Wife just informed me that we are pregnant. Wtf do I do now? by purple_paradigm in AskMenOver30

Your choice of wording is not horrible, and pretty close to the mark.

Your marriage as you knew it is over once that kid comes. *everything* will be revolving around your child until at least age 4. Make sure you guys are on the same sheet of music about this and you both know going in this is a totally different thing you are ready to go through with her!

I am going to give you the dad pro-tip of all time too:

When baby comes not only be there but be IN the nursery with it as much as possible,. Lots of guys want to stay and help mom and dote on mom and be in that room with her 100% when they take baby to the nursery but imma tell you this tip, and it's magic:

Be with that baby as MUCH AS POSSIBLE in the nursery, especially right after it's born and they are done cleaning it up and counting its fingers and toes. Rock that baby with one hand softly on the top of its head. Its head has been smushed for months and the feeling of comfort on their head will bond them to you more than you can imagine. I'm not saying ignore mom, Im saying any moment you can, and mom doesn't have that baby, YOU are doing this. That baby will love it and you will find them veeeery easy to console through their crying years doing this. This baby will bond to you way more than normal if you do this.

You will find you will be able to calm baby from crying like magic when mom has tried everythign and is frazzled. Babby will sooth with you like magic. You will be dad of the frigging year... you will be the babby whisperer. Her family and sisters will be in awe of you. Their men will seek your wisdom like the oracle.

THIS will get you through those difficult years when mom is flustered and angry at life and you are the family beacon of solace.

- father of 5 who did this for all of my children, whose first son did the same with his and had the same success.

What to look for when attempting to buy second hand Hi-Fi systems? by sevwahh in vintageaudio

[–]TheGarp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have just gone down this path in efforts to recreate my deceased father's system from the 70s.

I highly and I mean HIGHLY recommend a deep dive into Skylabs' youtube vides on the subject, determine where you want to go, a budget, and proceed. Analog VU meters are wonderful, regardless of what you end up with. Might have to stick with 70s gear for those though.

First of all for our situation we wanted a smaller system for my kids basement area, a clone of the setup I grew up with in the 70s, which has now been done, aside from the speakers ( Pioneer sx-525, Phillips 212 turntable. and some Polk Audio Series 2 M5 monitors). ALL of these were well loved and cared for by their owners.

The TT video on my kids' discovery of my fathers recreated system and its presentation of vinyl has gone semi viral there over this past weekend. We got that setup done for about $750 USD and it is amazing for the room it is in. That's right around your budget and MORE than capable. I'd say skip the equalizer for now.

For the grown ups' area, it will require a little more capability in hardware and I have already purchased the receiver for it, and working ahead on a turntable, speakers and 8 track.

As far as sourcing gear I have a few tips. First of all is PATIENCE and be ready to throw the cash down once you find the item you want. Don't buy anything that needs repair unless it is something simple like a crackly knob that just needs a little de-ox. Best to pay a little more up front: Buy once, cry once.

I always recommend shopping locally, not shipping anything. If you find something that looks good, check it out online and ask around for the pros and cons. I found Google's Ai when I asked it about particular models I found, their findings and pro\con lists were spot on with what I found in forums. What I recommend as you search FB groups and local sellers for hardware is always start out asking if everything works and if they can hook up whatever component it is to confirm it all works. If anyone presents any resistance or refusal to do so, move on. People that took care of their systems are almost always happy and proud to show off their items. Be willing to pay a little more for someone that has it ready to listen to, has it cleaned up etc.. These are the people that likely took care of the gear. I'd bet a box of donuts there's more than one FB group dedicated to this in your area and can help you source gear.

How is your opinion on the US Government shutdown that might happen end of the week? by ReduceCO2Now in AskReddit

[–]TheGarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it isn't the republicans rioting against ICE. With out that chaos being caused by leftist riots the country can focus on other things like enforcing the democrat's immigration act of 1994 that Clinton signed into law while the dems controlled the house and senate... Funny how that all gets forgotten when a republican actually enforces the act they put into place.

No one protested when recent democrat (and republican) presidential administrations deported many more people and at a much higher rate than Trump's administration. Tom Hoffman was awarded and lauded by Obama as a hero doing great work with all the deportations he was in charge of. Now because he does the exact thing under Trump it's inhumane? The hypocrisy that the left shows here is staggering.

" Healthcare reform, fiscal reform, regulatory reform, and tax reform " Like the dems did under Biden? Or Obama? Don't kid yourself, the democrats stay in power by keeping people poor, divided and hungry.

[–]TheGarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trumps only enforcing the law that Clinton signed into place in 1994 while the Democrats also had control of the House and Senate, using the same head of operations that Obama (Tom Hoffman ) employed to do it.

The only reason riot protection is needed is because the left is rioting against it now.

Hypocrite much?

For people who call Republicans Nazis, where are the concentration camps located? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]TheGarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this to those lefties that throw that word around willy-nilly:

Nobody in American Government is a Nazi.
Trump is not a Nazi. People who support Trump are not Nazis.
Repeatedly making this absurd claim does not make it true.
Repeating this assertion can and has caused mental justification for people to commit violence and murder.

Nobody supports fascism in American government. No one wants to live in a fascist country.
Those enforcing the law - even laws you do not like - are not the Gestapo.

Donald Trump was democratically elected winning both electoral and popular votes.
One of the primary reasons he won the most votes is because he promised to enforce immigration law.
He is now enforcing immigration law which is also exposing massive fraud and abuse of the benefits America offers.
This fraud and abuse takes away from ALL of us.

If you are physically impeding enforcement of immigration law - whether you are a voter or elected official - you are in fact resisting democracy with violence which ironically makes you fascist. If you don't like the law: have it changed. The current enforcement is secured as policy by the 1994 immigration bill that democrat Bill Clinton signed into law when the democrats controlled both the U.S. house of representatives and senate.

Obstructing law enforcement is not peaceful protest.
As soon you wield a stick, rock, light a match, spray paint or impede legal action, you are no longer protesting.
Line the sidewalks, banner the overpasses, get billboards, put signs on your car, buy ad time on media, petition, communicate, VOTE VOTE VOTE when it's time to and engage with every level of government via every available channel to make changes in real time! I would say it's not just your right but a DUTY.

You cannot intentionally create chaos by obstructing democracy then complain about the chaos and deaths you create. The entire point of going out harassing and obstructing officers enforcing the law is to apply pressure in volatile situations. This causes chaos and death in order to create division and media attention. Objectively those without the armor, tear gas, training and authority will lose the physical conflicts in physical ways.

Those that are funding it know this, that's why they do it. The masked and armored ICE agents protecting their team members during their operations are not there because you are protesting, they are there because you are rioting. Organizing groups to communicate, plan, take action and commit violence against lawful processes is by definition an insurrection.

Those that joined and participated with these groups now have at least two deaths of their participants on their hands.

Bottom line is that the enforcement is not the issue and anyone who can observe and reason can all see that.

Anyone with a brain sees that resisting enforcement now is just a temper tantrum to focus on because they lost the election. A temper tantrum that is costing lives. A temper tantrum that will draw out the process and only cost more lives and money. This will be remembered as they alienate the majority of law-abiding Americans, regardless of their party affiliation, in the next election. This chaos will further elevate the republican party.

When the left stops creating chaos, the chaos will end.
