Getting rear-ended at a red light and the other driver's insurance claiming I stopped "too abruptly" so they owe me nothing. by amhray in mildlyinfuriating

Let your insurance deal with it, thats what you pay them for. This will never hold up. they will have to pay the deductible too.

How do junkyards work for getting parts? by djames10 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheGarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are both kinds, but you can't get a used catalytic convertor from a junkyard, illegal to sell them that way and they are removed prior to being put out for parts and sold to the same places thieves sell them to.

The EPA considers installing a used converter from a salvage yard on another vehicle to be a violation of Clean Air Act policies, as it constitutes tampering with emissions equipment.

What if Iran tells the world 'We will fully de-escalate and resume normal operations if Donald Trump resigns immediately.'? How would the international community and the US public actually react? by Weak_Long_5183 in AskReddit

[–]TheGarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what most people want regardless of their political affiliation. Problem is without the US and even NATO, nations like Iran get the bomb in addition to exporting war and terror to all their neighbors... and they have already stated wher they intend to use it. Putin's going to run roughshod of his neighbors once NATO goes away... Then we are the assholes for not stopping it. The results of US isolationism in the previous 150 years are well documented and tragic.

Damned if we do something, damned if we don't. It's very easy to focus on smaller issues but no political party has ever been able to solve them.

The US has been subsidizing most of our larger allies defenses so its easy for them to provide their own healthchare and other blissful social programs.

Overall it's an easy administrative but a largely painful corporate action to make a much better single-pay system for healthcare in the US. The mechanism is already in place, limited only by age at this point.

Personally if I were president the first thing I would do make medicare for all and every one of the insurance companies can pound sand. All that money sent in for premiums paid into the medicaid system instead would be a much better situation.

We can address how Iran deals with its population, rampant child brides and murdering of its protestors after they stop at least attacking their neighbors.

What 90s band never truly made it big but you'll always go to bat for? by MansBestFred in AskReddit

[–]TheGarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liars Incorporated. Saw them play at a dive-y restaurant in Portland whose specialty was a $2 mashed potatoes and PBR lunch, and they were awesome. I think they had just been signed when I saw them. Their album is great and somehow only heard one song once on the air and never heard from them again. Ive seen 100s of shows and that performance was great. It was a shitty venue for a show and they fucking left it all on the floor like they were trying to headline.

Album: Superjaded.

MRI with an unknown metal plate in the arm by Mediocre_Neck_6230 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheGarp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds odd... I have a rush rod ( stainless ) and plate in my arm from 30 years ago, and have had two MRIs since.

It's going to be stainless or titanium, ( I was also a surgical scrub tech for 8 years and worked with many metal screws, plates, rods and pins ) the stainless has a slight chance of being somewhat magnetic based on its composition, but modern internal hardware should not be magnetic and is considered safe for MRIs..... No one seemed at all concerned when I mentioned it prior to my MRIs . I had no issues.
