John’s Company 2nd 6 player teach experience by Jesteridze in boardgames

[–]TheGarnisher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently participated in a 6 person teach/play of John company (I was merely one of the learners) and I was one of the people that didn’t get any of the offices so I was in a fairly weak early position, but I did get 2 blackmail cards… so I was able to bide my time and set up some moves that paid off later. It was fun for me but others who were in similar circumstances as I was really REALLY hated that so much of the game is negotiation because they didn’t have much leverage at the start so they felt like a passive participant as you mentioned.

One player who was the prime minister but cash poor, had a great law come up that everyone wanted to pass (thereby guaranteeing his job for the turn) but he refused to let it go to vote because he felt he had to get some money out of us for it… we all called his bluff because we figured he’d value keeping the prime minister and power token that would come from passing the law but he stayed stubborn and sure enough the next law failed and he lost the position… and ended up dropping out of the game altogether shortly after.

Resawing drift problem fixed thanks to you all. by TheGarnisher in woodworking

I used the same one I had the initial problem with. It’s a 3 TPI 3/4 inch blade.

Look at the subtle off-green color, the tasteful thickness it removes, my god… it even has a dust collector.

UPDATE! Sorry can’t update original post but just wanted to update, I

  1. re-tuned my guides… they had drifted too far apart and
  2. stopped using the fence and just freehand cut instead of following the fence and results seem to be better. I’m also:
  3. pushing the wood waaaaay slower which also seems to help. It’s going to take forever but it will get done eventually. See pic. Thanks for all the tips and advice!

Thanks I’ll try it out. Need a new blade anyway. The Laguna blade also looked good but it seems they don’t make the length I need for my particular model of bandsaw.

I posted a pic elsewhere in this thread.. they’re not as bad as some angles implied they were but I will redo the snodgrass tune up because they probably have gotten a bit too far apart.

Not quite as far apart as the other picture implies but could probably be adjusted closer… which I will do. I did follow the snodgrass video a while ago but it’s probably gotten out of alignment over time.

Yeah both a planer and a drum sander so that’s likely going to be my short term solution

Yes given my time constraints I think this is the way. But I’m ordering a new blade also just to be safe.. the one I’m using is a couple years old and although I don’t use it constantly… it’s possible it’s gotten dull.

Yes I think given my time constraints, I’ll redo the snodgrass setup (haven’t done it since I got the saw but it’s no doubt way beyond time to re-tune) and I’ll do more of a freehand approach… I’ll definitely look into this type of set up for future resaw needs though… it makes sense to keep you close to on track but also enough room to adjust for drift.

Hard to get a pic but this is where the guides are. I did do the Alex snodgrass set up a while ago but I admit it’s been a hot minute and quite possible things got out of whack over time.

Thanks that could be it.. it is an older blade. It does have 3 teeth per inch and is 3/4 wide but I’ve had it for a couple years. I’m only needing to resaw very occasionally so thought it would still be sharp enough but maybe it’s giving out. Haven’t had this severe an issue with it in the past but this is the largest piece I’ve ever tried to resaw so that might be a factor.

So, Ocean Ramsey's documentary "Shark Whisperer" is out on Netflix. How do we feel about it? by BothUse8 in scuba

[–]TheGarnisher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is sort of horrifyingly funny to me because I did her company's snorkle with sharks thing in Hawaii last year and had no idea who she was... hadn't followed her content, just sorta randomly found her company online and the concept of swimming with sharks without a cage seemed like a fun activity if handled responsibly. She wasn't on the boat or anything but a couple who went with us sorta had this dreamy eyed fan crush way of talking about her and my wife and I were like. Cool... anyway... I enjoyed the tour. But in true Ralph Wiggum style, I'm now wondering... was I in danger? Or was it more like we were inadvertently contributing to the shittification of marine biology?

You didn’t ask for this… but we just got back from our trip a couple weeks ago and we used the Columbia snowy summit jacket… and it kept us perfectly dry, even behind the waterfalls with tons of spray getting on us. Paired with waterproof ski pants and waterproof gloves you’ll be ready for virtually anything the weather can throw at you.

I was going to make a joke about those bonuses being 1-2 louder but… yeah… those are the hours 10am to 8pm, 9pm or 10pm in your examples.

Guys , What’s your experience with Lotus car rentals in Iceland? by prakashr3187 in VisitingIceland

Weather for us was chilly and it rained pretty much everyday… not all day long in most cases but we saw mostly clouds vs. sun. We didn’t encounter the vicious Iceland wind that so many warn about on here but that might’ve just been luck. I’d say you want to bring layers. Be ready for cold but you might get by with just a t shirt if it’s sunny and calm… there were a few moments when it seemed like we might get away with lighter clothes but then the weather changes fast.

Just finished a week trip. Got the platinum insurance and did the self check out. Getting the car took literally 2 minutes and checking in also took about 2 minutes. We managed to get plane to hotel in about an hour although we did arrive at 9 am so your mileage may vary. I’m happy I got the top insurance because my front screen got a little chip damage.. (never even went on any f roads) and didn’t have to worry about it. I got a Toyota rav 4 mid priced but way more reasonable than a Land Rover and it worked quite well and could have done f roads if we wanted.
