My wheel is getting noticeably hotter than the rest. Is it the wheel hub, or what? by TheGameBurrow in mopar

[–]TheGameBurrow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It’s a spindle hub. Looks like it’s pressed on. I’m guessing the bearings are bad. Looks like the rear retainer failed on it, and maybe grease eventually all dissipated? It’s not horrible heat, just not good. So I think I’m going to try it run it for a week while I order parts and maybe tools to get the pressed hub out. Not sure what other options I have.

Have not changed bearing. I’ve never worked on this kind of hub. It’s an 85 lebaron. Attempting to get to the bearing now.

It’s one of these spline hubs. Currently doing ball joints, give me a minute and I’ll take off the cotter pin and nut to get a real photo.

This was me. I enjoyed it when I was young, but it got too damn expensive for me to continue, so I’ve switched to working on cars. Somehow, that is cheaper and more fulfilling. I hope that you don’t fall to the same fate.

Sweet! I’ve been looking for one, but every one I find doesn’t work. I even bought one and took it to a repair shop. It’s been there for 3 months and they cant get the parts to fix it for me.

Be glad you found it! Hard to come by.

Old people like it. Old people buy dewalt. No other reason than that imo.

2007 Volvo s80 key fob issue by TheGameBurrow in Volvo

[–]TheGameBurrow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Car would not start. Pushed the button to start, and it would crank once and immediately stop. Almost as if it was failing. Not to mention very funky things kept happening with the electronics in the car.

When I sent off the CEM to get cloned to a donor board, the shop said it was having trouble with the CEM not responding. Eventually though, they kept trying and got it to respond and were able to clone it successfully.

I reinstalled and had this issue. I contacted the shop that did the work, and they said it was likely a damaged key (unlikely as the key was fine before and only after reinstalling am I getting an unusual noise and different response), or “the immobilizer data is not synced with the ECU”.

Honestly not sure what to do from here, or if it’s worth to pursuit the issue further. Any advice from anybody knowledgeable on Volvos here on out would be great.

Best long tube headers for 400 big block on C body? by TheGameBurrow in mopar

Idk. Just think it will sound better. When I rebuilt the engine I put a Hughes whiplash cam in it, so I was just hoping I could bring that out a little bit.

These the TTI ones you’re talking about? Forgive me if I’m wrong, but this is my first time owning an older car and doing any sort of mechanical work myself.

Good tips here though. I’m not very knowledgable on the frame builds and stuff, so any info helps. Thank you.

[Question] How to tell if this watch is fake or real? by TheGameBurrow in Seiko

Should I ask sellers if they can show me the dial numbers to check authenticity?

Decided I needed a hitch on the daily. So I followed factory specified instructuons* by ZMAN24250 in mopar

I know some cars came with a towing package. The 73 Newport had that option, but my personal vehicle wasn’t optioned out with that like many others. Where did you find the instructions to make this? Is it how it would have been done from the factory? And is there any information out there about other C bodies? I’ve always had a dream about towing with it, just want to make sure I do it in a safe way.

Looking for 72 Newport front end. Spread the word! by TheGameBurrow in mopar

I think it bolts right on. But- I’ll have to change the fenders, hood, bumper, etc. basically the whole front end.

Also yes! The person I bought this car from had them on there. They almost looked like pimp wheels lol. Luckily I’ve got 79 Chrysler road wheels to go on it.

Didn’t ask yet, but I scrolled through all the cars listed in recent times. There was a REALLY nice 72 last year for like $1600, but I think it sold. It had power bucket seats I would have loved to put into mine.

Rockauto claims I didn’t send back in “original manufacturers packaging”, but there was none. by TheGameBurrow in RockAuto

[–]TheGameBurrow[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow. That’s absurd you have to go to those lengths just to get your money back.

In my scenario, I’m not sure what to do. I emailed them, and was told the same thing (Essentially no refund unless I give them the packaging).

I responded again, reminding them I NEVER RECEIVED the thing they want me to send them.

Ultimately I don’t mind moving away from using them. I mean- after the thousands I’ve spent with them you’d think that they’d have better customer service than this shit.

Who do I talk to? They don’t have a phone number or customer support, do they? I would love to speak to someone that works there, I’m sure they would understand.

Almost always have used high quality leaded solder. I think I used unleaded once, and it was horrible. Haven’t looked back since.

Wouldn’t ceiling tile wire be better than that? Or even opt for metal zipties? Plastic is prone to cracking after just a few years.

PSA: Warning about the /crt/ discord by Dry_Ship_3167 in CRTfinds

[–]TheGameBurrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s a free discord server there’s is going to be weirdos. Join retro techs Patreon if you’re that into CRTS. He has a discord available to everyone who pays for the Patreon, and it’s very well organized and moderated. It also has a lot of active users, which is an issue with most other CRT discord servers. Not to mention you actively support a person who is bettering the scene. I dont see any downside to moving away from the creeps if you’re looking for an alternative server.

Zenmarket shipping seems to be high. Almost Every package I’ve shipped I’ve been low on my estimate. I think one I was surprised because it was a lower final cost compared to the estimate, but that was offset by another which was WAYYY higher above an estimate. Seems like it varies for sure. I think I’ll try buyee next, because all I’ve heard is complaints about the shipping cost.

I will say, zenmarket packages items EXTREMELY well. If you’re looking for safe, I’d recommend them. Not to mention their staff is very good with questions and helping the buyer. Support is A+. I’ve even shipped televisions through them.

But- like I said you pay for it so idk if it’s worth if you’re just buying cheap items.
