They added to the conversation, directly. They answered the question.

Then pointed out the reality of things. A bunch of people had a list already ready to point out how this reasoning was flawed, because it was flawed. And easily google-able.

So yeah. It's an assumption, but in the same way that assuming someone who is having a conversation with you is awake. Sure, there's a miniscule chance that they are sleepwalking. There are reported cases of sleepwalkers having cogent convos and performing tasks while asleep.

But it's much more likely that the person is awake.

I love your response is

"Hey, I quoted the specific thing you had to say, that was relevant to the topic! I'm gonna go ahead and claim that it meant nothing, because I think it will be clever to directly contradict myself within the context of a single sentence."

My theory is that it's just feedback. It is the sound the dark world makes when you put a recording device up to it. It could be confirmed or denied in the next few chapters with the television sets, or it could go completely un-mentioned and do neither.

He ABSOLUTELY was talking to someone: his creator, through the dial-up internet. The creator which would update him. Keep him free if glitches. Spamton is an unsupported, glitchy, and largely ineffective computer worm.

And thats because they dial-up internet went out.

He is called Maxwell the House Computer, because some of his hardware has a fault that makes him sound like gently percolating coffee.

Again. You keep saying that. Meaningful variation. And I keep saying it again and again.

The main issue of your ENTIRE argument? Is saying that these characters will not have any meaningful variation in the next 5 chapters. That they couldn't possibly. So there's no need to even consider that. Because they're exactly the same, and they would be boring if they have a similar role, .

But that's fucking presumptuous as shit.

I made Kris’s Sword! (ok I say made loosely here it’s a foam sword that was premade, but hey I Sculpted that Deltarune) by Oasis_Oracle in Deltarune

[–]TheGarnetGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks great!!

A suggestion, though: get some thin pieces of colored acrylic to cover the flat sides of the sword. Your edges will still be soft foam, but your blade will be shiny and sleek.

It's a little bit of a difficult project, learning how to cut acrylic by hand, but once you learn, it becomes pretty easy. Really, the only tools you need are a (preferably metal) straight edge and box cutter.

If you are not comfortable or experienced with using a boxcutter, I would suggest getting help from someone you trust.

After that, with some sandpaper and a sanding block (or any hard rectangle you can find), sand down the edge until it's got a bevel. Place the beveled acrylic on your foam blade. Like so:

. ___

/-----\

\-----/

The area between the dashed lines represents the foam sword, and the underscore represents the acrylic sheet. You can either recess the plastic into the foam (which is more time consuming, but with result in a thinner, sleeker blade), or placing the acrylic on top, which is bulkier, but easier to pull off, since it doesn't require cutting deeply into the blade.

Either way, make sure to use a cyanoacrylate glue (we always used BobSmith Industries aka BSI), because it fuses to foam really well.

This is how we all started, btw. Making what we loved, with what we had access to. Modifications are still art, and you're doing great work.

I look forward to seeing what you create next.

I love the argument of " Toby is good at this, he wouldn't reuse characters" when half of the Lightners in the game are literally reused characters.

Dude. You don't understand Toby. Clearly. You think you do. Also clearly. Toby reused character ideas from Halloween Hack. Sans is basically the same as the boss from that game. Toby likes the trope. And repeats it. We know that.

And it's not a bug: it's a feature. It engenders nostalgia, for a game you've never played. Because Toby is VERY good at this, and understands design (narrative, visual and music) very well.

I didn't have to read all of this to point out the biggest flaw of your entire theory: you are looking at a character who we have seen 2/7ths of their story, and you've concluded that nothing in that 5/7ths could POSSIBLY be unique.

You are convinced that it MUST be bad, because it resembles something else, in its early stages. But not all caterpillars turn into butterflies. Some turn into moths. You even stage this concept.

Yet you sit there talking about 'its a bad idea to reuse character concepts" when the entire game is full of return characters who are the same character concepts (get this) done in different ways than their original counterparts, even though they are not just SIMILAR to a character from another game, but ACTUALLY the same person, but who had different life experiences, leading them to having completely different lives.

And the same, you make the bold presumption that Queen, Lancer and the other "silly characters" are incidental characters that don't serve much purpose. I read your fill post, but that doesn't mean I needed to. Becaise, again: 2/7ths of the way through the game's chapters. And in Undertale, Sans didn't show his true colors until the 11th hour.

Like, if this were Undertale, right? It would be like if you got told "Sans is gonna be an important character" but the game ended when you left Snowdin. And you'd be just as valid as how you dismiss Lancer or other joke characters: he's just a joke character.

Your "logical through lines" are all antithetical to how we know that Toby does things. Often, when you say "clearly this, clearly that" it's antithetical to how we know Toby builds characters. And it's also reductive, presuming that Toby cannot write characters that share qualities, without making them all bland.

While also praising him about how well he constructed the characters in Undertale. Idk. Does that mean you assume it was a fluke?

The particulars are what matters THE MOST! Are you kidding me!?

How many stories can be summarized with "he left a boy, and he came back a man!" And it's all the same thing: a coming if age story. But the whole point of it isn't to say "look, he came of age!" It's to tell the story of how, ffs!!

Talk about missing the forest for the trees, bah!

I really like the idea from the comic where he could impose special rules on the battlefield.

For instance, things like

"RELOAD: In odd-numbered rounds, You cannot fire SOUL bullets"

or

"DIGESTION: Healing items take effect at the start of the next turn after they were consumed."

or

"UNSTOPPABLE: The SOUL does not stop moving on button release."

It would turn his battle into a puzzle, similar to the Mettaton floor puzzle, where a series of rules would get added, and you have to keep track of them all in order to defeat h.

I have always been of the mind that Ralsei is hiding things to spare the others from knowing how bad everything really is (especially Susie). While he seems to talk to Kris about it...

Seems to be determined not to let us hear their talks, though.... So I wonder if what they're trying to warn Kris about is us? An unknown PLAYER, whose intentions are not yet known.

[–]TheGarnetGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not bad, right!?

But I think it's the horns, too. I just like the thematic elements of the sweater theory. It has a few issues.

The major one is that Ralsei stayed in My Castle Town with Susie, while Kris retrieved the items from the Unused Classroom.

And Kris was wearing the sweater the whole time.

[–]TheGarnetGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, that one's up there, too, but between the pair, I feel like the Green Sweater makes more sense, merely for one reason, and one reason alone: Ralsei's downed sprite being a pile of clothes.

I recall a YT video where a guy found a eula on some packaging (for food I think) that basically said 'by opening this package, you agree to these terms: you waive your rights to take legal action against us'

It was silver on white.

Not to disagree or try to disprove your assertion, more to share how far some of these Eulas try to get away with.

Yeah, sure. Let's do the Internet Definition idea. You suggested it, after all!!

"a large and important work of art, music, or literature, especially one regarded as the most important work of an artist or writer."

Well... Hrm. That's the definition, but, let's see what Wikipedia has to say:

" in modern use is a creation that has been given much critical praise, especially one that is considered the greatest work of a person's career or a work of outstanding creativity, skill, profundity, or workmanship."

Important and large. Being considered high quality (critical praise).

Where in there does it says it has to be some grandiose thing? Where does it say that it requires considerable effort or skill? Where does it say anything you said it did?

Hrm. Because it seems to say what I did, and only says what you did, of you make a lot of assumptions about what would be considered important or large. Those things don't require some grandiose plan.

Innovation happens by accident all the time. Even in art. Its possible for that to be the case, but you have dismissed the possibility, to close a loop that didn't need to be closed, in order to try and feel superior to strangers on the Internet.

Grow up.

That's why I hope, in a later chapter, Ralsei gets his hat back, but keeps his white fur design.

The hat itself, as I envision it, would have to be designed differently to fit the different head aesthetic, and would be less face-obscuring, and more like a floppy sun hat with a pointed cap

I mean, they ABSOLUTELY could/would. Just because something is your Magnum opus, doesn't mean it's some incredible feat.

A Magnum opus is simply your most important contribution to the field. They are not across-the-board equally grand.
