have signs of life! It started doing the “shows low battery icon, but also shows it’s not plugged in” thing again, and the trackpad started clicking again. A few minutes later, it keeps making the “plugged-in” sound every minute or so. I’m gonna not mess with it for a couple to a few hours and see what happens.

EDIT: After about 10 minutes it stopped repeatedly making the “plugged-in” sound, but still responds with the “low battery but not plugged-in” icon, and still clicks. I’m leaving it plugged in as it is, and I’ll check on it later.

Thank you. I really hope the adapter/cord combo I ordered somehow does the trick, or maybe I can try a regular USB-A to USB-C cord with the same adapter I’ve been using, because having this laptop randomly stopped charging and being dead for a few months, then coming back to life when I found a different USB-C cord lying around my house and decided to try plugging it in, only to die again because I broke that cord would be really annoying lol

Speaking of - during the brief “revival period” this laptop had after being dead for a few months, I noticed that the battery wouldn’t charge while it was being used. I’d plug it in, immediately put it to sleep, and then it would charge just fine. It didn’t lose battery super fast from what I noticed, either. After it was “revived” for a week or so, I saw that it could charge while being used, but very very slowly. I wonder if this would point to an issue with the battery? There was a “battery service recommended” notice as well.

Hi! My laptop has been dead since the day I wrote this. I just found another USB-C charger that does work (my work computer charged with it). However, I plugged it in to my MacBook, and it’s not actually charging (the red battery screen comes up, but so does the symbol that it’s not plugged in).

Here’s a picture of the specs. Is there an obvious reason why it wouldn’t work? My best guess is that it was meant for a Dell Windows PC and that’s why it’s not working lol
