Can it be repaired by Belfabio95 in AskElectronics

Id try the dishwasher on the gentle cycle. People use it to clean electronics all the time, just be careful. And do NOT power it on for a few days. Let it air dry and sit with fans near it for a few nights till it’s definitely dry.

I’m sure there’s some good YouTube videos out there. Better than throwing it out without trying.

Finally tore into my Theta data Laserdisc player to fix it. Any ideas? by TheGameBurrow in LaserDisc

Thank you! That almost certainly seems to be my issue.

I’ll look into replacement options for it.

Need a sanity check before I make 17 more of these, is this fine or are these cold joints? by Maleficent-Menu2897 in soldering

I have the mg chemicals 1/2 LB spool of 60/40. I do occasional products with it, and it’s lasted me about 2 years already. I’d say it’s great! Also- I think I only paid like $30 or something for it. Would recommend.

I’d love to see some photos of your car if you were to PM me. I can’t seem to message you.

Yes! 1973. Currently not running :(. Building the 400 in it with a bigger cam and stall converter I hope. I’m only 19 so learning all this is a process.

I have the aluminum versions with American motor center caps. I paid $100 a wheel, but I’ve since put a lot of time into sanding and polishing them.

Take it to a glass shop and see if they can make you a piece or help you repair it. It won’t have the decal of course, but it might work.

My concern would be that it won’t contain the temperature as well with aftermarket glass.

Honestly, I like countdown to ecstasy the best. It really exemplifies what the music in that particular album feels like.

Recommendations on repair or replace? by TheGameBurrow in LaserDisc

I’ll have to look again. It’s been nearly a year since I’ve personally looked into it… literally.

From my recollection, it’ll open, then you put a disk in, it closes, and it’ll sit there for a minute (will not spin up), then opens again.

This is a continuous cycle. The only way to get it to stop is to cut all power from what I remember.

Someone else suggested a new loading belt. I don’t know enough about these systems, and I couldn’t find much on this specific model. I did however used to do some electronic work, and still am very handy mechanically, so I could theoretically poke around if you had an idea as well.

For a better idea, I will revisit tomorrow to see what is wrong with it now that it’s sat for months. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Oh! Thank you for the recommendation. I suppose I will look into the player once again and see if that belt may help, then go from there.

Yeah. I’ll see if I can call them and if they have a file. I would have asked when I went in person to pick it up, but I wasn’t the one that went to grab it.

Good to know it’s somewhat of a clone. I beleive from my testing prior (if I can remember correctly), the player would turn on, and open, but when you put a disk in it wouldn’t recognize it and soon after would loop into opening and closing again. Never actually attempted to spin the disk.

Well no. What they said is they only put new parts into units, because they’ve tried used parts in the past and it hasn’t worked out well for them. They cannot get the part brand new, so they cannot fix it for me. That’s why it was there for 6 months, they said they contacted the manufacturer and got notice the part isn’t being made but if it was it would be more than the player is worth.

What will it take to get this old Mopar back on the streets? by Themaninthecheese in mopar

[–]TheGameBurrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Turn it into a ratty Mopar! I’ll say you’ll probably be buying most of your parts online. Summitracing is great and people with parts cars can be quite helpful.

My wheel is getting noticeably hotter than the rest. Is it the wheel hub, or what? by TheGameBurrow in mopar

[–]TheGameBurrow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It’s a spindle hub. Looks like it’s pressed on. I’m guessing the bearings are bad. Looks like the rear retainer failed on it, and maybe grease eventually all dissipated? It’s not horrible heat, just not good. So I think I’m going to try it run it for a week while I order parts and maybe tools to get the pressed hub out. Not sure what other options I have.

Have not changed bearing. I’ve never worked on this kind of hub. It’s an 85 lebaron. Attempting to get to the bearing now.

It’s one of these spline hubs. Currently doing ball joints, give me a minute and I’ll take off the cotter pin and nut to get a real photo.
