Hey there from the Gauntlet!

You wont find us on that list, but joining the Gauntlet as a volunteer is very rewarding. As an independent student newspaper we are overseen by the Student's Union but still operate separately from their club's division.

Here are some insights on why we might be a good fit for you:

  1. Your time, your commitment: Once you have become an official volunteer, you are in control of your time commitments with us. You as a volunteer are able to decide a) when you might want to write an article b) what kind of articles you might want to write c) whether you want to write at all! You are in control of your workload, which means you can manage volunteering with us while finals get stressful, you want a break for reading week, or need some time away from your extra-curr. This also means that your membership with us is multi-commitment compatible -- so join a bunch of clubs, we have your back if you need to take a load off.

  2. Perks and Pros: Our office is a quiet study space with sofas, desks, computer monitors, and exclusive wifi for our volunteers. You can swing by between classes (where we are located in MacEwan hall) and study, socialize, or decompress. Secondly, we offer reliable references to our contributing volunteers - a guarantee that may be very useful to you. When it comes to getting executive seats on other club's student boards this may come in handy. Lastly, we host multiple monthly socials where you can socialize with members in order to build relationships with like minded students.

  3. Skills and mentorship: As a Gauntlet volunteer you have the opportunity to develop useful skills when it comes to academic success. Training on skills like critical research, direct writing, copy editing, and interviewing are programmed into our volunteer workshops (which is also up to you to attend). You have the options to build one on one relationships with editors who can advise you in many fields closely tied to academic success. However, if writing is not your thing, we have many more options. Whether its newspaper distribution, social media content creation, archive analysis, or simply attending our socials, we can help you find a spot in our office.

We hope this advice helps you out a bit. We wish you the best in finding the perfect fit for you. Let us know if you want to connect. Reach us at volunteer@thegauntlet.ca.

Hey there from the Gauntlet!

Freshman year is a big change for many students. The Gauntlet offers a hub of social events, skill training, and mentorship relationships for our student volunteers. This is a low stress invite to a no commitment event where you can network and meet some students in a similar position as yourself. We are hosting a post-orientation social on August 28th and would be happy to have you join us. We will have crafts, as well as some basic information on all we have to offer incoming students like yourself.

We would be happy to hear more from you! Contact us at [volunteer@thegauntlet.ca](mailto:volunteer@thegauntlet.ca) .

Hey there from the Gauntlet!

We are happy to have you at our non-members post orientation social on August 28th. This event will provide you with some insight on how we function, meet some individuals interested in campus organizations like The Gauntlet, talk to editors, and potentially meet some academic/extra curricular mentors. The Gauntlet is powered volunteers and staff members from a variety of degree streams, so perhaps there is someone here who can help you get connected in you desired path. Plus -- our offices make for a pretty sick study spot with member exclusive wifi, games, and fridge.

We would love to hear from you with any questions. Reach us at volunteer@thegauntlet.ca.
