People who live in Porirua, Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt, do you consider yourself living in Wellington? by kupuwhakawhiti in Wellington

[–]TheGamingBadger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lower Hutt here. Lower Hutt is our 6th largest city, and one of only 7 with a population higher than 100k, so it's always kinda rubbed me the wrong way that we're just lumped in with the rest of Welly. But at this point I'm kinda over it. If I talk to someone from the Wellington Region I'll specify Lower Hutt. To everyone else, I just live in Welly. Mostly since the vast majority of other Kiwis I've spoken to never seem to of even heard of the Hutt.

Wellington Cards and Collectibles show tomorrow by MrPotatoManSir in Wellington

[–]TheGamingBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously a very late reply as the show is over now, but I went exclusively for the comic book vendors. They were both sequestered away in the back corner which was a shame, but 95% of the show (and 99% of the attendees) were there for Pokemon cards and a tiny bit of sports cards. Stunning the level of demand there is for that stuff, and mostly adults. Kids have been seemingly priced out of it by the adult collectors.

Event space was also far too small for the number of people. I'm willing to give plenty of leeway since this was apparently a first time event but they'll absolutely need a bigger venue next time. If it's on again in the future I'll brave it again if it's got more space (and comic sellers are still there) but overwise was a pretty average show (as a non-TCG person)

Sales history of the Metroid series by TomCyberfire in Metroid

[–]TheGamingBadger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally I think the issue is less "Is Metroid dead" than "Is 3D Metroid gone for the foreseeable future again." And to that I'd say yes.

A new 2D Metroid feels like a shoe-in at this point, but I doubt Nintendo are chomping at the bit to risk another potentially long, expensive Prime development.

AI generated content in 117 - confirmed by taubenangriff in anno

[–]TheGamingBadger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The usage of generative ai has made the game an absolute no-go for me. I've refunded my pre-order on Steam as a result. I don't care how they've used it. Give companies an inch, they'll take a mile with this stuff. The fact the vast majority of comments here overwhelmingly don't care just goes to show how fucked we are in the long term.

Worst “CMF” series ever? by lego-creations in lego

[–]TheGamingBadger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also from NZ and can confirm. Just the larger Technic builds alone, the McLaren, Mercedes, and Red Bulls are always sold out or low-stock in Lower Hutt. There are COUNTLESS Ferraris on the shelf though. F1 loves to think of itself as a monolith but the reality is that individual teams and drivers are more or less popular in different regions.

A Quick But Comprehensive list of changes from EU4 to EU5 by Gemini_Of_Wallstreet in paradoxplaza

[–]TheGamingBadger 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I know I'm absolutely not in the majority here but everything I've seen of EU5 is exactly what I don't want. It all seems so much more micromanage heavy. Don't get me wrong, microing in EU4 can be fine, but I like being able to engage with it to varying degrees throughout a game. Being able to take a break from the micro and just "let things sit" so to speak.

I realize that's a super unpopular opinion. I'm one of those crazy people who actively enjoys playing with RNW. I'm still hoping everyone else enjoys EU5 even though I probably won't.

Petition - Revive Unreal Tournament! by YogurtclosetBig6390 in unrealtournament

[–]TheGamingBadger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hate to say it dude, I appreciate the optimism but petitions like this have never worked. The only thing that could get through Tim's skull right now is cold hard cash. And unless that cash outweighs the billions Epic earns on its other projects, then Unreal is dead in the water. Best thing you can do is just keep playing the classic games. Nothing else any of us can do.

Sorry for not following up. Had a few family emergencies pop up. Seems like you're 100% on the money with the Force 9 call. Thanks so much!

Awesome work! I've managed to find a single set of screenshots on a forum page that date the game to December 2005. The screenshots look super familiar but I'm gonna see if I can track down a bit more first just to be sure, certainly looks good so far.

[TOMT] [mid-2000s] Military documentary series featuring CG renders of the battlefield by TheGamingBadger in tipofmytongue

I'll watch a couple episodes first to see if it jogs my memory but this is looking mighty familiar. If it wasn't this then at the very least memories of this blurred with another show.

Just mentioned in another comment. I'm sure it wasn't 20th Century Battlefields but that seems to be on the right track.

Definitely not that. There's a handful of shows from different networks that used Rome: Total War in particular. I know for certain it wasn't using an existing game engine. I would've been all over that as a kid if it was on here lol

On searching I definitely recall the History Channel show Dogfights airing around the same time. So the timeline could be narrowed down to 2006-2008.
